Best breakfast in the area. Food was amazing and the service was second to none. I will be back again and again.

If I could give a review 0 stars it would it be for this place, what a disappointment. When I saw the high number of reviews I figured«oh hey it must be popular, let’s give this a try!» Whether it was the slow service(which most of the waiting staff was standing around talking amongst one another and never bothered to ask how the food was) the horrible quality of food, or the fact that most of our meal was burnt. I will not darken these doors with my family again.

One of my favorite«joints» as my grandmother, her Royal highness would call it. It’s both 1950 and 2016 in here. Everything is delicious, comforting, and even though the bakery has changed, it is still top-notch. When you need to be comforted, this is the place to go. And if you don’t drown yourself in dessert there, go next-door to Jaxsons for the best ice cream in the world.

There were flies flying around as we ate our lunch. We saw flies in the bakery counter when we checked out. Gross. I ordered the blackened chicken sandwich and my friend had the Italian sub. He said it was good. The service was pretty mediocre.

If their customer service is any indication of the service they provide for catered events, STEERCLEAR! I called Grampa’s yesterday around noon to speak with someone about catering for my engagement party, bridal shower, and my wedding. I was told no one was available to talk to and I could leave a message for the manager. So, I did. I was told they would call me back as soon as possible. I waited for a phone call until 1pm today and nothing, so I went ahead and called again. I was put on hold for about 10 minutes, I hung up and called back. This time the woman who answered didn’t put me on hold but instead I heard the following… «Is Tommy in the back?» Preceeded by the woman screaming at the top of her lungs… «TOMMY! THERE’S A LADYONTHEPHONEABOUTCATERING! CANYOUTALKTOHER?!» Apparently Tommy told her no because she was clearly shocked and annoyed and said… «NO?!» I then heard a man mumble something and a few seconds later she said… «Hang on, he’s gonna talk to you.» I’m put on a hold and a few seconds later, this happens: Man: «Tommy.» Me: «Hi Tommy, I was calling to speak with someone about catering.» Man: «Waddu need?»(very rude, hurried, and annoyed tone) Me: «Nevermind. I’m going to go with another company. Thank you.» Click. I would NEVER give thousands of mine and my fiancé’s hard earned money to that jerk. He was THE rudest and most unprofessional person I have experienced so far in planning my wedding. Nothing spreads faster than a bad review and trust me, I will make sure everyone on my Facebook(over 500 locals) and everyone who looks up «Grampa’s» on every site like Unilocal
and everyone I speak to on a daily basis knows how uncomfortable I felt dealing with Grampa’s and, more specifically, Tommy.

The first two times we went were great! Service was a little slow but they are always packed so that’s to be expected. The last time however was horrible! We were sat in the very back corner next to some bar with a loud creaky swinging door. It smelt like stagnant water as well. In general the whole place could benefit from a good cleaning! So our salads come out and I grab my glass bowl to toss and low and behold the bowl is broken slit my finger open. I asked for a bandaid the waitress was panicking the manager comes over with a bandaid and apologizes then brings me a smaller salad. We didn’t see the manager again after that. The waitress keeps bringing free pastries after we said numerous times please stop these are going to waste! The food was ok but my experience was ruined by the smell, noise, and of course my finger. I was a little disappointed that I even had a bill at the end of that meal being as though we boxes it all up and left after the finger incident. They covered my meal, but we shouldn’t have paid anything. I was injured at your restaurant due to someone not paying attention. I don’t know if we will return but we will definitely wait a while before we do.

Fairly disappointing. It didn’t have great reviews but was referred by a friend and has been on diners, drive ins and dives so we decided to try it out. The food was bland. The«special» eggs Benedict was cold and was ordered with regular bacon but was served with Canadian bacon. The French onion soup tasted like a salt lick. The«special» open faced turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy sounded much better than it was. The gravy tasted canned, there was little to no flavor at all and the«homemade» bread looked like your typical soft white bread that was on the sale rack at publix. Nowhere near bakery quality. The prices were shockingly high for breakfast food and bland taste. Needless to say we won’t be going back and don’t recommend anyone else to.

