After a long night of drinking, my boyfriend and another friend decided we need Filipino food in order to refuel. I was thinking Tselogs since it was close by, but it turns out Gateway Kitchen is even cheaper and better worth your money. This place is along the same street as Tselogs, located directly across from the Walgreens. The place is also smaller than Tselogs and parking is all on the streets and metered till 6pm. If not then you can risk parking at Walgreens. I’ve seen people do it. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Once you get inside, you’re going to order at the register first and then go take a seat and the food will be brought to you. CASHONLY. No ATM machine inside. What I liked about the place was that their menu is super simple and to the point. My boyfriend got their longanisa, our friend got the HK style pork chops, and I got the tocino. All of them comes with garlic rice, an egg over easy, and pineapple chunks. Interesting. For 3 plates of food, I think I only paid around $ 13 – 14 whereas if I was at Tselogs, 2 plates already cost me like $ 20. Honestly, I enjoyed what I ate. It sucked, though, because I was still feeling the aftermath of the drinking from the previous night and felt way too nauseous to fully enjoy my meal. And I didn’t bother to take it to go too so I was left with regrets later on in the day. But no worries, I’m already planning on coming back to get more food. I’ll be sober this time, I promise.

Still the same superstar from back in the days. They keep the quality and price in good standing. Too bad they don’t open very early. We had to wait until 8:30am, but the good part is they took my order at 815am and they had it ready as they opened the door.

Many orders to choose from! My favorites would be Hong Kong porkchops and Tocino. They’re very friendly. One tip is that if you’re ordering to-go, call ahead of time

You can never go wrong with Gateway! Tocino, Longanisa, and HK Style Porkchop are my faves. You get a over medium egg when is to-go and pineapples on the side. I usually give the pineapples to my cousin because I don’t really like them. Their garlic rice can sometimes be hard but hey, can’t beat their prices! I just wish you guys were closer and opened later for my late night cravings.

I’ve been going back and forth to this place for awhile now and it always calls my name again and again. It’s great to go if you don’t want the whole«sausage egg mcmuffin» breakfast shabam. You can come for some actual meat, garlic rice, and fried egg. I usually come in for the fried tilapia or the Hong Kong style pork chops. It’s so yummy, you will not regret. Service is fast and friendly, but the place is pretty small, expect to go there by yourself, a loved one, or a few friends. Better yet, take it to go and enjoy it.

Honestly. Gateway kitchen is so consistent with their food, although i can only eat here maybe once a month versus eating here everyday. It just tastes that much more better when you haven’t had a hk style porkchop or tocino in a while. Anyways, you definitely get the bang for your buck here. Building is pretty old, but if you look past cosmetics, the food speaks for itself and if you fall to deep in love with the hong kong style porkchops, you might just start coming every day. Definitely give this place a visit of you are ever in daly city/mission.

Love this place! The staff is very friendly. I go here at least once a week when I’m doing laundry a few doors down or if I need a quick, cheap, delicious meal before I head to work. The quality and quantity of what you get is worth it. I come so often that the lady who runs the register knows my order, so all I have to say is «my usual.» Its cash only, so be prepared. I just wished they were open later so that I can have the option of grabbing dinner there…

Cash only, cheap, quick and good food. What more can you ask for! They serve everything with garlic rice, egg and pineapple. This is my go to place for a breakfast. I like the bangus and porkchop silog.

So if you been following for a long time, I got gateway almost every Friday for a good 6 months… It was my damn birth control cravings! I swear! I stopped coming also when I moved out of this area, so I try to come back as often as I can! But I never regretted gateway. Ever. I still get the Hong Kong pork chop, service is fast, Chinese owned, clean, cheap and quick! The longsilog is good too. I just wish gateway had better hours for those late night cravings!

Looong overdue! I grew up ordering from this place every week for years(ever since I was a little kid) and this is the first time i’ve had gateway since I moved. Sad the prices went up :(but it’s still cheap! I always get the fried chicken, hk style porkchop or beef tapsilog.(And sometimes a small soup.) It was nice seeing the owners still there. The asian guy that cooks in the back is so nice and friendly! Always has a smile on his face and greets every customer. Just like I remember. They have excellent customer service. Btw the beef tapsilog tastes so much better than I remember! The quality is better, it’s juicy, and there’s more flavor on it! Love this place and will always be my go to when i’m in the area :).

