Great daily deals! For about 10 bucks you get an entrée(usually a sandwich) two sides and a soda. I usually go for the westerner sandwich and a side of loaded mashed potatoes and crispy onions! Staff is friendly and welcome you as soon as you walk in!

I have been coming to this Dickey’s BBQ pretty much since it first opened. Normally I would have given this particular chain 4⁄5 stars. However, their quality of food has dropped significantly as of recently. The past several times I have been here I was left with severely sub-par food. I’m not sure if this place is under new management or what, but this place is not what it used to be. I had hoped that this last visit would be better, but it wasn’t. I will definitely think twice before ordering from here again.

Had a tasty brisket sandwich and staff was nice and thoughtful enough to give my 3 year old girl a bite sized bbq chicken taster.

I wanted ribs, but they were out. :(So I got the pulled pork sandwich with loaded potatoes and green beans. The pork was kind of bland, the potatoes were normal/what you’d expect out of mashed potatoes, and the same with the beans. There’s not really much to say. It was just a «met my expectations» kind of meal– edible, but no wow factor. But I shall return for the ribs! The picture looks delicious so I’m hoping that’s an accurate representation. Bring a sweatshirt though. It’s freezing in there…

Food was decent quality and for the price range the serving size was also decent. I left the shop with my appetite satisfied and without breaking the bank. This review drops down to 3 stars because of the constant annoyance from numerous flies during the visit. Not one, not two, not three. I counted at least four separate of the buzzing beasts landing on my food, on my face, in my drink, and all around my head. So the food was good, the price was fine, the seating was ample and comfortable but having flies constantly buzzing around my body and food kind of ruined the whole experience for me.

I am the first person to be overly critical of BBQ. I lived in the South for 13 years and I can tell you, this place is on point. I had the ribs and could smell and taste the hickory. It was heavenly. My girlfriend had the pulled pork and thought it was amazing. As she is also from the South, that is a compliment. She also had the onion tanglers and thought they were great. I don’t know what everyone else is talking about… we will DEFINITELY be coming back.

This location is now on its second Manager since opening up. Previously I would have given it a 3 of 5 stars but I now give it a 5 of 5 stars. Art is the new manager and wants to make sure your experience is great every time. I am a Friday regular and he and his staff take care of us every time. Great food, great atmosphere and sports are always on one of the multiple TV’s inside.

So you kinda expect a bbq place to kind of taste like bbq, as in smoke… well no smoke flavor from the pulled pork or brisket. Had the Cole slaw which was watery, and the mac and cheese was mushy and tasted artificial.

Great customer service! The male on staff made me and my company feel extremely welcome, he was extremely hospitable, and he made both of us want to come back! First time ever coming to this place, the food was great, the deals are great, and the atmosphere is very friendly. I am recommending to all my friends!

Food is pretty decent however at my most recent visit they ran out of chicken(which is what I would have ordered) and it wasn’t going to be done for another 20 minutes. Being that it was dinner time, I was hungry and already in line I didn’t feel like leaving and going somewhere else so I ordered a one meat plate, which came with 2 sides and a bread roll. I ordered an extra roll because their rolls tend to be good however I was slightly disappointed this time because they weren’t as soft as they’ve previously been. Also, it was absolutely freezing inside… Definite downside to enjoying your meal when you’re shivering uncontrollably! But on a plus side, I do like that kids eat free on Sundays and there is always free self-serve vanilla ice cream!

This place is ok. The food is nothing to brag about but it did hit the spot. It seems that each time I go they are out of some sort of meat choice, today it was chicken. The place seemed clean and the staff was friendly, but I think it was literally 50 degrees inside. which would have been fine it was a hot day. But 8pm on a cold April night. No thanks. I also like the fact that they have free frozen yogurt with your meal, and kids eat free on Sunday. I would rate more stars if only I could have had my chicken. And without a coat.

This BBQ place is average. Nothing to write home about. I tried the BBQ brisket sandwich with a couple sides. They put plenty of meat on the sandwich(no shortage here), but the sides are a little on the small side. The Mac n cheese was very cheese(which is good) and the potato salad was more of a dill inspired version. Would prefer a better potato salad recipe(think egg, pickle and celery for texture). They have 3 sauces to choose from: sweet, original, or spicy. I prefer the spicy one, but still not spicy enough. The sweet one not really sweet. They have free vanilla soft serve to go. So enjoy. Overall, this is not a BBQ place that I would travel great lengths to visit. Food quality is average(not amazing; not bad). The staff is friendly.

