Just had another outstanding dining experience at Danbury’s première restaurant! We’ve been customers since 1990 and have never had a an off night at Barbarie’s. This evening, I had their King Cut prime ribs which simply is the best. The meat is cooked on target, cuts like butter, lean and extremely tasty. I must point out, you can judge a «good» dining establishment by the longevity of their staff. While exiting tonight, I took a minute to say hello to the waiter who served me my first order King Cut order of prime ribs way back in 1990!!! Oh, our appetizers and dessert were just as perfect as the main entrée. If you haven’t dined here yet, what are you waiting for?

Wow, just called to ask for a reservation and was told«Tonight? No Way!» I understand it was only two hours from now but no need to be rude. Sad part is it’s not the first time I’ve felt they were rude here, time to cross this one off our list.

Bartenders and wait staff awesome big mike rocks, extremely disappointed with the freedom dip which was a basically a steak-um on a roll, coconut shrimp and claims casino were good only reason to go back would be the staff, shame on the restaurant for claiming the freedom dip was shaved steak … Etc

Waitress charged me for 3 coke refills and my wife 2 iced tea refills. Not cool. It was reflected in her 4 dollar tip. I didn’t have time to complain on site. Also, when someone orders to go, don’t put the ice cream in the same container for obvious reasons. It’s melts all over the thing you ordered! Staff training issues really. Food is good otherwise.

What is the point in making a reservation if the restaurant never honors it? The management here is a hot mess. After initially being told that our table was not ready even with our reservation, we stood at the check-in area for almost half an hour waiting. During that time, no one was manning the front area. Seriously? Disgusted, we left and went to Black Angus Grill, where at least the staff was attentive and welcoming.

We once again had a fantasic dinner with friends, the service and food rarely dissapoint here, and we bring new freinds often for this reason. Everyone is happy. King crab was great, as were the rib eyes and prime rib, and last but not least, the coacktails.

I went there last night for dinner. I was pleasantly surprised as it was my first time here. I had the lobster bisque and my friends had pasta and chicken Franchese. The waiter was extremely nice the food was very yummy and the bread was good and the wine was good! But the icing on the cake was the most scrumptious Tiramisu that they had! I Will definitely return!!!

Service sucks so bad I didn’t even get to eat. The management was so shoddy I didn’t even get seated … I’m kinda glad because of all the bad reviews. Never going back.

I come to Jim Barbaries with my family at least once a month. I have never had a bad meal or a bad time. The waiter Pedro is so sweet and attentive, and the food is always great. My go-to meals are usually the stuffed tilapia or the chicken Italiano. All around great place!

Took my Dad for Father’s Day(6÷21÷15) for a 4pm reservation in the bar area. We were told as soon as we sat that they only had 1.25 lb lobsters(they usually have up to 4 lbs). HUGE bummer. This is what you go to this place for. The food we did order was great– 16oz filet mignon was and the twin stuffed tails were excellent. Great French onion soup and clam chowder. Service was slow and they served us mixed drinks in pint glasses(what the hell is that?).

For those of you who know, this was once one of the best restaurants for prime rib anywhere. After reading all the negative reviews, I decided to go back and find out for myself what was happening. In short, my wife and I went last week, had poor service, bad food, and worse attitude. We arrived at 6 pm and I ordered rare prime rib. What I received was well done, microwave reheated horsemeat! The owner tried to tell me it was cooked medium and tried to make me feel wrong for not wanting to eat it. Sadly, she never even said she was sorry. If you’re in doubt that these other negative reviews of Jim Barbaries are correct, believe me, THEYARE! They honestly deserve a 0 rating and that upsets me because I was always a big fan. We will never go back.

Have had many great lobster meals at JB’s over the years, but tonight I had the absolute worst 1 ¼ lb baked stuffed lobster ever. It was likely much overcooked, and my fork went through the meat like a knife through jello. The staff offered to replace it, but I was done. I should have just sent it back at the start. Hopefully, just an off night for them, but I really needed to document it.

I came to Jim Barbarie’s with my boyfriend, my friend, my friend’s boyfriend, and my friend’s parents for her birthday. We were seated right away and(I guess it was the owner?) came around periodically to check on us and he was very polite. Our waiter was equally polite(and patient) throughout our meal. We ordered appetizers, 3 orders of calamari, 2 french onion soups, and an order of clams casino. We also ordered our meals at the same time since everyone had decided. I went with the Wild Grilled Atlantic Salmon. The food was delicious and everyone enjoyed their meal, but the wait time was absolutely brutal. We waited at least a half an hour just for the appetizers. The salads came at least 15 – 20 minutes later, and the meal arrived over a half an hour after the salads. Besides the wait time, the food was great. I also enjoyed the atmosphere, it was not too loud and was very pleasant. I will definitely be coming back to Jim Barbarie’s soon(hopefully with shorter wait times).

Service is absolutely terrible. Went for 45 mins at 4:15 for a wine and app. Ordered at 4:17 just before shift change. Bartenders were to busy counting tips and discussing and focussing on theirselves. One woman waited 10 minutes to cash out because she was being ignored while switch was happening. My app, after 28 minutes never came out, she went to check on progress and after 8 minutes never came back. I cancelled and left. BTW: app was carrots and celery. Also, I was 1 of 5 at bar. Not that busy! Another sad state of what the problem is in this state, country and the work ethic of people in the service industry.

I took my family out for my father’s birthday. Reading all the reviews and seeing the prices before hand, I figured the quality of food will be good. I was wrong. For myself, I ordered a filet mignon for $ 44. For that price, you would think it would melt in your mouth(not the case). I asked for medium-rare… When I got it, it was medium on the inside and well-done on the outside. But the worst part is that it had absolutely no taste and felt like chewing rubber. I can’t speak in detail for what my family ordered, but they were not impressed with their selections either. Overall, I spent almost $ 250 for a dinner of 4 and this is the last time we will go there.

Wife and I went for dinner on Valentine’s Day. The only think satisfactory was the cocktails. But… no bitters in my Manhattan… had to ask for it… hello…best to skip the food and tell the bartender how to make your drink. The food was run of the mill dinners… nothing special. I had salmon with parmesan risotto… very bland… on both accounts… my wife had the«Soup of the Peche… very bland pasta… not really a soup per say, somewhat dry… So if your close to JB’s on a stormy night… ok…else this restaurant cannot compete with any restaurant on Millplain Road in Danbury.

The last time I was at Jim Barbaries I ordered the stuffed shrimp, it was raw. I sent it back and got back the same plate only part was burned and part still raw. Ordered a burger, well done and got it medium. Sent it back and same thing. Someone just put it under the broiler. Ordered drinks, wateted down and tastless. Atmosphere is for the blue haired group. Did some renevations, didn’t help ‘cept a wheelchair ramp. New munue is needed. Thirty years, this place needs updating. Must be a Barbaries issue. Sister restaurant sucks too.

Revisited JBs tonight with longtime Danbury friends. Things have gone from bad to worse. I ordered my old standby, the stuffed lobster. It was dry and the stuffing was NOT good at all. The stuffing was gummy and i was hard pressed to find any seafood in it. One of the things i used to love was the buttery cracker stuffing but this was like breading. The potato was very small and cool to the touch. One of the other people ordered a New York strip steak, medium rare. It was over cooked and no juices were present. The menu reflected a overall price increase and our dinner topped out at over $ 140.00 for 4 people who had a calamari appetizer, a beer, soda, 2, $ 7.00 glasses of wine and 2 stuffed lobsters, a strip steak and Chicken dish. Too much for mediocre food. I think these 4 longtime patrons are done with JBs. Too bad as this was once a go to spot for locals.