I’ve been to Grampa’s twice now, two years apart. It’s got a certain vintage charm to it, that you can’t help but appreciate. Sure, the servers are a bit on the elderly side, but being in Florida, I don’t think that’s something that should faze people. The menu is vast, the coffee is decent, the pancakes are awesome and for whatever evil reason, there’s unlimited pastries to go with your meal. I’ve never had any complaints about coming here. Eggs benedict with lox was on the money on the most recent visit. Would love to come back on my next trip down.

Incredible food and service. The pastries are one of a kind! If you’re in the area definitely check it out. I came here with my boyfriend due to our fascination with diners, drive ins and dives and we were not disappointed. He ordered the eggs Benedict and I had the three egg omelette with grilled onions, sauteed peppers and swiss cheese. We will definitely return!

Busy in the morning when we went and there was a wait but moved quickly. Free Danish in the morning. The staff was fun and energetic as well as attentive to our needs. The best part was the full bar and after breakfast and coffee we had the biggest mimosas I’d ever seen and they had a kick to them too! I think our waitress had a kick with us and maybe that was why but I would go back in a heartbeat! It was well worth it and the bagels in the bakery section looked like ones from NY! Do yourself a favor and if you are in this area… GO!!! By the way… the food was awesome!

Found this gem of a place after visiting two ihops this morning with no parking and extensive waits. The line was out the door but this place is super efficient and we were sat in 15 minutes. The crab cakes Benedict with grits was delicious! Very satisfying. Our coffee cups never saw the bottom and the staff was super sweet. Highly recommended!

Super poor customer services. My husband and I went for dinner, we had to wait for at least 30 mins for someone to come over to ask for a drink, while there was only 1 or 2 tablets of customers in the restaurant only. Also, the food was terrible, I felt like eating left over frozen food from their customers last night. NEVERGOBACKAGAIN!

Stopped in for lunch before we realized this was the place we saw on the DD&D show some time ago. Ordered the turkey club and the large house salad, planning for the two of us to share both dishes. The turkey club was well prepared, tender generously portioned slices of turkey with bacon and the rest of the fixings. The salad was huge, more than enough for us. Good choice! Next time I’m definitely ordering the lamb shank!

I sat at the counter, and a husband and wife set next to me. The husband said that he saw this restaurant on DDD and took someone to the airport, so they stopped in, I took someone to the airport also and decided to give it a try too. The gravy was way to greasy, the chicken fried steak was small, thin, and overcooked, the hashbrowns were served with a ton of grease under them, the biscuit was amazing. A husband-and-wife that sat right next to me ordered one blueberry and one regular pancake, she said she did not like them. The waitress was great! I would not go back!

2÷6÷16 — What a great place! This is a seat yourself place, very homey and southern. Iris was our waitress and she was the sweetest. The specials were 2 kinds of eggs benedict and the Country Fried Steak. My friend has never had this dish before and decided to try it. As soon as it arrived, I could tell it was not his cup of tea. That does not mean that it wasn’t good. It was definitely a hefty portion, it came out hot and as it said on the menu. I, on the other hand, had the French Toast. Two big, thick pieces of toast with powdered sugar. No fruit. I also ordered the one egg(any way) and bacon with hash browns, I opted for the tomatoes instead. I asked for my eggs over easy. I LOVE me a runny egg but it was a bit too uncooked for me. The bacon was crispy and dry(not greasy) which I like. I read on other reviews that you get free pastries when you eat here at the beginning of the meal and I did see some tables with pastries but we did not get any. I don’t know if we were supposed to ask for them. We did not order any pastries on this visit. It was hard too since they have cases and cases in the front. I almost forgot this was an old fashioned diner where you pay at the front to a cashier, and almost«Dine & Dashed». OOps! The place was packed, great service overall by the staff and by Miss Iris.

