This realty company appears to dominate the canal rental market on Dauphin Island, with some gulf side and bay front properties as well. We rented a cabin from this company as part of a multi-family trip to the island. The cabin itself was comfortable, clean, and well-appointed. The only issue — and it is, in my mind, a major one — is that when my elderly mother(who does not have a cell phone) looked for a phone in the house, it was stored in a closet. When she asked the realty company about phone service, they told her that per the owner of the cabin the phone was unable to be used except for dialing 911. They would not give her an incoming number so that others in our group might be able to contact her. This might be acceptable in another locale, but on Dauphin Island, weather conditions are frequently extreme and dangerous. During my family’s trip, there was flooding on the island, and my parents were essentially stranded in their cabin, unable to contact any other member of our party. The only way to ensure that they were safe was to drive on flooded streets to check on them physically, which was unsafe and stressful for everyone involved. Bottom line: it should be illegal not to rent units with phones for incoming calls upon request. If it’s not illegal, then it’s certainly inhumane, and I will always choose another realty company that treats customers with basic consideration.

Spent hours over multiple phone calls to find the perfect place. Booked a rental, signed a contract, and then they call to cancel on us. Only way to keep the reservation is to book the full week which isn’t possible. Not cool.
