Tom Landry Fitness Center

This is actually a great facility with alot of amenities BUT the problem comes into play when those amenities break down and are not fixed in a timely manner. Right now the hot tubs, which many of us enjoy to soothe muscles after a workout, have been out for close to SIX weeks, and whenever I ask about a time frame to have them open again I’m just told they don’t know. A membership here is too expensive for them to not handle these issues in a rush. Very dissapointed.

I joined the Tom Landry fitness center in September 2015 .I realized I needed a professional trainer for a specific solution to my fitness goals. I began 40 pounds overweight and in general poor physical condition. I visited the chiropractor once a week before meeting the solution. Luckily, I found Chris Brumley. Although I have used trainers in the past, none were are as professional and knowledgeable as Chris. I have lost weight and inches, gained strength and confidence and continue to look forward to my sessions with Chris. This is a huge statement for me as I normally do not like the gym. Chris always has something different planned that contributes to my fitness goals. I like the Tom Landry center and would recommend Chris Brumley to anyone who decides to make a change in their life.

I’ve never been to this gym or pool so I was excited to check it out. I signed up for the adult group swim class held 4 times a week for a month and costs $ 80. It’s embarrassing to admit but I needed to learn how to swim. Anyways the pool is great and they even have a heated pool. The class is held in the regular pool though so it’s cold. There are about 5 – 6 lanes which start at about 4 or 5 feet. They also have a treadmill in the pool which I’ve never seen before. The women’s locker room is seriously amazing. It’s huge and they have everything you need to get ready. From hair spray to blow dryers and even a straightener and curling iron. It’s like a hair salon and they have so many mirrors. What girl doesn’t love mirrors?! There are also small changing rooms next to the lockers which is convenient. I haven’t seen the gym but I might go up there to check it out soon. I hear it’s great.

The gym is dated but has all you need to work out. It is not Equinox, but it is not Gold’s gym either so it falls in the A-​OK category. The staff needs training in customer service. The buckets of food in the Ladies Locker room where staff have their meetings are really not appropriate. The relaxing services were removed like the nice spa and the massage services. I do not know if they have brought back. The trainers are OK and the showers and lockers leave a lot to be desired. I would absolutely take the staff to Equinox and train them in customer service, and make the environment more appealing to younger people, and fix the showers and keep luncheons out of the women’s locker rooms.

I got another week-​long trial membership, this time at Tom Landry Fitness. It’s a little old school, little classic. Here you have doctors getting their workout in between shifts. The décor is a little dated, but they are about to undergo a big renovation.
This place is very intimate. *Echos* intimate. This place is huge. It’s three floors of pools, squash courts, yoga/​Pilates rooms, indoor track, outdoor track, weightlifting machines and racks, and many other things I can’t remember. I was super excited to see that they not only have bumper plates they have an Olympic lifting platform!!! The outside track is very scenic, but it can get soooo hot outside that running can lose it’s appeal. However, they have a nice indoor track, so you always have an option.
Since the weights are on the second floor, I decided to test the staff to see if I could drop the bumper plates from overhead. I tried it with 135, and felt a little weak just dropping such a light weight so I «guided» it down. Then I really dropped the barbell with some heavier weight and although I think some people started laughing at talking about me the staff never told me to stop, so I was pleasantly please that this place won’t kick you out like a planet fitness.
I tried out a yoga class and a Pilates class, and was pleasantly reminded of how out of shape and inflexible I am. The instructors seemed very knowledgable and did a great job of pushing without being too difficult. …I should mention that the classes consisted mostly of older women, so perhaps the instructors scaled accordingly.
I also get the impression that the trainers here have quite the accreditation since it’s associated with a hospital. I used to workout at a similar-​type of gym in the Chicago area and the trainer I worked with there was pretty damned amazing at coming up with a physical therapy routine for me to recover from some significant injuries. The sales rep didn’t actually say any of this, so perhaps the standards are lower here, it’s just the impression that I get.
This is a very large gym, and since it’s associated with a hospital it makes it seem more… professional, and slightly more therapy-​oriented than meathead oriented. They have a gigantic hot tub, and I think the reason for that is its therapeutic value.
I was very impressed with all they had to offer. This place is a great value with all the resources and classes available. It was very next experience to try this gym out. Just a walkthrough and explanation. They did a follow up call but no pressure whatsoever. This is now my frontrunner of where I will go when I’m done with all of this.

I’ve now been a member for three months, and the showers that didn’t work in month one still don’t work, which is almost half. But now the drains get backed up and they flood. So there’s that. But they say the renovations are over, so I guess it’s not going to improve.

