If I never been to Uchi then I would have rated Tei Tei a 4. The restaurant is really small, so get there early to avoid a crowd. We got there at 6:30 and we didn’t have to wait. We got the waygu on the rock which was good and same with the marinated seabass. However, the cornflake shrimp was not good at all. They give you 6 jumbo shrimp but there’s an overwhelming amount of cornflakes on them. My husband and I couldn’t even finish one. Overall food was okay but I don’t think it was worth the price.

Great menu and absolutely delicious. The sashimi platter was the way to go and allowed us to taste a good selection of fish. Highly recommend

I simply wasn’t a fan. We were paying more for the cultural experience. The experience was great, but I found some of the dishes don’t justify the cost. It’s authentic Japanese cuisine, but the food wasn’t spectacular. We ordered so many dishes, but it wasn’t fulfilling. We ordered the super toro, baby yellowtail carpaccio, grilled baby octopus, rice balls, a whole branzino, and much more. It’s possible we didn’t order the right items, but these were recommended items by the wait staff.

Place– Glamorous and Fabulous, romantic place for couples because of the close seating. Food– Delectable, Tasty and Filling– Authentic and unique menus. Worth going once if you’re local, check ‘em out. Try their Baby Yellowtail Carpaccio, Whole Rainbow Trout and Sake Ice Cream. The flavors are really good and consistent every time. Everything about the menu is fresh, mouthwatering and worth it — from the the presentation of the food to its taste.

It’s rare to see Japanese chefs working in a «Japanese restaurant» in DFW. Tei Tei is not only have that attribute but also distinguish its menu to be Robata focused. It was my friend’s birthday that brought us here. We ordered chef special along with couple of house hot sake and Kirin beers. There are different pricing ranged from $ 75 to $ 125 for the chef special. The waitress did not know what would the chefs bring to the table. That’s kinda fun for us. All of the dishes have their own characters. We barely used the soy sauce as to taste the real favors of the fish and meat. I can’t recall all the details/name of each dish but you can see from the pictures. The course started with couple of sashimi, then crispy small craps where you can eat the whole thing with a pinch of salt. Then we got fresh oysters from Seattle. I believe the climax of this meal are the grilled fish and baked fish that were presented as the whole fish. Those were enough to share with four people. The fish were sent from Japan so I felt like they were that fresh. Well, the chefs kinda tricked me with the fish as I thought that was the peak of the night! No no… the real deal was the dish with raw meat from Japan. There were four slices of raw meat(if I heard it correctly two of those were beef tongue). They came with a cute round hot stone where you grill the meat yourself. This allows you to decide how raw or cook do you want your meat to be. No need to put any sauce. Maybe just a pinch of salt. The course went on and on finally we ended up with six sushi. I think we finished the night with 8 dishes. We were pretty full thanks to the last dish of sushi. A great place for a special occasion if you’re looking for something authentic.

Every time back at Tei Tei just reinforces my love of this outstanding restaurant. It combines the perfect lively atmosphere with excellent service and delicious food. There is a lot to see here… starting with the fresh seafood and vegetable selections on ice perched between the sushi bar seating and the open kitchen. Beautiful giant prawns, the artichokes, live lobsters wiggling slightly, and selections of fresh fish and oysters. Then, the older robata chef with his Nike swoosh headband carefully tending the charcoal and wonderful grilled items — he is so cute! I hope I am doing something I love and doing it well when I am his age. Then, the mastery of the sushi chefs… I couldn’t see their knives in action from my vantage point, but they are so efficient that all our selections came out quickly despite a packed Saturday night house. Every nigiri item I have ordered in the last several visits has been sublime. Perfectly temperatured-fish…not too cold! It is in this just-right temperature range that allows the flavor to come through so well. And the rice is impeccable-somehow a little toothsome… excellent. Their specials were thoughtfully created last night. An octopus salad with wakami(seaweed) and some cucumbers that had been cut about 40 times to where they fanned out as you bit into them. I think the cuts increased the surface area and the overall effect and flavor was wonderful. A special note — I am so intrigued with fried chicken, and especially asian fried chicken. Our order of karaage consisted of piping hot small pieces of dark meat chicken which were juicy, flavorful, and had a light airy batter. What pushed it over the edge was a delicious slaw with thinly shredded cabbage and small pieces of carrots along with cayenne heat. The hot fried chicken contrasted with the cold slaw and its slow burn was wonderful, especially with sips of ice cold beer. One of my favorite fried chicken dishes and completely unexpected. Consistently excellent, Tei Tei is well worth your sushi splurge dollars for a fun and lively night.

