I love this woman. Jeannie trained me how to scuba dive. She plans trips with her students and is so passionate about educating. Today we had an under water emergency. She and her team were able to get a man three times Jeannies size to safety. Paramedics arrived to bystander CPR. I love how most people in the scuba community take the time to learn more. In this case, our team being medically trained saved a mans life. I was under water and when I resurfaced the Catalina paramedics were already on scene. If any one wants to learn how to scuba dive, I highly recommend going through her. :)

Time and time again RCSCUBA Center stands out to me as one of the best PADISCUBA diving instructional companies in the business. My passion for scuba diving is incredibly strong and I would only rely on people I can trust to provide me with the absolute best skills and experiences in order to make me a confident and well trained diver in the field, that is why I go to Jeanne Whelchel. Thanks for always making it interesting, educational, and enjoyable as well!

Jeanne is an exceptional instructor. She puts her heart and soul into making sure her students are well-prepared and properly trained, with a huge emphasis on safety. Given the inherent risks present in scuba diving, Jeanne takes her responsibility as an instructor very seriously to ensure each student receives the attention they need and the most current information. Her teaching style is engaging and thought-provoking, strict at times yet enjoyable and fun. With her years of experience, I respect that she is well-grounded and she recognizes that she doesn’t know what she doesn’t know… she is not arrogant or a know-it-all like some instructors can be, which, to me, is a sign of a true professional. If you are brand new to diving, she will help you set a solid foundation and build confidence in a safe and encouraging environment. And if you’ve been diving for a while, she will hands down help you become a better diver! When it comes to scuba instruction, Jeanne is among the cream of the crop and I feel fortunate for the opportunity to take courses from her.

Scuba diving is one of the most rewarding, freeing, and exciting activities I’ve ever done. Feeling capable and able to seamlessly enter the water and explore the world under the surface is a gift, one that depends greatly on your instructor. Jeanne is tops! When learning how to stay alive and to dive right, it’s not the time to get any old instructor from Sport Chalet. It really matters who is teaching you the survival skills and way of thinking so that when something happens underwater, you do not panic and you know how to keep yourself safe. This is where Jeanne really is a master. I’ve taken my all my padi courses with Jeanne — open water, Advanced Open Water, and Rescue Diver — and I can confidently say that she makes me the confident, safe, smart diver that I am. My friends and I(who took her open water course together) joke that she’s our«immunity» because anytime Jeanne is in the water, we feel 10000 times safer. We know we are in the best hands. Jeanne teaches safety first, both in and out of the water. She knows diving is a sport with risks, and she makes sure each of her students is diving and acting in the manner that will keep everyone safe. Her knowledge of diving, Catalina, and everything in-between is unsurpassed. I swear she has the entirety of Casino Point memorized in her head. Her teaching methods can come off strict, but once you get out into the open water, you see why, and you thank her for making sure no one goes out sub-standard. Jeanne is also first aid, EMT, and DMT certified, and wants to make sure all divers in the water(not just her own) are diving safely and correctly. RC Scuba/Jeanne also run several local and international dive trips through the year. These are often filled with Jeanne’s current and former-students, all of whom are excellent divers — a real testament to Jeanne’s dedication and care for her students. These trips are my favorite. I went to the Galapagos with Jeanne and crew, knowing no one and coming back with the best trip of my life. Overall, I cannot recommend Jeanne enough. She’s caring, sweet, dedicated, talented, safe, and will teach you to be the absolute best diver you can be. Her instruction and leadership by example has taught me a self-sufficiency as a diver that many of my peers have not gained. I trust in what I’ve learned from Jeanne and know that I can handle anything that comes my way. If you want to be a serious, safe, and good diver, she’s the only person I would trust!

First off: Jeanne is simply the best. She makes the whole certification process enjoyable and fun. She’s very encouraging and supportive, and just SO good at teaching. After I finished my PADI open water certification with her, I really felt like I understood all the important things about diving. Safety is incredibly important when diving, and Jeanne is amazing at teaching her students all the safety practices involved in diving, while keeping the mood light! There is no one else I would recommend. Do a certification with her – you wont be disappointed!

I was referred to Jeanne’s classes to get certified for both PADI Open Water Diver and PADI Advanced Open Water Diver back in 2013. I like the way Jeanne teaches, she’s rather easy going when we’re out of water, but she’s very strict once we’re in the water and going through scuba diving stuff. My over all experience through the classes and certification process was great, and I appreciate how she yelled at me while I made my mistakes when I did my first certification. And I’ve dove with Jeanne a few times after my certification while I was on a dive boat with other friends(that also got certified with Jeanne), she cares about us even after the classes are done. there’s a 3-star comment saying that Jeanne is sometimes can be very rude over the little mistakes that students will get. But I hope future diver needs to remember that, SCUBA Diving is not just a recreational sport that you go to a tropical resort and jump into the water and do some sightseeing at 10 feet of water. It’s an extreme sport at all measures, those«little mistakes» are sometimes what gets you killed in the ocean. Without a little yelling while teaching, you will not get a remarkable memory on what you did wrong, and by correcting it those mistakes before you will never get another chance. After all, in my opinion is that Jeanne is coaching for real divers that can take care of themselves in the open water at depth, while taking care of their diving buddies as well. She’s not those instructors that just to get you certified so you can do «recreational dives» in the Bahamas or Hawaii at 10 feet of water.

Jeanne is truly an expert diver. Weather you want to learn the basics or interested in pursuing advance diving, she has the knowledge and resources to get you there. Diving is a SO much fun but still is very serious sport, so Jeanne takes your learning seriously. Jeanne truly wants everyone to learn and enjoy the sport so she doesn’t give up on clients whom have difficult times with aspects of diving, which is fantastic for people who are uncertain if they will do well. What you get with RC Scuba is worth more than anything you will get with large company scuba classes(I know this from my friends personal experiences compared to mine). RC Scuba offers a more personable experience while also being exposed to and learning more about diving culture. I encourage you to do some research on diving and its culture to more prepared on for when you take her class. If you have any questions or concerns, she can give you her personal experiences to go off of. A site I found useful for people interesting in learning more about diving before taking a class.
