We spent a large portion of our wedding weekend at The Two Georges Inn; Connie and Jake were wonderful hosts, so welcoming, accommodating and hospitable. Whenever we have out of town guests we try incorporate the Inn during their visit.

In my search for a place to stay in Danville, VA for the Grand Am race at nearby Virginia International Raceway, I came across The II Georges Inn. Normally I would’ve stayed at a chain hotel because, to be honest, I’d never thought anything like The II Georges Inn existed in Danville. Also, since I’d planned my trip to the race rather late, there were no hotel rooms left in the area. Anyway, the website describes the Inn as a labor of love for the proprietors Jake & Connie and it shows. It is quintessential quaint & charming. The«June» suite is reasonably priced and is very, very spacious. The bed is feather topped and luxuriously comfortable. And the pillows(I’m a picky one when it comes to pillows) are so comfortable that I considered swiping one for home(not to worry, all pillows are accounted for :-)). The Inn used to serve dinner but doesn’t anymore. I wished it did because otherwise the dinner choices in Danville are limited to chains like Applebees, Red Lobster, Outback, etc. But if the breakfast is any indication of what the dinners used to be like, then I imagine dinners were very good. Connie served marmalade stuffed French toast w/sage sausage the first morning and for the second morning I had an egg dish that Connie described as inspired by Philly cheeseteaks. Unfortunately for me, it came prepared with mushrooms(which I have never developed a taste for) but Connie whipped up another batch w/o mushrooms. All in all breakfast was very good. Good news, though, as Jake mentioned they are busy working on opening a restaurant nearby. If I’m ever back in Danville, I’ll definitely give it a try. A couple of nits to pick about II Georges only one of which is under their control: First, be prepared for the train horns. The trains don’t run near the Inn(which is situated in the heart of old downtown Danville) but the trains are close enough to the Inn that you hear their horns. The horns aren’t startlingly loud but they are noticeable. I’m not sure what is up w/the train engineers but they are rather horn happy. The city of Danville would do well to curb the excessive horn honking. For the 2 nights(Fri & Sat) I was there the honking occurred around 10PM and 11:30PM for 30 – 60 seconds at a time. If you’re not in bed before then, then its a non-issue. If you are, then its a bit annoying. I wouldn’t say it was a deal-breaker, but you definitely notice it in the not so distant distance. The only other nit to pick is in the bathroom. For a romantic getaway, the clawfoot tub could’ve been a bit larger. I’m sure its original to the house’s Victorian design and if you appreciate that kind of thing, then it will be a bonus, but I would’ve preferred a bit larger version. The spacious bathroom certainly could’ve accommodated it. And finally, the shower’s water pressure was a bit low. For a relaxing shower where you don’t mind lingering until your hair is slowly rinsed, this isn’t so much of an issue. But if you’re in a hurry, you’ll notice how long it takes for the moderate water pressure to rinse your hair.
