This is a review of the takeover business still calling itself A & Js Subs. Those of us wedded to certain restaurants in Danbury will be saddened by this post. A @ Js on Hayes town road has reopened. It took me awhile to get up the courage to visit. I dreaded finding one of my favorite Danbury restaurants changed. Be I hoped. It has changed… completely. The proprietor assured me that I could get the same great cold cut combo with supper sauce which I have been eating for 38 years. No. The grinder rolls with just the right tooth are gone. He told me the super sauce was just Italian dressing. .his is. It is NOT super sauce. I will admit the quality of the cold cuts is much better, the prices are better but it is NOT an A & Js sub The new owner was nice, he tried to build my sandwich… He has a lovely, clean place. The new menu is interesting and varied. I will likely eat here again but it will always make me wistfully sad. He told me he is changing the sign and name. Good idea.

AJs is as local as it gets, family owned and operated by friendly comical bunch this shop should not be missed! All the times I’ve been there the staff have taken their time crafting a masterpiece of a sandwich, not to mention load it with the choice of your ingredients so it doesn’t even close properly(which is a good thing in my eyes). It’s one of the few places left that thinks about the customer first: not only do they cut the large sandwiches in half but they wrap each section in tin foil and a bag to keep it warm and to make sure you covered if you don’t decide to eat the whole large sandwich. They also give you actual napkins(the ones you would have on your kitchen table) not those stupid small ones that never clean anything. The only thing I would assume some folks rate this a 4 not a 5 would be the wait time(about 5 to 10min if no one is there) but, honestly I rather wait the extra time if I know I’m going to get an amazing sandwich!

Awesome place, sandwiches are amazing! Especially with the special sauce. And the guy at the front is easy to look at too ;-)

Great local find right off/on I-84. Great breakfast sandwich from nice friendly people. I bookmarked for another day to make sure I try out their highly rated Subs. It is another super Unilocal place where you can travel the highways of America and taste the local fare.

New owners but you wouldn’t know unless you saw Ann wasn’t there, same food, same friendly service and some ambiance, tv, pictures. Breakfast is our fav there, the big breakfast is a deal for what you get $ 8 for that is amazing with coffee included :)

Love A and J’s turkey sandwiches. They only use boars head turkey and it’s always fresh. Same with the bread. A little crusty, a little chewy just the way I like it. Super sauce is a must on all sandwiches. The cute Irish ladies who own/run the shop are very sweet. Only 4 stars because they are a little expensive, only take cash, and they never use gloves when preparing food although they always wash their hands after handling money.