Best aquatic facility in Texas hampered by a staff that phones in their jobs. In my ten year membership, I witnessed: 1) gay FEMALE sex in the therapy pool, 2) an instructor giving herself a pedicure (complete with floating dead skin) in the therapy pool, 3) a boom box set up by the children of a staffer in the ladies locker room which resulted in ear popping levels of rap on a Sunday afternoon, 4) a kid with a loaded diaper in the hot pool, 5) yammering school teachers talking so loudly over the instructor in the exercise pool that the instructor finally walked off the job.
I paid twice what the members who work at Baylor and DISD do, and all of the irritating incidents happened with those members. When I told the head of membership about it, she said she didn’t know what to do.
I love the facility. It needs a real manager. It Is a real shame, but I am going to the Y

The fitness center is on the tail end of a so-​called refresh of the mens and womens locker rooms/​showers, and new paint all around. If they were shooting for a bland, sterile, and totally uninspiring look, they have succeeded beyond their wildest dreams.

I love this place. I really do. I had a week pass and was ready to sign up in the very near future. My representative has not returned a single email. She gave me the standard courtesy call to check on how I was liking it.
I’m going to join but I have to find another rep. This one doesn’t deserve the commission.

Some people may not know but Tom Landry also offers a KIDS SWIM TEAM. My 2 kiddos have been going for the past 3 years. The pool is fabulous and the center dedicates 6 to 7 lanes just to the kids during practice times. There are also internal swim meets about 3 times per semester. The coaches really work on technique and doing all 4 strokes correctly. They also concentrate on endurance training which makes for a great work out for the kids. I highly recommend the Swim Kidz program!

Baylor Tom Landry Center is a full fitness facility that offers weight, cardio, indoor track, classes, and multiple pools. It also hosts Baylor’s rehabilitation offices.
Overall Rating — 4 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Facility, Return)
Atmosphere — Located near big Baylor hospital, you’ll find the Tom Landry center. It’s away from downtown, so don’t expect traffic on the relatively quiet streets. It has a clean lobby with a sitting area along with underground parking (great against Texas Heat). 1 Star.
Service — The Tom Landry Fitness folks are professional and helpful. They will provide temporary keys for lockers, and there are always clean towels available. Now, instructor for classes may vary. Some are the boot camp type, others offer more constructive feedback. YMMV here just like any other fitness club. 1 Star.
Facility — The equipment is up to date, the track on the second floor offers a nice view and has a slight incline. And it’s rarely crowded. The competition pool has diving stands and is made for racing. Inside the locker rooms you’ll find nicely appointed wood lockers, fresh towels, combs, brushes, hair dryers, and chairs. The lounge area is great. Comfortable couches and a TV. It feels like a hotel spa until you get to the showers. Then it’s your average facility. There’s also no sports court, so that’s a compromise. 1 ½ Star.
Will I Return? — Yes and No. I’m only using the Baylor rehab facility until my physical training is incomplete. Since I don’t live close enough I won’t return upon my completion. However, if you live in the area, then Tom Landry Center is an excellent choice for your fitness needs. ½ Star.

1 Star — Atmosphere — Is it a cool dive? Perhaps an upscale place? No matter the type, atmosphere plays a big part and I’ll give a star if I like it or thinks it has great charm.
1 Star — Service — You can have a great meal with bad service. But that’s also what can make a five star joint drop to four. It’s important to the dining experience that service is great and on point.
2 Stars — Facility — I’ll award up to two stars for the facility, since this is the main reason we go out. Sometimes the extra star is given for value, but it’s really all about the facility.
1 Star — Will I come back? — If I know for a fact I’ll return, I’ll give this a star. A place has to make an impression for me to return.

I love this gym. Pros: Great outdoor walking trail, great equipment, friendly staff, and great pools. I love to spend a few hours and relieve stress here. Cons: décor is dated and not much eye candy. lol. I can deal with that. Oh, and great instructors, and a variety of classes. Best gym in Dallas.

I love this gym! I’ve been a gym rat for a long long time and this facility is just awesome!
Gym etiquette is great, members are carrying towels and wiping down equipment, gym provides the wipes if needed. Locker room is very clean, showers clean, staff is awesome, equipment is really nice and you are never waiting on equipment. Pool area is clean and great for laps, never crowded. Pricing is perfect ! I have been to a few Gyms in Texas since my arrival 24 hour Fitness Mockingbird Greenville Ave dump! LA fitness, Skillman, not a bad gym, Lifetime Mockingbird nice gym, but no comparison to Landry and price.
All in All this is a great gym!

I will spend my money else where. Maybe someplace that has respect for individuals instead of hatred and contempt.

i joined in sept. 012 so far i would give this fitness center kudos, lots of equipment, real nice park with trails, the fantasy fitness league program could be enhanced a bit overall im a fan

Tom Landry is a great place to work out. I enjoy their variety of group exercise classes, Booty Barre Plus is my favorite and I’m a huge fan of Kevin’s Kettlebell class as well. Best of all, I’m not paying extra for those classes on top of my membership fees. For those who have complained about their pricey $ 90 fee, Baylor Healthcare recently dropped the monthly membership to $ 55 which is only slightly higher than 24 Hour Fitness and well worth it! They have one of the best pools in the metroplex and trump 24’s 3 lane pool with a 9 lane competitive pool and a small, warmer pool. Overall I thoroughly enjoy the facility and all of it’s amenities!

