Dagon Jones DDS, Paul Johnson DDS, & Michael Ciccarelli DMD

Their dental service is fantastic, however as others have mentioned they stopped taking Delta Dental. I was told that «nothing would change» other than paying for all of it up front and receiving a reimbursement check later. Well, this is what happened, except I wound up paying $ 64.60 out of $ 105 for a regular cleaning as opposed to the $ 21 it used to be. If you work at Bayer in Sacramento, don’t bother coming here anymore.

They are really organized and efficient and do a good job. Parking is easy and the ladies work very hard to accommodate people so customer service is really good. However, they just decided to stop taking Delta Dental and that does not work for me! :(Will you change your mind so I can come back?

Integrity, quality and dedication are the three most descriptive words for this practice. I have seen Dr. Ciccarelli and Jones on separate occasions and they are both excellent dentists.
The office staff, hygienists and assistants are also excellent, which is very important for quality of care. I learned more about oral care during my most recent cleaning than I learned in years! They are also knowledgeable and helpful with insurance and billing questions.
A week or so after a cleaning I had painful swelling around my wisdom tooth. I called in and the office staff got me an appointment on the same day. Kudos to Dr. Jones for being flexible. He then went above and beyond, convincing me to have the wisdom tooth extracted on the spot. His confidence was a huge factor in the decision. He and his assistant quickly and painlessly carried out the procedure and made sure to answer all of my questions. He even gave me his personal phone number in case I had any problems and called me that evening to check up on me.
Two days later I called in complaining of swelling and pain around the site, and once again they invited me to come by as soon as I could. Dr. Jones did a complementary follow up, cleaned the affected area and wrote me a prescription for an antibiotic.
TL;DR — Honest, extremely accommodating and dependable, flexible, great quality care

A GREAT DENTAL EXPERIENCE! A good trusted Dentist is hard to find! I seldom feel as though I am going to the right person for dental work! I came across the BEST Dentist in Davis, CA! When I arrived, I was warmly welcomed and called back promptly. I was asked questions about what was causing me pain in my mouth and Dr. Jones listened thoroughly and came up with a prognosis, then gave me ideas of what he could do for me. I had x-​rays taken by the awesome Dental Assistant Janelle. I was shown what was happening to a tooth that giving me grief and after discussing what the plan was for it, Dr Jones worked quickly and kept me more comfortable than I have ever been at a Dentist office! I was kept informed every step of the process and even offered some cool sunglasses to wear so the light did not hurt my eyes. I do not like needles of any sort and was totally amazed with how Dr. Jones went about giving me numbing medication as he did not poke me hard or scare me as he was about to put a long needle in my mouth. I was provided with complete care instructions for after the procedure I had done and even left feeling excited for the rest of my day even though I had to go to work after!

I am absolutely terrified of the dentist. Every experience I’ve had has been horrible, traumatizing, and some variation of painful. Because of this, I have avoided seeing a dentist for over 5 years and only just recently motivated myself to make an appointment with this office at the recommendation of a few people.
I have to say, after 5 years of not seeing a dentist and dreading the first appointment I’d made here, that I actually ended up looking forward to each subsequent visit [3 total, one filling each time]. My brother and boyfriend have both been seen by Doctors Jones and Johnson and loved them, but I was seen by Doctor Ciccarelli. I was so impressed! He and his assistant were so reassuring, gentle, and thorough and I loved their humor. I was super appreciative of the fact that he replaced a silver filling with a tooth-​colored filling because the cavity was right next to it, and he didn’t even charge me for the removal of the old one. He always made sure I was numbed up enough and didn’t feel any pain, which I was grateful for. If he had any doubts about the thoroughness of a filling, he would do an x-​ray to double check that everything was okay.
I’m kind of bummed that I don’t have any future appointments here other than a cleaning later this year because I enjoyed them so much! I never in my entire life thought I would come to like visiting the dentist, but the staff here are so amazing, you can’t help but want to come back. They’re too charming!
If you have any fear of the dentist, I highly recommend these guys. I have already sent a friend here and she loves them too.

Why did I wait so long to have my teeth checked out (5+yrs)! Oh, because every other last dental visit was a nightmare. But after having been cared for by Dr. Ciccarelli and his amazing staff, I am really looking forward to my next visit. My cleaning was virtually painless, and I even got a little goody bag ;)
Staff are amazing, very helpful and kind towards students. The office is beautiful. I had literally no wait time. I highly recommend coming here.

Until recently I was a patient but decided to change dentists because I sensed that I was being overtreated and overbilled. I’m lucky in that I have double dental coverage. Past dentists cleaned my teeth twice a year but suddenly, here, I needed 3 cleanings per year and a whole lot of other things. I mentioned that I might get a mouthguard for night time grinding and suddenly I was getting phone calls wanting me to come in to arrange for it ($ 400 but 0 to me after insurance). On my final visit, the hygienist sold me a $ 20 tube of toothpaste, then seemed disappointed when I wanted a prescription for it to buy it elsewhere. It got to the point where I didn’t know whether a treatment was truly necessary or merely benign but would make money for the practice.
I can’t speak for the doctors themselves, except that Dr. Jones is a better listener and I’d recommend him over Johnson on that basis.

