This place is great… wonderful instructors, small yet clean facility, and première upkeep on their fleet. Def recommend for all those interested in flying or obtaining their PPL.

My father in law is currently getting his pilots license here and his last minute christmas wish was to get more flight time. I called Rose at Cal Aggie Flying Farmers and she explained everything that I needed to know in order to accomplish this. She even personalized a gift certificate that I could give to my father in law and sent it off in the mail! Perfect :-)

Probably fine for everyone else, but definitely not me. Turned in my app, and waited a MONTH to get a call back from the chief pilot, who in turn, basically told me I was too fat to fly a Cessna 172. The same airplane I currently have a decent amount of time in. The excuse I received is that the seat belts would not handle my weight in a high-G situation. Really? Well, in a High-G situation, the wing spar, landing gear, etc… are what REALLY matter. Offered to let me fly the new fancy 172SP though, but at $ 140+/hr plus instructor? Hell I could buy my own 172 for that… Maybe that’s what I should do. Nice enough instructors, I met a few of them, but the club in general is VERY finicky. Try Acampo, or some of the others in the area… they’re more laid back and focus on the flying, not the bureaucracy.

Best place to learn how to fly. If you are not sure or have extra $ 50, call them up and ask for a demo flight. They will take you up in the air and it will be one of the most exciting things you have done in your life. All instructors are very friendly and it feels like an extended family. Instructor prices are lower than any other place I know(because Cal Aggie is a non-profit) and the plane prices are very reasonable(lower than any other place I know too). This airport is an asset and more people should take advantage of it!

I just had my first flying lesson(familiarization flight) with Cal Aggie Flyers. Cal Aggie Flyers runs their flying club at University Airport, right on UC Davis property and have several planes to rent from the club. I talked to some of the people who were working there and they said they have some of the cheapest rates in the area(northern california) due to the fact that Cal Aggie Flyers is a non-profit. Anyhow, long story short, the flight was awesome(got to help on the take off and flew a little in flight) BUTTTT I had motion sickness near the end. Plan to go again sometime soon!