I had some pretty high expectations coming to Dickey’s BBQ PIt. It was highly recommended by a few of my friends, so I decided to give it a try. Maybe I should have gone on a different day… but the Friday I went was one of the poorer dining experiences I have had in a while. I arrived at Dickey’s at about 6PM for dinner. I waited for some of my friends to come and noticed that there was a short line inside already. Hmm. must be pretty good I thought! If there’s a line of people waiting, that’s gotta be good. As I waited longer, I noticed that the people in line hadn’t moved very much at all, and in fact, not very many people had come out of the restaurant with food either. Was it slow service? When a few of my friends arrived we went inside and found out. Yes, it was indeed slow service because there were only two people staffing the restaurant. One person was cutting the meats while the other(overworked) staffer was putting orders together, cooking up sides, AND collecting money. That was where the slowdown was. I felt really bad for her. She just had too much to do. She was very apologetic for the slow service, but it was ridiculously slow. Most customers ordered a plate of food that included 2 sides. If they ordered the fries or fried okra… she had to fry them up to order — which took about 2 minutes. So each customer in line had to wait until the entire order was cooked and finished and paid for before they could move forward in line. I ended up being in line for almost 30 minutes. When I finally got to the front of the line I decided to be merciful to the others behind me and not get any fried foods. I chose to get Doritos and baked beans that had been sitting around. That seemed the safest and ‘freshest’ choice as the mac and cheese looked cold and rubbery. Did I mention the flies? No? Ok, well, there were lots of flies that day too — and with my sensitive stomach I was weary to get anything that may have been uncovered so I avoided any salads. So if all that wasn’t bad enough, I got a big yellow cup for some soda. The cup is pretty large and it’s cool looking. But when I got to the soda machine, there was absolutely no ice. ARggggh! So I had some semi-cold soda to go with my meal. The meal itself wasn’t the greatest. I had the three meat plate — brisket, chicken, and turkey. The brisket was cold and tough when I got it and the turkey was a bit like lunch meat from the grocery store. The best thing on the plate was the chicken. And the price for everything? Over $ 16. Will I give Dickey’s a try again? I’m not sure. But I’m willing to say that my dining experience was attributed to a very bad day at the restaurant. If I return, I’ll update my review!

Kinda awkward– When I saw a Dickey’s was opening up in Davis, I was like«well that doesn’t really fit» Whatever, as we say in the grocery business, «if it doesn’t fit, make it fit!» Came here on a Saturday night and there were 2 people in front of me. I didnt know how ordering worked and no one really greeted me when I walked in, so I kinda just wandered to the register. The lady told me to order up front, and I was like, «oh ok» and ordered to a preoccupied guy carving meat. The lady up front is also in charge of making the sides, however, as there were people in front of me, she had to ring them up and apparently forgot about my sides. So I kinda just hung out, because I wasnt sure if these were how things went. It took the meat carver dude to ask me why I was still here and I told him I wanted my sides, and he was like«sorry here ya go» 3 stars though for delicious meats and the fact that you can get the 3 meat meal option and feed two people for $ 12.95

While the food here isn’t spectacular, it definitely hits the spot. My coworker and I got take-out from here after work one night. From reading the other reviews, it seems like this place gets pretty hectic during peak hours. We ordered shortly before closing, and our food was ready to be picked up within 20 minutes. I ordered the two meat plate with sliced brisket and turkey breast. I was ready to dig into some bbq that was slathered in bbq sauce, but I guess this isn’t that type of bbq joint. The meat was extremely tender and decently seasoned, but was missing that beautiful bbq saucy-ness. The sliced brisket was really good, but the turkey breast was almost TOO tender. It had the texture of processed sliced turkey sandwich meat. For sides, I chose the jalapeño pinto beans and the green beans with bacon. The pinto beans were really good, but the green beans were just a sad mushy glop. I thought the prices of their meat plates were a little hidden on their online menu, so here they are: 1 meat plate: $ 9.95 2 meat plate: $ 10.95 3 meat plate: $ 12.95 The portions are big, and I live within walking distance so I will probably come back when I’m craving some bbq. Apparently, there’s free soft serve while you wait for your food to be prepared.