what took me so long to get here? If you work for Dallas ISD or Baylor University Medical Center, consider yourself lucky on getting an AWESOME deal on the best gym EVER. Without the discount, I believe membership is $ 90/​month, which is ludicrous, but it’s quite honestly worth every penny.
1. Always clean. Always. Clean locker rooms, clean showers (stocked with body wash, shampoo, conditioner that’s actually nice smelling and lathers). Machines are well-​maintained, plentiful, and clean.
2. Towels are everywhere. by the cardio and weights room, in the locker room, big towels and small towels.
3. Locker room is carpeted, fresh smelling, lockers are free to use and iced water is always available. Orange juice in the mornings, if I can get my lazy butt up early enough to go. Also has sofas for you to lounge with flat screen TV and magazines.
4. Friendly staff.
5. Variety of classes, big and small. I took my first «barre» class that gave me an awesome workout! Lots of people of all sizes and varieties attending. There are also kettlebell workouts, pilates, yoga and weights. I think the smaller classes are a little extra but the trainers teach you how to use the machines and equipment.
6. Amazing pool. Huge pool with lots of lap lanes for swimming. Big enough where you almost never share a lane with another. Lots of kids and families there on the weekends swimming, but everyone is considerate. Another smaller pool for water aerobics which looks super fun as well. Big hot tub with the pools and saunas in the locker rooms.
7. Indoor track on the 3^rd floor. Cushioned and quiet, great for running solo. There are some weights up there too, so you can do a little cardio/​weights circuit.
I love this gym!

I’m not a gym expert, i’ve only ever joined 2 in my life.
was a member here 2009 – 2010 primarily for yoga and for a place to do cardio when it was dark or rainy. it served its purpose well for me, the yoga instructors and classes were excellent, though sometimes fairly crowded. also had a ton of cardio classes.
tons of machines and a nice outdoor track and indoor track, both padded for running.
monthly fees were expensive compared to anything else i’ve ever seen: $ 90 /​mo for just myself. but my work paid me back for some, and it was worth it for me just based on how much yoga i did there.
i like the steam and sauna they had, huge pool. however, for me the locker rooms and showers were in need of updating even though i think they actually did that not long ago.

This has been my gym for the last 2 years & I can’t get enough of this place. It’s more expensive than your regular old gyms on every corner, but it’s like a relaxing resort for me. The employees are so wonderful and the facility has it all. The best cardio & weight machines, multiple pools & spas, racketball courts, any class you could possibly want, and indoor and outdoor tracks, not to metion all of the fitness equiptment you could want to use.
They have it all here –anything you could ask for in a gym. If you are a local to Downtown, Uptown, East Dallas or anywhere else nearby, I’d strongly suggest checking this place out before you sign your life away to some other dirty gym. This place is the BEST place to work out, realx, or just get away from your busy life for a while…

You’ll be able to see all the amazing classes and equipment from the other reviews, no need to go in to all that other than to say it has most anything you could want.
The thing that I *really* appreciate is the atmosphere of the place. Maybe it’s because it’s not the newest gym around, but when you head in to the locker rooms and see the lounges, all the wooden lockers with safes inside, the steam room, whirlpool and saunas — it’s very relaxing and a great way to «get away» from the hassles of your day.

Thought I would go ahead and update my review of Tom Landry since I wrote it when I was a wee little Unilocaler back in January 2008.
They still have all the great amenities like the huge weight room, olympic size pool and also a smaller training pool (with water aerobics throughout the day), sauna, hot tub, indoor track, outdoor track, punching bag, spin room, many cardio machines (elliptical, treadmill, stairmaster, etc.), and outdoor track.
Classes have been updated and include your usual step, spin, yoga, and Pilates but also include weight classes, Zumba class, kickboxing and unique mixes of classes all in one. These go from early AM all the way to about 7:30pm so you can always find a convenient time to go. Additionally, some of the trainers offer small group personal training classes for $ 20: kettlebells, body blast, bootcamp, even one to teach you how to use the weight room and use weights.
Personal trainers here are great. I’ve had two personal trainers here and my current one (Jeremy) is the bomb dot com! Just looking at him you know you are going to get a great workout — every workout is difficult, every one works the entire body, and burns a lot of calories. He mixes it up and also will focus on the things you want to focus on (I, for one, told him I wanted an ass like J. Lo. I should have known that means waaaaay too many squats!!!) Each personal trainer is priced according to their experience and time with the gym. Catch ‘em when they are new and then your price is generally locked in. Nothing cooler than paying $ 70 per hour for what other people are paying $ 100 per hour!
Other perks include the fact that they always have great magazines to peruse when on the elliptical (where do you think I catch up with my Hollywood gossip trash magazines?); orange juice in the AM and lemony water in the evenings; towels to use for the showers and to wipe off your face when you are sweating like you’ve never been to the gym before; showers stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and lotion; locker room stocked with hairspray, curling irons, hair dryers, cotton balls, etc. They also have friendly front desk staff that remember your name and ask how your workout was. And they even smirk when I say «Painful». This place is top notch and makes gym time more comfortable and fun instead of painful and annoying.
