We aren’t obliged to drive up through SW Wisconsin to enjoy Brunkow cheeses. That route is rather boring. Fortunately Brunkow brings the cheeses, especially our favorite fresh curds, to Chicago during farmers market season. Brunkow is sophisticated enough despite their impossibly rural location to fulfill your cheese orders by courier practically wherever you live and I’ll tell ya, in the categories Brunkow makes cheese, you cannot experience any better. My downtown Chicago building is all foodies, we have eaten from this coop for years, and we all love ‘em. Never had fresh and squeaky cheese curds? Start here, you won’t be disappointed. We’re working through a few bags now.

While I don’t love that they«stand with walker» as Fred E. noted, as a Unilocal Elite I don’t feel as though my personal political preferences should judge Brunkow’s cheese. We stopped at the Brunkow shop on Hwy F just outside of Darlington, WI. The cheese was very reasonably priced, less than supermarkets. We bought a large block of cheddar($ 4.59), a spreadable cheddar, and fresh curds. There were two women there, and they were making the cheese on site. The curds were unbelievable. Squeaky all the way through! They had just been made, which was a cool experience to get something fresh. They were still warm. The block of medium sharp cheddar is delicious, too. As is the spread(though it is more mild than other spreads). They have both natural and artificial flavors in some of their products. We only bought natural. It was nice too that the packaging indicates whether or not the rennet and enzymes are from plant or animal sources. They also sell raw milk cheese varieties. If you’re in the area, it is very much worth a stop to get fresh curds, and manufacturer priced cheese. The curds are truly as good as it gets.

This cheese is so TASTY! Really! You can take my word for it or purchase some yourself, it is absolutely, darn tooting, AMAZING!!! I discovered this stuff at the Andersonville Farmers Market a couple weeks ago. On the suggestion of a friend(thanks John B.) I went for the Horseradish Raw Milk Cheddar Cold Pack Cheese. I then, immediately became an addict. I mixed just a small teaspoon full with brown rice noodles to make adult Mac-n-cheese and ate the stuff for a week straight. A friend made a dinner of lamb and I brought the same cold pack cheese for dressing in case anyone wanted to try it. It made the lamb even better! The raw milk cold pack cheese is incredibly flavorful, just a dab provides intense flavor. I am finding myself using the cold pack cheeses in my regular cooking to spice up blah dishes. I had no idea that cold pack cheese could be very versatile in its usage. In addition to being so tasty on bread and crackers, it has other great uses. Brunkow cheese has a really great product. I am sure I will be back for even more!
