The Field House

Poor service, lousy food, overpriced drinks, and a rude management team. I will never go there again, and would highly advise you not to waste your hard earn money there. There is so many options in the area. Go to Vanz, public house, heroes, Hawkeye, or the filling station instead.

I’ve been to The Field House probably six times. When it first opened the staff seemed engaged and on-​point. In the last year it’s gone downhill every visit. The food is good, the TVs are among the best in the area, the beer selection is always good. The staff just seems disinterested and annoyed at all times. It makes for an unpleasant customer experience. I want to like this place and I started out as a big fan. Now I can’t hardly stand to give them my business. I find myself eating and leaving after one drink just to go somewhere more pleasant.

Very very slow service — waitresses don’t act like they want to be there. The appetizer was excellent when we finally got served.

I don’t think there is a better place to watch a game in the QC! Every TV is BIG and there are plenty of them. I got the grilled tenderloin and it might just be the best I’ve had. Big 34oz drafts are all priced reasonably and the mugs are ALWAYS ice cold. If crafts are your thing they have unique ones and not just the typical ones. You can not get a better all around experience at a sports bar than this!

I really want to rate The Field House higher, but they have a few things to work out. That being said, I have been here several times and it has gotten better. My main complaints were that the staff was somewhat clueless and it was being run like an Iowa City bar. I love IC, but were not there and I expect a drink list not hand written and a menu without sharpie changes.
I voiced these concerns and on subsequent visits, I was happy to see that they did have printed drink menus. I can see they are trying to adapt to the market.
Now for my visits… they have AWESOME TVs here… best in tbe Quad Cities and the staff has changed requested TVs the the games we want to watch. They have plenty of great beers on tap and they rotate them regularly (coming from a home brewer). Not to mention, their 34oz steins are very reasonably priced. I’ve only had a burger here once and it was good, but nothing great. Friends have gotten food and no one has complained, but their expectations were decent bar food, which is what they got.
Summary…friendly staff, just not the best trained. Great for watching sports. Good beer.

I don’t mind the staff spending a lot of time socializing, IF they do everything else right. That is not the case here. The food was mediocre. The chicken my wife had was cold and tasted processed. It took far too long to get our food. We went there shortly after 1pm on a weekday, so the lunch rush was done. There were not many in the restaurant. Why they couldn’t get a salad and a burger out in a timely fashion makes no sense.
I think these guys are resting on their reputation as a fun party place in Iowa City. They better start wanting to be a good restaurant in Davenport.