I visited this office about six months ago. Dr. Ciccarelli informed me that I had three small cavities that potentially needed to be filled. To his credit, he recommended doing a single filling to determine the extent of the decay and whether further fillings would be necessary. I was uninsured at the time and decided to wait until I got my insurance back before I had any work done.
Fast forward to today when my family dentist, who has been practicing for 31 years and, to the best of my knowledge, has never led me astray, looks in my mouth, looks at my x-​rays, and tells me what absolutely beautiful teeth I have. Not only did he find no cavities, he found no evidence of decay whatsoever. Not even anything to keep an eye on.
Dr. Ciccarelli seemed like a very nice person and people have apparently been happy with his work. But if I had taken his advice he would have been drilling into healthy teeth, charging me hundreds of dollars, and I’d end up with a bunch of fillings I didn’t need. Very disappointed.

They are super-​nice, and very professional. Every time I walk through the door, they greet me by name. They ask about my kids and are just super-​sweet.
I’ve been going here for a few years now, and I don’t plan on changing ever!

The staff is friendly/​caring, the place is extremely professional, and Doctor Jones is AMAZING! He knows what he is doing, makes his work almost painless, and truly cares about his patients. I highly recommend this place for any dentistry work!

After having so many bad dentist experiences, I have to commend this dentistry for their amazing work. Once you come here, your perception of how the dentist office is CHANGES.
I’ve been here twice and both Dr. Ciccarelli and Dr. Jones worked on my teeth. I had to come in for an emergency (I had tripped wearing heels and I broke most of my front tooth) and they took me the day of. I needed to get a root canal done. I was devastated at the fact, but it was not as bad as I thought it would be. They went over all the costs with me and tried to be as helpful as possible. Dr. Jones performed the root canal and he really listened to my needs and concerns; which was mostly me whining and crying when it hurt: P. Then Dr. Ciccarelli created a build-​up for me. It matched PERFECTLY. You could barely tell anything had happened. After he was done with my tooth, he said «dayum» and rightfully so! I appreciated their carefulness and attention to my opinions. Dr. Jones even called me the night of to ask how my tooth was doing. It’s such a nice breath of fresh air from all the bad dental work I’ve had in the past.
I HIGHLY recommend this dentist office. If I won the lottery, I would come here and just spend all of it on whatever they can offer. Coming here has made me realize that you can’t skim out on good dental work. You get what you par for. I’ll definitely come back again!

Never thought I’d say this but I really enjoy coming to the dentist here.
Everyone is very friendly and professional. The ladies at the front desk are really helpful with insurance info and changing appointments. The dental hygienists are very thorough and take care to explain what they’re doing and what they’re looking for. Luckily, I’ve only had to have 1 filling here so I haven’t had too much one on one time with the dentist but he seems to know his stuff and never recommends unnecessary work. Plus at the end of your cleaning, they always give you freebies of toothbrushes, a whole slew of choices of floss and mouthwash!

Fantastic office with a friendly, professional staff. We’re very happy to have found them and plan to keep coming back even after we move into the bay area.

Exceptional experience — the staff members here will make you look forward to your teeth cleanings. Dr. Jones and my hygienist Rachel were professional, caring and thorough.
They are worth the extra co-​pay if your insurance doesn’t cover everything (I’m looking at you, UC SHIP). If I still lived in Davis, Dr. Jones and Rachel would have me as a patient for life!

Dr. Johnson has been the best dentist I’ve had yet.
I come from an experience where a dentist I had gone too since I had teeth duped me into a procedure I did not need costing me an unnecessary root canal and thousands of dollars. Unfortunately he was the first in a series of untrustworthy shotty dentists. I did plenty of research on dentists in the area (2 years worth) before I went to Dr. Johnson. He exceeded my expectations.
When he saw that time was tight for my cavity filling appointment, he agreed to come in to the office off-​schedule on Friday to be able to accommodate me as well as provide ample time for precise work. The procedure was done carefully and deliberately avoiding added unnecessary costs to me. As a student, this aspect of his practice is very appreciated.
Prevention is valued highly in Dr. Johnson’s practice — an unfortunately rare feature of most young dentist practices.
Also, he’s just a really nice guy! He takes the time to get to know you and understand what your needs are. He takes the time to explain everything to you and gives you the ultimate option in how you would like to proceed.
I would certainly recommend Dr. Johnson to anyone that I know.