Grampas is an institution. I’ve been here multiple times, breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is amazing, free danishes and 5 star pancakes. Once upon a time, almost a year ago, we had a bad experience at Grampa’s with a prime rib entrée that tasted like an army boot.(The waitress later mentioned that they had gotten a lot of complaints on the prime rib that day — so I wonder why they were continuing to serve it?) Well, we decided to give it another chance. The experience was like something out of a hidden camera tv show — think Candid Camera or Punked. Asked the waitress if they served sweet potato fries(they do) — but her response was that their nearest competitor serves the best ones in town! Not only that, the competitor also serves a huge jumbo hot dog, big enough for two to share.(Grampa’s has something similar on the menu.) So we ordered, 1 order of crab cakes & fries, 1 order of roast beef sandwich wrap & sweet potato fries. But they got the order wrong, and instead served crab cakes + sweet potato fries & roast beef wrap with no fries whatsoever. OK, not that big a deal, they took the orders back and corrected them. Hopefully they didn’t just transfer the fries, since they had been in contact with those crab cakes. Who knows. Anyways … My spouse bit into his sandwich wrap, and on about the 2nd bite discovered a hunk of glass! In the sandwich wrap! Some errors can be forgiven. I can even make room for marginal quality on rare occasion, so long as the service and quality are good the overwhelming majority of the time. But a piece of broken glass in the food? Unforgivable.

I drowned it with maple syrup and peeled the rest of the meat and ate it like a chicken strip dipping it into BBQ sauce. Owner was rude. Grandpa’s is located along Dania Beach and has been around since 1957. A staple of the community without question. Back in 2008 Grandpa’s was featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. Today I went for breakfast and I must say it is a wonderful place. I had a three egg omelette(Spinach and Mushrooms), with hash browns. I absolutely loved every bit. Food is amazing and the customer service is outstanding. Aside from dining there, they have a full bakery and catering service. I can truly see why this place is popular and has been around for 58 years. I can’t wait to come back

This place is not bad. I came here on Thanksgiving morning for the first time. Their plating wasn’t too great. Everything was quite mediocre, although the service was good and the complimentary mini danishes were definitely a nice touch. The orange juice was delectable and my eggs were cooked right. Nothing really stood out about this place for me. I did see that they had a great amount of pastries behind the counter. I may need to try that next time. Parking was good.

So doing some business in town for the week, and decided to try this Diners Drive-Ins and Dives location for lunch before I hit the airport. Let’s split the review into 3 parts: PART I — Service Ok, if you’ve read the other reviews you know this is a real local joint. Cheers should come to mind… And they don’t disappoint! Friendly service even when asked for the bazillionth time«What did Guy eat?» PARTII — Food I took the waitress recommendation for blueberry pancakes. Who doesn’t want to get their pancake-fix on? Get the short-stack(2 is plenty) and order one blue and one buttermilk. Butter and syrup are on the table, so dig in! I also got some type of cheese/fruit Danish. Took two bights and said forget it to myself. PARTIII — Restaurant Ok, this part can’t be overstated… It’s more in the Dive-side of the scale than a Diner and definitely not a Drive-In. In a nutshell… It’s a dump! It’s the kind of place that your shoes will stick to the floor when you immediately walk in, and still stick for the rest of the day(I’m at the airport now… Yep, still sticking!) The table was also dirty(I hope the stain comes out of my shirt in the wash!) I don’t even want to know what the kitchen looks like… A DUMP! So what’s the 3-star rating for? Here’s how I figured it: Service — 5 Food — 3 Restaurant — 1 Anyway, if you’re in the area give it a shot… If you miss it, you won’t be missing anything!

If you like your grandma’s home cooking, then you’ll like this place! The food is good and portions are big enough for two. We got the roasted turkey with stuffing, and the lasagna. Had we known the plates were so big, we would have just ordered one meal lol. The staff was super nice and even gave our 8-month-old son a free cupcake. The only down side, however this is not food-related, is that this place is a little old and they don’t have a baby changing table in the restrooms. :(

Heard this place was the local’s hot spot. Service is GREAT — our waitress was from Jersey and that gave it a true«diner» feel. They bring out a plate of lovely little pastries for starters to hold you over while you wait for your food, which didn’t take long. Ordered Biscuits & Gravy — which I was not a fan of. Gravy was off, just had an odd taste. The Corn Beef Hash however was delicious as were the flap jacks. Neither of these items would I order normally but I’m glad somebody at the table did! The flap jacks had a buttery fluffy texture that melted in your mouth. And the hash was perfectly seasoned. When you take the bill to the counter to pay you’re surrounded by pastries galore. All are larger than normal portions and looked amazing! Give this place a try if you’re looking for an average diner without any frills.

