I picked up a half share at Copley last year, and I just signed up again for this year. I was happy with the vegetables, and I loved the jams and little extra cheeses that occasionally showed up. The guys who ran the farm stand were great and always let customers swap things out if you didn’t like it or were just kind of overwhelmed — 2014 was a banner year for bok choi apparently, but I can only eat so much…

This will be my 3rd year joining the silverbrook CSA. The first year was ok but could have used more variety and at the end of the year they sent our surveys and I said i wanted more variety, emails with the weeks share, and recipes… low and behold year two they had added all of those things. They seem to really listen to the feedback they get and their customer service is awesome! The same person has been at the copley market for the last two years, He is always so happy and chatty, he always waves when i pick up my share and totally makes my day. He seems to take the time to get to know the people. I have driven past the farm a bunch of times and love knowing im feeding my family fresh food grown right here in MA

This is my first CSA experience and I am so happy with everything! The food is wonderful, the service on my Wednesday Boston City Hall pick up is friendly(Scott is awesome!) and I feel like it is definitely a value. Some of my friends have other CSAs and are not as satisfied. I’ve recommended you, and I will be back next year. Thank you for all of your hard work

This was our first CSA and we were looking forward to a summer of fresh vegetables each week. We purchased a full share for collection at the Copley Square farmers market. At the beginning of the season we were promised a wide variety of fruits and vegetables along with other delights such as jams, eggs, cheeses amongst other things. Each week we would receive an e-mail from them detailing the kinds of things that we could expect. The first week we were told we were getting a sunflower in a pot along with a nice list of veggies. We learned right away that we should not expect to receive most of what was suggested in the email. Now, I appreciate that the growing season dictates that the variety of what we receive however it appears that the variety at Silverbrook is strictly limited to the start of the CSA season. In the first four or five weeks we received a great variety of fruits and vegetables along with some cheeses, some jams and eggs. But after mid-July, that was it. The variety that was promised us each week was non existent and the quality left a lot to be desired. The sidekick at Copley treated us with as much distain as he treated the vegetables he would toss onto the table for us to bag. We would have to go through our share on the day we got it to weed out rotten fruit and veggies. For most of the season we would get one head of lettuce and some corn along with things such as two apples or two tomatoes and some kale or tomatillos. Toward the end of the season there was a lot of winter squash, but the other veggies were coming from stores and were not good. The website lists examples what you can expect, but at least a third of what they suggest they provide as part of the CSA was not part of our take and the amounts suggested were not close. At the time we decided to buy into the CSA program we convinced a friend to get a full share too. We both chose different farms and compared our take each week. We also spoke with others who had farm shares from other farms and all I can say is that in comparison a full share from Silverbrook is around a disappointing half of what one gets elsewhere. This year we’re going to another farm for our CSA.

Absolutely WORST farm share ever. This past summer I bought a ½ share with my boyfriend and picked Silverbrook Farm because they advertised their produce comes from multiple farms and you get extras(jam, cheese, etc.) every once in a while. 1st problem: No variety. We got tons of the same stuff week after week after week. We were constantly overloaded with peas, green beans and lettuce. I would spend hours blanching and freezing and most of the produce didn’t freeze well and had to be thrown out. They also gave us tons of pea leaves. WTF are you supposed to do with tea leaves. I tried almost every recipe online to make them edible but it comes down to this: they are the leaves of the plant, not the edible delicious part. 2nd problem: The gentlemen running the stand(we picked up our share in City Hall Plaza on Wednesdays) were always rude to my boyfriend. They always let me pick out my corn and other assorted vegtables, but would never let by bf. One week he asked them if he could since the week before they gave us corn that had blueberries smashed into it and they rudely told him that it was all the same and proceeded to stuff the bag. 3rd problem: Their green beans gave my boyfriend and I food poisoning. I emailed Jeff at Silverbrook letting him know what happened so he could at least warn others or avoid tainting the veggies the next time. I never got a response to the email and they even asked me to write a testimonial for their website! They have the worst customer service I have ever encountered.

We are new to the Silverbrook Farm CSA this year, and so far the jury is still out. The CSA(Community Supported Agriculture) concept is wonderful — a big box of fresh, local food delivered to you every week — but the execution hasn’t quite been what we’d thought. Some of our neighbors belong to other CSAs and have had great experiences, so I’m going to give Silverbrook 3 stars for now and hope that I have a reason to come back and update this review with more stars later in the summer. Overall, the produce is quite good — so far we’ve had kale, kohlrabi(one of my favorites — go buy some if you’ve never had this!), and salad greens, which were all fresh, and strawberries, which were a little overripe. Each of the first two weeks, though, we’ve only had 6 items, which seems a little low given that their guidelines for share amounts said that early summer shares would be ~9 items. So decent produce, but not the quantity that we were expecting. The other slightly disappointing part is that we received the email saying what would be included in this week’s share the night before the delivery. It would be nice to know what was coming further in advance so we could go grocery shopping with the items in mind. The other CSAs that we looked at or that our friends belong to(Red Fire Farms, etc.), all do newsletters that tell you what you’re going to get, suggested recipes, etc., so I think I just assumed Silverbrook would do this too. This is really my fault for not doing my homework on this one, but I figured I’d mention it so others wouldn’t make the same mistake. I’m hoping this gets better as the season goes on!