There’s not much to say about this no frill Chinese run Filipino breakfast place. They have a short menu list but what they have on the list, they make very good. You come here for the cheap yet good food cause there’s not much to say about the venue. Their dining area also functions as their storage area. LOL! The front is run by a Chinese lady who takes your order, serve your food and also serves as your cashier. A one woman show and she’s very efficient! Their menu is mostly comprise of silogs(garlic fried rice, fried egg and fried viand) which is typical Filipino breakfast. I usually order their quarter leg silog or their pork chop silog. One order is huge, all for less than $ 5! Street parking only. Make sure you have cash cause this place only accept cash. Line could be long specially during early breakfast hours and lunch hours.

My favorite cheap eat. This local hole in the wall is literally the best thing ever. You get a full, fat meal for below $ 4. Cash only and the place is pretty dirty but what do you expect for the price. Besides, I’ve never gotten sick from eating here. The food is so good and so filling, I always get the tocino and finish the whole plate. The people working behind the counter are also all incredibly nice. I only wish they had longer hours into the night, but there really are no complaints whatsoever.

This is one of my favorite places to have Filipino Breakfast. One of the main reasons is it’s inexpensive and the food taste great!!! The store itself has about 7 tables that can accommodate about 15 – 18 people. The cashier lady is usually the one who takes the order from the store and from phone orders and payment is cash only. This place gets crowded during lunch hours when i go. The service is friendly. There are varieties of Filipino Breakfast, but the favorites that most people order are: HK Porkchop, bangus(tail), fried chicken, tapa, and tocino. I love their bacon because it’s fried just right and it’s big. Filipino Breakfast comes with garlic fried rice unless you want regular white rice. It comes along with either slice of pineapple or tomatoes. Definitely one of the Filipino Breakfast place I would go try since it’s inexpensive yet the food is good and filling.

Nice hole in the wall Filipino breakfast restaurant! Found this place by accident. I was in the area looking for another place to get lunch but passed by this place on my way. I found parking right in front and made my way on in. ‘ At first glance you think that this place is empty or possibly a home from the outside. As you approach the entrance you can see the tables set up on the inside and materials in boxes all over the place. That is somewhat of an inconvenience if you want to sit down but I guess that is OK, hmmm. The menu is primarily breakfast food. I liked the menu because there are a lot of good and reasonably priced items. The menu is small though, keep that in mind! My default choice after looking at the menu was the Longganisa. There is no way to mess up this order unless you try really hard!!! Fortunately, I am optimistic and went on ahead and placed my order. The staff is cool. One of the male cooks was super friendly and talkative. That is a huge plus. He completely gets the concept of CUSTOMERSERVICE. Some of the locals were here sitting and waiting for their food. These locals seemed like interesting people, staring blankly at everyone that comes in! Interesting observation, there is a sign here that informs customers that if they want their food TOGO and then decide to sit and eat their food at this restaurant they will then be CHARGED A FEE for eating here! That sounds as crazy and possibly illegal to me but rules are rules, I guess??? Back to the food, the Longganisa was BOMB! It came with pineapple, egg, and garlic rice. The pineapple was sweet as well. The egg was fine and sunny side up which is not the way I like my eggs but I sucked it up and ate it. Good meal. Will have to try the Tilapia next time, whole fish! #baconsilog #tapsilogllookedohsogood

CRAZYYYYYYGOODDEAL. The portions are so large and the food is so cheap, I have no idea how they stay in business! I’m not even sure if this can be considered Filipino food since they throw almost everything into the fryer. I guess that could be an argument for being authentic Filipino? I have no idea. Whatever– it’s bomb and I like it. What’s good?: + HELLA cheap(everything’s around $ 5), HUGE portions, and delicious! + The HK pork chop, fried pork chop, and the talapia were all good but the price makes them amazing. Each dish comes with garlic rice potent enough for you to kill a vampire with a single kiss. + The workers /owners are pretty nice, about average for an Asian establishment. + Way cheaper and has better portions than Tselogs but less variety. What’s not as good. — Small seating area — Street parking can be a mess — Practically everything is thrown into a fryer(I guess that’s also what’s good). — Cash only — Closes early(~around 4pm) Okay, okay. There’s a lot that’s not as good about this place but you probably won’t find a better, more generous serving of pork chop with garlic rice for $ 4 on the peninsula. The price to quality/portion ratio is so freakin crazy that I just can’t see this place being anything less than 5 stars.