As a bakery and restaurant owner, I am sorry and saddened to see such a wonderful establishment fail to meet even some minimal standards. 1) The bakery displays are in a terrible mess, the pastry items are displayed with such lack of care, it makes everything look un-edible. 2) The presentation of each item is done with such minimal lack-luster, it doesn’t even matter the cost or the taste or the heritage of this establishment. It just shows they don’t care. 3) The restaurant smells old, it should smell like a bakery, like butter on the grill or sugar caramelizing or bread rising… nope smells old and dirty. The pastry items… 1) Despite the above, i ordered a cannoli to go. Bleh, no taste, not sweet, not rich, not anything. The chocolate chips they use are bland. The filling has too much shortening in it. The shell was crisp, but had no flavor. 2) Despite the above and the above, i also ordered a carrot cake. It appears to have actual carrot cake, actual walnuts and was light and just slightly sweet. But the frosting and layered filling was gross, too much shortening and no body of taste. The staff. 1) Quick and attentive, friendly happy smiling faces… So why are they torturing the displays? 2) Clearly enough staff behind the counter, got to me quick, boxed everything up nicely, tape, ticket, go… perfectly executed for what might some day be a very busy place, but I doubt this place gets busy anymore. The quality of product sucks. The displays. Again, as an owner of a pastry shop, desserts and pastry are pure indulgence and impulsive purchases. The use of a jelly roll tray to simply heap cookies onto it does not count as merchandising food. Slamming a ton of items into a tray in some disorganized manner is just wrong. Not sure what the draw is to this place, but I hope they can get their act together.

Free pastries when you sit down, guys. If that doesn’t get you to want to come here then I’ll continue writing… Grampa’s is a great little(it’s actually pretty big) spot. I love a diner so I knew I’d be a fan, but even I was kind of blown away at how good this place way. You know how most diners have that diner attitude or, «charm»? Well this place doesn’t. Everyone is so friendly. I drink a lot when I eat and my cup was full the entire visit. At one point, the waitress actually brought me two glasses of iced tea at once and of course I drank them both. You can’t go there and not get the rye toast. It’s pretty amazing. There is plenty of seating for large or small groups. Even on a busy weekend your food will arrive pretty quickly. They do warn that things may come out not all at once, but that’s no biggie to me. Parking can be an issue because the lot is small so you have to find some street parking, but even taking an extra five or ten to park it’s still worth going here. I’m still full from this place and I went weeks ago! No matter what you go with on the menu you’ll be pleased and like I said, FREEPASTRIES!