This spot brings in a crowd you don’t normally see in Davis, and that in itself makes it a somewhat interesting experience, if only for the people watching. The food itself is good, but this place has some flaws that hold it back. I came in only a few days after their apparently enormous grand opening, so it’s possible some of these issues have been ironed out as they’ve had a chance to figure things out. The ordering experience was essentially bad. Everyone behind the counter was very friendly with good energy and attitude, but you have to sort of travel through a line ordering one thing at a time. Things move pretty slow and clunky even if there’s no one in front of you. This needs to be stream-lined, I can’t imagine what a confusing and slow process this could become with a line out the door, should this ever occur. The food itself is kind of expensive, but I think the materials are too, so I can understand this. The half-stack rib plate I had came right out of the cooker, so my meat was soft and fell off the bone. My coach’s ribs(of which I had a few so I can fairly compare) were much tougher, and he said himself they may have been overcooked. I ordered a waffle iron potato side, which was a tasty and hardy side but ultimately amounted to what seemed like one slashed potato in a bag, which for the ~$ 3 – 4 price tag was kind of. skimpy. Ever buy potatoes at the store? You can get ten pounds of russets — like one or two dozen potatoes — for a couple bucks. I wish the bag had twice as much in it, then I’d happily pay $ 4. Overall this is a good spot if you’re craving BBQ, but my standards are particular — anyone who grew up in San Diego with an Oscar’s near them(as I did for a few years) will be the same.

Like a lot of other people on here, I agree that this place needs work. We came a month after opening and it was rough. Thankfully I’d read reviews so I was not confused when ordering. However, you are not greeted by the people taking side orders, I am sure this is not a training thing but more of a «i need to get this done» mindset of the workers so they get to you when they get to you. We ordered two two meat platters: chicken, cheesy sausage, brisket and I think prime rib. Mac and Cheese was cold, their potato salad was zesty, fries has mostly skins, but their Cesar salad was great! chicken and cheesy sausage were delicious! but not their brisket and prime rib so definitely not a good thing for a BBQ place. VERYSMALL servings do not expect to leave in a food coma.

2.5 stars. Expect to wait a longtime. I know that the place just opened but their system on taking your order and paying is very slow. When you walk in, you first order at the meat station then you move down the line to sides and then you pay. I went there with a friend and we ordered together. As we moved down the line after ordering, the workers seemed confused with each other on what we ordered since they don’t write it down but yell across to each other. Because of this, they forgot my sandwich which had to be brought out to me after. The food was tasty but was not worth the price. Two of my friends that was with me ordered the 3 meat plate and their portions seemed really small for what they paid. They also didn’t get the rolls that was supposed to come with them but because they were so busy and jumbled all over the place, we didn’t bother to ask for it. I ordered the Big barbecue sandwich with pulled pork which was was good and filling for me. Overall, the food was ok, a little dry and the service was really slow and disorganized. At least they have free soft serve.

My dreams of BBQ in Davis have been answered! They definitely had a rocky start though. I wanted to come for the grand opening at 11am, but the line was ridiculous and stretched all the way Dosirak without moving an inch by 11:30. Came back for dinner at 6pm to a much shorter line. Still took over an hr to finally get my food though :(. I’m sure things will get better after the opening day hype, but they have some serious problems with efficiency they need to figure out. I’d say overall this is pretty good BBQ! Their menu is a bit confusing, but ribs actually count as a «meat»(lol) and I got a 3 meat combo plate of ribs, brisket, and pulled pork. Brisket was the best of the bunch with a good smoky flavor and good fat ratio. Ribs were a bit of a letdown and dry, but I’m pretty picky on this. For sides, I picked up the baked potatoe casserole(which should really be named mashed potatoes, but whatever) and the green beans/bacon dish. The green beans look like straightup cafeteria food and doesn’t taste any special, but my arteries needed some veggies to balance out the meat. The 3-meal combo is $ 13, which I thought was pretty fair for the portions and quality of meat. There were lots of first-day jitters, and you could tell the staff was inexperienced but working extremely hard for all the customers. They really need to figure out a more efficient assembly line though. The engineer inside me was crying as I watched the meat carver painstakingly taking orders one by one: slicing a single portion of brisket for the person in front of me, saran wrapping the brisket, putting it in the warming oven, me ordering brisket, her removing the same piece from the oven, cutting the saran wrap, cutting me a single portion, saran wrapping, putting it back in the oven etc. WTF is happening here?! I was seriously shocked by this, and it’s no wonder their lines moved so damn slowly. Like I said, I think things will get much better as time goes on. The owner made multiple rounds while we were in line apologizing for the wait. You could tell he cared a lot and I really admired that. BBQ is a totally untapped market in Davis, and I think Dickey’s will fit right in! Can’t wait to come back.