So who EVER likes going to the dentist? No one. I’m pretty sure dentists don’t even like going to their jobs. Before coming here I had only ever been to one dentist basically since I was born, but I’m a grad student on the UC SHIP insurance which is running out soon and I figured I’d take advantage while I still have it.
So I searched on Unilocal and found a lot of iffy places. For most of the other dentists in the area half the reviews say they love them and the other half generally started with something like «WORST DENTIST EVER, NEVER GO HERE, THEY SUCKED OUT MY SOUL AND THEN CHARGED ME $ 4000 FOR IT!!!» You know, standard complaint. Anyways, you see enough of those and you start to see a few, maybe a lot, of red flags coming up. I decided to go with this office because they had amazing reviews.
The staff was totally nice and helpful, the dental assistant who took my X-​rays was great. And then the doctor walks in and holy moly is he handsome. So you know, that’s always nice. If your going to have a bunch of hands in your mouth its nice to know that they’re attached to something pretty. But besides that, Dr Chicarelli (I probably butchered the spelling of that, but really, what can he expect with a last name like that?) was very friendly, personable, talkative, assertive and I could tell he really tried to make me feel comfortable. Which is greatly appreciated. I mean if you HAVE to have someone shoving instruments that highly resemble ice picks into your gums, he’s not a bad one to do it.
So turns out, big surprise, I need to get some work done. I went in for a cleaning and the hygienist Jen was awesome, she was nice and tried to make me as comfortable as possible. Also neither her or the doc scolded me too much. Which is one of my biggest deterrents from going to dentists, you know other than the ice picks and needles and drills and saws, but I hate when they make me feel like a child for not taking good enough care of my teeth. They didn’t do that, which is great. I’m a grown woman, I know I’m not as tip top with my dental hygiene as I should be, but honestly, who is? Other than the people that work in dental offices.
Well this is dragging on. Basically I have to go back in for some fillings and I’m actually kind of looking forward to it?!? Super weird. Never had that feeling before. It’s somewhat disorienting. But even if this wasn’t a great place before, I’m pretty sure Dr C (not even gunna try spelling it again) is their secret weapon. You just look at him and you’re like «oh yeah, I should probably come back here and get everything that i could ever possibly need done to my teeth done. Ever. Just take my money, I don’t even care.»
All in all. GREAT PLACE!!!

Really loved going to this dentist, but was just notified that as of July 2015 they no longer accept Delta Dental. I mean– who doesn’t take Delta?! It is a hardship and will certainly impact their clients. This forces me to look elsewhere. Too bad– had to take a star off for that.
If you do have insurance they accept– the dentist was professional and took his time to speak with me about what procedures would be considered in my dental needs. The office staff was friendly and smiling, and the hygienist was amazing!

Dr. Ciccarelli does beautiful work and makes you feel comfortable. Plus he is really adorable. :)

Best place ever!
First off; to the lady who claimed she had pain after her fillings. no, REALLY?! Is it the first time you’ve ever had a procedure done? Or are you just plain. AH. I don’t get it when people leave random ridiculous reviews complaining about things that are obviously out of the hands of the dentist. If you had NO PAIN then you should be worried since they might have skipped the procedure altogether and gave you a bill! There rarely are any procedures that you don’t feel some sort of pain after; the body reacts to the invasive procedures properly in that manner and if you have pain-​killer seeking behavior you should seek a specialist. Anyways.
I’ve switched to Dr. Dagon after a horrible experience with another Dentist in Davis. of whom they have SEVERAL 5-​Star reviews written by their own employee’s. go figure it out yourself (they have several 1-​Star honest reviews).

I am incredibly amazed by their facility; it’s next to the Police Department in Davis so it’s a nice place to be and it’s so understated that it’s incredible. I like the very modern feel to the place and I’ve frequented many dental institutions as an intern to when I was helping an elderly Parkinson’s patient and taking him to his various Dental offices and surgery offices all over Davis and I have to say that this place takes the cake. It’s clean, the designs are not over-​bearing and the AIR is clean! Not funky dentist-​office smelling. So aesthetically, this place gets an A+.
The staff are all generously nice, they apologize for the slightest mix up and they always are so helpful in scheduling appointments. No pretentious attitudes here! I had one of the Dental assistants do my cleaning a while back and wow! She was nice, did the most incredible cleaning job I’ve experienced to date and was kind enough to explain every detail of her work to me and we had a great conversation about restaurants and food (since I“m a foodie :)
Now, the most important part. Dr. Dagon is a fantastic dentist; I had my cavities filled here and he did a fantastic job and did not drag his feet about and was actually able to quote a new aspect of the procedure that he was implementing based on his input of research he keeps up to date with. All in all, it went by much more quickly than I anticipated and I left feeling happy and giddy and cavity-​free!
All in all– a great place to go for all things Dental-​related and needed.
There IS a reason this place is the highest rated on Unilocal and it was only due to Unilocal that I found this place so I am indebted to Unilocal in this regard.

It’s been over 3 hours since I had my filling done, and I have never experienced this much pain/​discomfort after a dental/​cavity filling. I spoke to my aunt who is a dentist, and she says that soreness isn’t out of the ordinary. Still, it would’ve been nice to get a heads-​up on that.
Pro: everyone there is friendly.
Con: I’m in pain and had to resort to Advil.
