I wish the food was better. At best it is okay. We live a short walk to the Cannons and if your are looking for a view you cannot find a better one. If they only had decent food, it would be perfect. For now, we go over have a drink and maybe a bowl of soup(it is hard to screw up a bowl of soup) and then go elsewhere for dinner. COMEONCANNONS, SERVEBETTERFOOD, EVENIFYOUHAVETOCHARGEMORE. They updated the menu, and the food is better. Our waitress was great. This time, we enjoyed our food and not just the drinks. I think they are realizing Dana Point is changing and people want good food more than a view. With the new restaurants on the scene, it’s good that they updated the menu.

Amazing views and the food was incredible! The staff was attentive but not intrusive. This place made our 25 anniversary a special evening!

5 stars for the view, 4 stars for the service, but only 2 for the food. The lobster bisque tasted like it came from a can, and my husband said his clam chowder wasn’t much better! His Philly Cheesesteak sandwich was almost inedible with soggy bread. But the coconut shrimp I had was pretty good — crunchy with a tasty dipping sauce. Waiter was super attentive and the view to the sea and harbor was amaze balls !!

I have nothing but a wonderful review on canons! We held my daughters dinner reception after her wedding on their patio. Sean was awesome he made sure everything was taken care of. We had the fear of rain and cold weather and he made sure everything went off without a glitch! We were able to come in earlier and decorate the table and prepare they had a planned menu printed out for us to pick items from. It was a perfect picturesque evening. Thank you to Sean and to Greg one of the owners, for making the night magnificent. This is definitely a five star, food was awesome, service was great!

I booked their venue for wedding, but the relationship didn’t work out so now I have a $ 8,400 credit towards Cannons seafood grill to use towards an event. The food is amazing and the venue is gorgeous! I will sale $ 8,400 credit for $ 6,000 but this can be negotiated. Call or text 909−717−0020

We had a dreadful experience on Mother’s Day. The view was lovely, but the service and food were so sub-standard it was shocking. The quality and presentation of the food was exceptionally poor, particularly so given the high price-point of this restaurant. I don’t know if they were understaffed that day or what, but the food took almost an HOUR to arrive after we ordered, and even then, they forgot the soups and my father-in-law’s meal was not brought out until after everyone had already finished(we couldn’t wait any longer because we were so hungry so we ate before he did). It was a dreadful experience. We definitely won’t return.

Classic example of a place with great view and location that keeps them in business, to make up for horrible food and service. Quality of food was almost gross, and while the waiters were very kind, they weren’t on. This place needs new management or ownership who’s more with the times. Contact me for consulting lol.

Lovely venue with an awesome view! Great selection of wine and spirits! Tonight’s special of grilled halibut was sooo very tasty! Lava flour less chocolate decadence was a great treat to end our evening! We will make this a must the next time we are in Dana Point!

Old school and old. I used to like Cannon’s because the view is outstanding. Sometimes you can deal with a little mediocre when the location is stellar but that ship has sailed. On may last visit I found a waiter that didn’t know what gluten free was but that was ok but when he asked the chef if he could prepare anything gluten free he said no. Com on really? You have a restaurant in So Cal and you don’t do gluten free anything? Ok whatever. Got a couple apps and drinks and the whole vibe was wrong. The place is so old and needs a little update, Carpet on the stirs was sticky and gross. If you sell prime rib at a premium then get some carpets cleaned. Wont be going back unless they get with it,

This place has an amazing staff. Everyone is so polite and helpful. Had the food at a family event and must say their buffet was excellent. The steak, sea food pasta and the sides were really well done. The house wine was great. I will be back. Outside on the deck view is wonderful especially at sunset.:)

You expect great tasting food coming from a place that looks like this. Very disappointed. Ordered the prime rib dinner: nice size beef but no flavor. Mashed potatoes lacked something too. First time I had to put salt on a piece of prime rib. Ordered fish: Another goose egg on flavor. 2 for 2 for the night. Well at least the view was great and the dinner rolls were good.

Absolutely always consistent. Consistently bad. Service is terrible, food terrible. Nothing is good here except the view. Typically, that’s all us get.

This was without a doubt the worst dining experience we ever had. We went for Valentine’s Day and even though we had 6:30pm reservations there was a line to check in with no hostess in sight. It turns out they were bussing tables as the restaurant was woefully understaffed(more on that below). After waiting 20 minutes, we were seated outside under a broken heat lamp. We asked to move and were given an inside table which was perfect. We didn’t see our waiter for a while as he was covering both inside and outside tables so it took a while to order. When we did, we started with the Wedge Salad which was fine. However, our entrees were downright awful. My wife had the free range chicken that way overcooked and totally inedible. I had the seafood medley(the house favorite supposedly) and the seafood was lukewarm at best and very fishy. At this point, I asked for a manager and complained that our dinner was awful and our Valentine’s Day was ruined. He mentioned he saw the chicken and agreed it should not have been served. To his credit, he did comp the whole meal but we only really ate half a wedge salad each for dinner. I can’t believe this restaurant is highly rated for special occasions as there was no sense of ambiance for Valentine’s Day with the staff running around, the long waits and of course, inedible food. Hostesses shouldn’t be bussing tables and then placing dirty glasses/dishes on a free table since they didn’t have time to take it back to the kitchen. My waiter shouldn’t be covering the outside tables on one side of the restaurant and also my table on the other side of the restaurant inside. When I asked the manager if he had staffing issues, he claimed he did not and they were just busy. Well sir, you need to better prepare for busy nights and no, not all restaurants look like yours on a busy night. Our Valentine’s Day dinner was ruined and I am so sorry I chose this restaurant. Please do not make the same mistake I did.