Guy Fieri may be a jolly and pleasantly plump restaurateur, but he sure made a BIG mistake in choosing to go to Grampa’s Bakery & Restaurant and feature it on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. A friend of mine boasted about how their free breakfast danishes were amazing, so we went on a Sunday at noon to check it out. When we arrived, there was a line to be seated. The line area was narrow and wrapped around the cash register and bakery… it reminded me of standing in line at Disney World. After waiting in line 25 minutes we were seated. Our waitress — who was an 85 year-old granny — came to our table to ask one person for their drink order. She literally took one persons drink order and walked away. She didn’t even acknowledge there was anyone else sitting at the table. So I thought to myself” okay, the poor woman is old so she probably needs glasses to see.” She comes back almost 10 minutes later to take the rest of our drink orders… so I thought wrong because she can SEE –O-O-. My friend asked her if she could bring the breakfast danishes and she told us they were being made and that the danishes would take 20 minutes and then she left. For being an old lady, she was pretty fast… she always managed to disappear when we looked down at our menus for a split second to order. About 15 minutes passes and we see tables arrive after us receive their breakfast danishes before us. Finally the Granny server brought us our danishes and took our orders. The danishes were delicious, so I then thought to myself, «despite the service, the food SHOULD be delicious too!» Boy was I wrong… My breakfast sandwich(bacon, egg and bread) came out and they put sausage instead of bacon… so I asked the food runner to bring me bacon, which he did in a jiff! My husband ordered pancakes and they were completely RAW!!! With the first cut down the middle, runny pancake mix dripped out and around his plate. Our Granny server was nowhere to be found… she seriously disappeared so my husband had to ask another server to send back his pancakes. Three of us had already finished eating when my husband’s pancakes arrived. Luckily this time his pancakes were cooked just right . The Granny server brought our check and had mistakenly charged an extra coffee on our bill. We went to the cashier to pay(you pay on the way out, not your waiter), and told the Granny cashier to remove the coffee which she did. However, when the other couple we went with tipped $ 1.50 on $ 25 because of the horrible service, the Granny cashier had the nerve to question them why they were leaving such a small tip amount… she seriously said, «You are going to leave $ 1.50 on a $ 25 bill? That’s not right.» We explained to her about the terrible service, mixed up orders, raw pancakes(which we were still charged for), spilled coffee(yes, our Granny cashier spilled coffee on us and our table every time she served a refill) and the long wait… the Granny server looked at us and said, «Well you should at least leave the minimum 15%.» At that point, we just about had it with Grampa’s. If Grampa’s wants to stay in business he should fire his granny friends and hire younger, smarter and attentive servers and cooks. I seriously don’t know how Guy Fieri chose to feature this place on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives when it has a 2.5 out of 5 rating on the Food Network website. Oh and parking is awful! There are only a handful of spots in front of the restaurant, so be prepared to park your car a block down the street in front of some ghetto apartment buildings. Grampa’s = TERRIBLE service and blah food(when it comes out cooked). I would rather go to Denny’s and Ihop than pay a visit to Grampa’s again.

Really cute diner. 4 ½ stars. GraMpa’s has a competitor by the name GraNDpa’s so beware when searching on Unilocal. I came here twice since seeing the DDD(Diners, Drive Ins and Dives) with Guy Fieri and knowing I had to try the complimentary cinnamon buns :) The first time was Mother’s Day, and it was busy — The earlier you come to Grampa’s the less chance there is of a wait in line, plenty of empty seats. The seating consists of booths along the sides, and many tables close by N.Y.style Walking in, pastry cases filled with all kinds of desserts, counter seating, cash registers with Guy Fieri books beside it, and framed posters on the wall. The waitresses are very friendly. They start you off with hot coffee and complimentary Danishes. It’s «finger food» so no sharing plates, I used the napkin. — I just found out the cinnamon pastries are complimentary ONLY on Sundays, and can be ordered any day of the week, so we paid for it today. First time I ordered the Reuben Sandwich. It was delish! Toasted marble rye with butter, pastrami, sour kraut, cheese all melted together in perfect harmony. Really a yummy sandwich, and is worth the higher price than at a sub shop. This time around I ordered breakfast like everyone else at the table. I got the Two, two, two breakfast, which I read in Unilocal reviews, yet I didn’t see on the menu. It’s two eggs how you like, bacon or sausage, and two giant fluffy tasty pancakes, with light crust, so good. Only thing missing is an option for real maple syrup, instead — it’s choice of Log Cabin. My eggs were sunny side up and they had a crispness to the bottom of the eggs, I asked for crispy bacon(there were 3 pieces), and like I said the awesome pancakes. My husband ordered two eggs over easy, crispy bacon and hash browns. — note if you like crispy hash browns, ask for it, otherwise they come out white shredded potatoes. Other family members ordered omelettes, they come with 2 large pieces of toast, most had multigrain, and has butter on the side. — Lots of leftover bread by the end of breakfast Leftover bacon too. My cousin ordered a side of bacon, and she got a tower of bacon, passed the bacon around the table, and still was leftover. Nice American breakfast in hearty portions, come hungry, and with an appetite. The bill for 8 people came to 117 $ before tip, so expect to pay just over 15 $ /person which is very well priced for the food, bottomless coffee, and warm waitresses. I’ll be back again