My friend and I went here on a Tuesday night after Topgolf. We were seated immediately even though the place seemed pretty busy. The tables are pretty close together, but the ambiance is nice. I opened the menu and instantly realized that I didn’t know what I was reading so I let my friend order everything. He’s a sushi chef so he knew what to order. We ordered shishito peppers(the only thing I knew and wanted), Ankimo, Mackerel sushi, Snapper sushi, Ama Ebi sushi, and a Soft Shell Crab roll. I’ve never been a fan of Mackerel because it’s fishy to me. But this right here… Oh my god. So soft, not fishy, tasted amazing! First time eating Ama Ebi too, interesting. I like it! Not too fond of the Soft Shell Crab roll although I love soft shell crab. Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it either. The Ankimo was surprisingly good! I asked my friend what it was and he told me to try it first. I liked it! I would order again. I recommend this place to my friends.

The quality at Tei Tei is amazing. It never disappoints! Their sushi melts in your mouth… It’s my favorite place in Dallas for uni. The seating area is very limited, so be prepared! They do have a lounge area where you can hang out. I really recommend trying everything you can on the menu… I know that’s not helpful, but that’s how good it is here. You can’t go wrong. I was a bit sad we couldn’t customize some dishes, like having a simple bowl of rice and salmon roe. I miss having good ikuradon(let me know if anyone knows where to get some in Dallas)!

My first experience was not bad, but after this one, I will not be returning. The wait can be long for a Friday night. We hang out at the back bar, drank 2 bottles of sake, spend $ 150. Got seated 1 hour 15 mins later. Came back tonight with 2 friends, we were raving this place of how service and food was good. I was also craving for my grilled octopus leg. We ordered a generous amount of food and appetizer, and today was just not a pleasant experienced. We waited so long for our food, almost 15 minutes per dish, our dinner was 3 hours long from waiting. At the end of our dinner, a waitress put an artichoke dish at our table. We thought that this was a complimentary dish to clear our pallet after eating the raw fish or all the grilled/fried food, silly me. I seriously never ate grilled artichoke before, and will probably never order it. Our waiter approach us 10 – 15 minutes later, and we asked him if this artichoke purpose was to clear our pallet at the end of the night? He asked who gave it to us, and we pointed to the girl. He said she made a mistake, cause we didn’t order this dish. So we told him we were sorry and thought this was something on the house, we got charge $ 16 for it. I can pay a $ 400 dinner, but I get upset paying for someone else mistake. Where’s the customer service at?

An intriguing long evening Tei Tei makes! Slowly the hours of waiting for seats in the dining room will pass in their seductive lounge! There, sipping on their refreshingly light peach-lychee cocktail; grazing on a beautifully grilled fish; and, picking out the smooth yellowtail from the chewy tuna and salmon trio sashimi bowl! When finally seated at the sushi bar, my eyes had quite a workout with watching the chefs orderly preparing and presenting the dishes on their tickets — Impressive! Of the selections I made, I enjoyed the sweet and tender giant prawn and the well seasoned eel on top of a well compact rice ball bowl from their robata grill! A nice presentation of their beef on hot stone yet not much taste due to the tad too thickly sliced meat! And, unfortunately, I couldn’t stand the awfully salty miso soup nor the spicy, watery, and undercooked shiitake mushrooms! Still, a memorable experience it was for this first timer! The ambience of the restaurant is lovely! The service was friendly! Yet, when it comes down to the meal, except for their robata grill dishes, their other prepared plates just didn’t live up to its hype! Cheers!

With a brilliant range of sushi(Uchi), noodles(Tei-An, Ten Ramen) new age fusion(Abacus), and now Yakitori(Tei Tei Robata) I’m honestly starting to think that Dallas may have a spectrum of quality Japanese food that can’t be found in this country outside of New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco(maybe Seattle?). Tei Tei Robata is yet another reason why Dallas has it all when it comes to Japanese. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? A bit in contrast to maybe Uchi or certainly Tei-An, the atmosphere at Tei Tei Robata is nothing short of vibrant. The people(and the food!) are loud, and sensual smells are constantly making their way through the narrow walkways. There are bar stools, proper tables, more intimate corners, and areas capable of seating an entire corporate office, and while the place was jam-packed when I brought my date on a Thursday evening just before 1900, everyone seemed to be having the best of times. I’d soon understand why. Our server was brilliant — honestly answering my questions as to which dishes were her favorite and catering to the two of us even when we were admittedly lost as to what to order. All in all you’ll be taken care of here at Tei Tei Robata rest assured. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Tei Tei Robata is one of those places where you look at the menu and go «Hey! This stuff is way more affordable than I thought! I’m going to order this, and this, and this…» Next thing you know you’ve racked up a $ 865 bill, are drunk of sake, and are realizing that you’ve just bet your boss the remainder of your daughter’s college tuition that you can still do a keg stand at age 46. Okay maybe it’s not that bad, but my date and I very quickly racked up $ 100 worth of food and sake in an alarmingly short period of time. Even so, the dishes themselves are worth every penny, and larger rolls for between $ 10 and $ 15 is more than reasonable. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Where do I even start here? Everything was wonderful. One of the great things about Tei Tei Robata is they have a selection of meat dishes that are both phenomenal and easily cater to someone who might not be a fan of fish. I’m not in that category, but I mixed it up just because and found that the Wagyu Hot Rock was definitely one of the most memorable dishes of the evening. From there the sushi rolls were excellent, the slices of yellowfin flavorful, and the mini sausages an interesting touch also full of flavor. There wasn’t a bad dish here. Dual Stars Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? So here we are. I thoroughly enjoyed a fantastic meal at Tei Tei Robata, but next time someone asks me where the best Japanese food is in Dallas what do I say? For noodles it’s clearly Tei-An, and while it’s a tough decision for sushi/sashimi it’s still Uchi, and honestly I can’t place a finger on exactly why. It just is! Even so, I’ll certainly be back to Tei Tei. Regularly. No Star Granted.