BEAUTIFUL view, sub par food. We came in for early dinner. We started with Happy Hour and transitioned into dinner. –Spinach & Artichoke Dip: Every time you tried to dip your chips into the dip, you would just get a gunk of oil from the top. We had to pour out about 2oz of oil to get to the dip. Gross! –Garlic Fries: Loved that you can actually taste the garlic in every bite. –Cioppino: The flavoring of the broth was delicious, but something was extremely off with the seafood. None of it tasted fresh. BLEH. –Filet Mignon: A nice sized portion of meat. Meat quality was just average. The dish would have been better without the béarnaise sauce. Our waitress was super sweet & attentive. I like that they gave us our space and didn’t try to rush us through our meal. Cannons is a great place to bring a date to enjoy the view and grab some drinks– but I would advise to skip out on a having a meal here.

We had dinner here on New Year’s Day. It was amazing. We had the sizzling mushrooms and crab cakes as appetizers, I had the Salmon Dinner and my boyfriend had the macadamia nut crusted sword fish. It was all amazing! The crab cakes were we very good. The only problem I had with those is that they were too small. Lol, the mushrooms were well seasoned and just mouth watering. The sword fish was flaky, sweet and amazing. So much that I wanted to trade plate. My salmon was delicious though. I just wish I would of picked the sword fish as well. Our waitress was friendly and on it. She was great.

Cannon’s is great for a date night or special occasion. It’s also the perfect place to take out-of-town visitors when you want to show off Dana Point. The view is spectacular. If the weather is nice, sit outside. You’ll want to spend all night there. I don’t think the food is particularly amazing, but it’s decent. I have to mention that they have delicious dinner rolls. Ha. It’s the little things. We got the crab cakes and spinach artichoke dip as appetizers. The crab cakes were really good; the spinach artichoke dip was pretty standard(the chips with it were stale, by the way). I got one of the specials for my entrée – the Ono. I swear they accidentally gave me Swordfish instead of Ono, but I didn’t say anything. It came with pretty basic rice pilaf and a pile of nothing-special veggies. My husband got the Prime Rib, which was a huge cut of meat(ick). He ate it all though because he’s a crazy carnivore. We were too full for dessert. They don’t rush you here, which is nice. It has a very upper-class feel, though the prices are pretty reasonable for what you get(about $ 30 per entrée). It’s strange to me that Chart House is right nearby because they have very similar offerings(and great views). We chose here because it’s been a Dana Point fixture for years and years. We’ll be back around Christmas, hoping for a view of the harbor boat parade from the window :)

Took my family here tonight for my husbands 50th birthday. He got food poison! The server was never around. Had to hunt down people just to get a refill on water. My husband is so sick from the Cioppino. Not impressed

The Food was Good, But overpriced for the quality. Overall the view was spectacular. The people on the other had give the walking dead a run for their money. It was like being served by the walking dead. I came here for my fiancees birthday there was a wedding so I figured the reason for the dead service was the fact that the wedding was going on but after I reviewed I other reviews I can see service is definitely where this place lacks. It is nice to pay for service and service is one of those things that makes you feel special. The location is what it is but the effort of service takes heart and passion. There is none of that here. Either these people do not get paid, their dogs are being tortured in a back room, they were possibly short of or perhaps their medical does not pay for Prozac or Zoloft but these people serving made me feel like my presence was an inconvenience.’ It was a bit comical actually the plates being sort of shoved on the table. the waiter sort of sluggishly shuffling from the the table head down. I wanted to ask him if he might have had someone die in his family or something. Overall the attitude seemed to be consistent everywhere. I heard no jovial laughter or even saw any smiles except from the hosts at the front. Honestly it was a good experience but the experience with the waiter left me pretty disjointed. So because of this I may not be back. I am sure there are other places that have nice views and good food somewhere on the beach. I can not say I was terribly disappointed but I was not overly impressed. When you pay this kind of money and this is a special day you would expect more from a place of this caliber. I believe this place has HUGE potential with the view and a little boost in their food quality. If they are making great money now I believe they can even do better by doing some training to their waiters on attitude, posture, kindness, politeness, and hospitality. This would increase this rating to a solid 4 ½ or 5 consistently. I can only see these changes making this place an excellent place to come and have a fine dinner. Otherwise… well perhaps we need to wait till these things are handled to make the buck worth it.

Cannons is the kind of old-fashioned steak and seafood restaurant that my parents like. I was recently here for a group event. Of course, the view is the star of the show, but I was pleased by the excellent service and the surprisingly good food. We shared the creamy, decadent spinach artichoke dip. I got the Caesar salad which was pretty standard. My entrée was the fresh(that’s in the description, and it was fresh) mahi-mahi in a lobster reduction which came with grilled mushrooms, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, and green beans. I chose wisely. If it sounds good to you, you’ll like it. I tried my wife’s selection of pasta primavera, which wasn’t on the menu, and that was quite flavorful, too. Of course, what you’re paying extra for here is the location. I would recommend Cannons for occasions, therefore, such as — Special events, weddings, etc.(they have separate menus for both of these but we ordered off of the regular menu) — Romantic dates — Corporate meals — Entertaining visitors — When you are not paying Their happy hour is probably worth checking out, but all that I can tell you about it is that it is on Monday through Friday from 4:30 to 6:30. They had two or three beers from Valiant, an excellent brewery in Orange.

Sehr netter Service, gutes Essen und ein fantastischer Ausblick über den Hafen(ist besonders abends toll). Die Preise sind gehoben aber angemessen für die Leistung.