Gateway Kitchen will always be our go-to place for cheap and tasty food! We always get their HK Style Pork Chop. This meal is super worth it! The chunks of pork chops are huge. They’re bigger than the size of my hand! We usually get 2 big chunks and 1 average size chunk. For me, I can eat maybe 1.5 pieces, and the rest goes to my bf. Lucky him. The pork chops are dipped in batter and fried up to perfection. The meal comes with garlic rice and chunks of pineapple. A really good combination. The garlic rice is good. Nothing to boast about, however. But it does go well with the pork chop. The pineapple tastes like it came from the can, but for me, can or real, I like pineapple, so it was good to me. When you eat the pork chop, make sure to either dip it in the vinegar or splash some vinegar on top. The vinegar just adds more flavor to it. I don’t think the cooks add any seasonings, except the basic salt and pepper, so might be best to add the vinegar. They used to have vinegar mixed with these peppers, which I really loved, but this time, it was just plain vinegar. Oh well. Still good. This place is small! It has 8 tables, 3 of which can hold up to 4 – 6 people, and the others hold 2. I suggest taking it to-go. Also, their bathroom is hidden in the back AND it’s dirty and broken. The door handle is loose, and it scared me that I would get stuck in there. Overall, I love Gateway! Their food is cheap(pork chop as of 8÷15÷2015 is about $ 5) and tasty! I HIGHLYHIGHLY recommend getting the HK Style Pork Chop! Large portions compared to any other dish. If you decide to eat in, be prepared to wait about 15 – 20 min for a table. I suggest calling it in 20 min before you get there and taking it to-go. Enjoy it in the comforts of your own home. It’ll still be good. Oh! And make sure to grab some vinegar as well! Yummy!

This place was packed at 8:30 am on a Sunday. That’s how you know it’s good. $ 3 for a good size Filipino meal? Hell yeah! I ordered the longanisa and my boyfriend ordered the tocino. Both meats were cooked perfectly and delicious and I don’t even usually like tocino! Plus we got our orders super fast because they’re constantly cooking them to account for the continual stream of customers. The garlic fried rice was also very good, only a tad dry. But it was awesome how they had the fried/roasted garlic pieces on top too. The egg was also great, over easy with the center yolk pouring out only when you pierce it. The pineapple did taste canned but that’s okay, we didn’t really come here for that. You seriously can’t beat the quality versus speed and price ratio here. It’s awesome!

I was looking a place to eat near my school and I saw this place on Unilocal and decide to try it out. Finding parking near this place was not too bad. You can park in street and pay the meter or you can park in the street behind and it will be free.(watch out for street cleaning though) First impression: After parking, my boyfriend and I got to the place and from the outside. It look pretty bad. It look like the 90’s Hong Kong style dinner. Really old. Food: Don’t let the look turn you down from coming here. The food is simply amazing. My boyfriend and I order hk style fried pork chop and chicken. The portion that they give was crazy. The garlic rice was yummy too. We had so much food that we are able to take some home. When my boyfriend pay, all of the food was under 10. Verdict : For the food and the price. This place is an amazing place to go to. Because of the way it look, I would recommend you order to go. I would definitely come back and order food(to go this time) simply for the taste of the food and saving me some money!

This place had a really long line on a Sunday morning around 9am. The food came out really fast and the service was just as fast. It’s a quick meal on a low budget type of place. We ordered the chicken and bansilog & an order of the HK pork chop with a side of spam. Total came out to around 15 $ and the portions were definitely filling. All the meats came out crispy but nothing had a brine so they do lack flavor. Good thing they offer vinegar, soy, and siracha on their tables. I’d come here for a fast and cheap meal, but it’s nothing of the amazing.

I’ve only had Filipino a handful of times before(if you don’t count the more than handful of times I’ve had adobo), so I don’t really have a baseline for what constitutes«good» or authentic Filipino food. That said, I’ve been told from friends much more familiar with it that it’s, well, basically what Gateway serves: heavily seasoned, sweet, salty, greasy, meaty dishes. Doesn’t sound particularly appetizing? Well, it wasn’t bad, but I feel like the high ratings given here are for similar reasons to the ones given at places like HRD in SF: for the price, you’re getting a TON of food. So, more for value and quantity than quality. My friend and I ordered their tocino and longanisa plates, and while they weren’t particularly impressive or offsetting, I can’t say I was a huge fan of how sweet and greasy everything was. And the fact that the food came out lukewarm. Could I see myself coming back again? Maybe. If I did, it’d definitely be as a to-go order, so I could take it home and remake with some more salt, spice, and, most importantly, heat. Because hot food should be eaten hot. ***Accessibility Info*** Venue — This restaurant is definitely on the tinier side, so when things get busy, you’ll find yourself a little cramped for space while ordering. Some of the tables are arranged in such a way that they’re either not accessible, or would inconvenience other people if used, but there are a handful that aren’t problematic. Again though, you’re better off taking your food to go. Bathroom — Didn’t check them out.