Easily made an online reservation for my sister’s birthday. They confirmed via email the same day and were able to fit 6 of us in four days prior to. They do warn you that due to a «high volume of walk-in’s and other reservations», you have two hours to eat your meal and pay the bill. Okay. It’s fairly easy to get to and complimentary valet is available in the back parking lot(obviously, tip). The interior has notably limited seating, and a bar is tucked away in the back. The bartender and my parents got along swimmingly. Our table was a very interesting experience. It was the only one that could seat six of us and required shoes off! Obviously, we got plenty of stares. The more sake we drank, the more difficult it was for us to get up and use the restroom fitted with a bidet(ladies only). I’m sure it was comical. Our server was efficient and sweet. The food was more fishy than I was comfortable with, and I’m hyper aware of fishiness.(Keep in mind, I’m not a huge sashimi/raw fish/death wish eater.) However, my family members are and they didn’t seem particularly blown away by the sashimi. We ordered: –Oyster sampler(fishy) –Sea bass(came in full-on fish form, but was well-prepared) –Cornflake shrimp(surprisingly deliciously large shrimp and oddly comes coated in whole cornflakes. felt like I was eating a bowl of cereal with it. The dipping sauce packs a punch!) –California and shrimp tempura rolls(how are california rolls fishy?). –My family raved about the tempura snow crab salad, but it was just okay fried crab to me. –Chocolate mousse dessert and green tea ice cream are my recommendations. All in all, not sure if I’d come back. I can get sushi closer to home without murdering my wallet.

This place is expensive but very good. It is also a bit fancier than what I am used to for a Japanese restaurant. I like how they have fresh seafood and fish and grill it at an open grill/kitchen. I noticed there were lots of regulars coming in. I will definitely be back to try all the other good things I saw in the menu.

This was a bit more of an up-scale spot that I had guessed but they were more than welcoming when we came in for dinner. We sat at the bar, which I was told was the only section walk-ins could get as tables were scarce and reserved in advance. From proscuitto wrapped tomatoes, sushi, corn flake shrimp, fried crabs, and miso eggplant this Japanese fusion small plate joint was amazing, and a really fun experience. Half the fun is ordering something exotic sounding and seeing what you get. Sitting at the bar staring face-to-face with the dead fish that is getting snatched up and cooked on the grill in front of you, while live lobster squirm around in the ice is all part of the fun. The serves were happy to indulge our confused and inquisitive faces, and explained the proceedings and offered good suggestions. Not everything we had was delicious, as some of it was odd, but it’s all part of the experience. 2 people and half a dozen plates, was about $ 100. This was fun and it’s worth stopping once to try it.

Tei Tei Robata serves high end Japanese cuisine and sushi dishes. Since they only take reservations between 5 – 630 for parties of 4 or more, dining here can be difficult without a significant wait(also due to small size of restaurant). Atmosphere: Intimate seating(even the option of traditional Japanese seating). Low lit room. Small venue. Hard wood tables. The combination makes for a really upscale/classy dining experience. Food: The food is why you come to Tei Tei. They consistently serve dishes that are well-prepared and of the highest quality(sashimi or toro platter). I mostly order from the robata section of the menu — one of my favorite dishes is the sea bass, although all robata items are exceptional. I find that the sushi roll offerings are pretty standard and unremarkable, and therefore do not order these items. The one downside of the menu is the fact that some of the items are overpriced for what you get. Although some of the fish is extremely fresh, some dishes I have had(flounder) don’t justify the cost. Of note, the cocktails are excellent. The wine list is just ok — I wish they had more options that could pair better with the fish being provided. Service: The service was just standard. I was expecting the waitstaff to be more attentive and helpful in regard to recommendations than they were. Although disappointing, that never has made my meal less enjoyable. Recommended? For those who truly love fresh fish and sushi… and don’t mind«bucking up» for it
