A surprising find! Awesome latte(amongst a number of appealing coffee options). Great quick service. Warm atmosphere, though small. Put this place in your pocket as a quick stop before or after a day on the slopes.

My parents often pick the strangest places to go on vacation, places that lack the cosmopolitan benefits of my big-city upbringing in Durham, NC. I feared Davis, WV might be such a backwater. But then we drove past HypnoCoffee. And, lo, the angels descended, singing a caffeinated Hallelujah. On the first day, the barista created for me an Americano. And it was good. And on second day, the barista made me a pourover coffee with Honduran beans(ground on the spot). And it was very good. Chill aesthetic, books and magazine to read, and an iPad to play with! Looks like there was a good beer selection(including a beer on tap), but I didn’t have any.

Absolutely delicious and fair priced. Excellent staff, excellent products. Clearly the best option for caffeine in the area. I wish they had a bigger place though. There was no seating room at all when we stopped in, so we ended up sitting and enjoying the goods in our car.

Fantastic place because of the friendly owner and staff(oh, and the coffee). The coffee I had was Mexico Chiapas and was great. My wife had an Ethiopian prepared via«pour over» method — she liked it better than mine but I liked the Mexican better. Kids had hot chocolate that wasn’t too sweet(«Swiss-Missy») and just right for my persnickety daughter. I suppose for coffee connoisseurs, there are HUGE differences in coffee but I kind of think of coffee from the coffee speciality places varying in difference like the parity in the NFL — not much actually separates them(except maybe between the Redskins and Patriots). The difference, as exemplified here, is the SERVICE and atmosphere and Hynnocoffee nailed that. Out of town skiers, locals and even the hip, «sprockets» poseur smoking a dark cigarette out front all seemed to feel at home. Great find!

We had a nice respite from West Virginia’s generally poor food options at Hypnocoffee. Not only can you get good coffee there, but the place has a good vibe, nice workers, and free WiFi. Its worth the trip.

Quality coffee, quality beers, quality folks, quality reading materials and, um, a sandy badminton court = awesome coffee shop. I can’t think of one comparable coffee shop in Pittsburgh, or anywhere.

My husband & I are from Virginia Beach & came to WV on a whim to XC ski. I was completely taken by surprise by this charming little town. The owner & staff at Hypno were as friendly & laidback as they come. The whole town was that way, actually. Because they’re so laid back they definitely have a different vibe than the fast-paced on-the-go attitude of coffee shops in bigger cities. But that’s actually one of the things I loved about the coffee shop. No, they weren’t super fast, but who cares? No one else seemed to be in a rush either… It was refreshing & everyone was patient. Love it. Now as far as the coffee & tea… delicious. I had a chai tea every day I was in town & my husband bought a few bags of coffee to take back home w/us. But the best find at Hypno was their keg of stout. It’s made w/82 shots of espresso & chocolate! You can even buy a growler of it TO-GO!!! Simply awesome.

New owner… great lattes and lovely pasteries. Kids enjoyed blueberry zucchini muffins and hot chocolate and we had triple lattes. Orange almond biscotti was fantastic. Must have all been homemade. We played Scrabble and the little ones played with the simple toys in the very kid-friendly corner while we waited out a thunderstorm. Décor was cozy… IKEA with eclectic touches. Local artist’s paintings on the walls. Wish we had a place like this where we live…

Great place, and such an unexpected find way out there in Davis. My brother and I drove out from Gaithersburg needing to spend some time injuring ourselves and getting filthy(i.e., mountain biking). Much to our surprise, after cursing our lack of foresight on the coffee front(two hopeless caffeine addicts who forgot to pack a coffee pot– dang!), we stumble across this place. It’s almost too good to be true. Anyway, we stopped in around«closing time», which meant that in order to fill our order for coffee + espresso, they needed to make a new pot of coffee. But then, because it was closing time, they insisted that we take as much as we wanted. Well, OK! I’m not sure you realize how much coffee we can drink! Also, «closing time» seemed to be a bit flexible as we, no joke, spoke to the owners for what must have been an hour, learned the whole Hypno Coffee story, why Davis is simultaneously awesome and a challenge, and how they homeschool their kids. Yes, people, we have a little bit of Amherst, MA right here in West Virginia. In case you don’t believe me, there are not one, but two outfitters, and a burrito place right next door(that has a I Want to Believe poster in its X-Files-themed bathroom). Oh, and Davis has a surprising number of bearded, tatooed, and pierced people walking around. Just like home! So my monthly coffee orders now get divvied up between Hypno(yes, they sell online!) and my perennial favorite, Rao’s. At first, Rao’s was clearly better, but I’ve noticed that Hypno has really taken to roasting seriously, and the quality gap has narrowed considerably. Recently ordered Mexican Chiapas and I am very pleased with what I got. If only you guys stocked Mocha Harrar! I know it is unlikely that you will pass through Davis, but if you ever do, you MUST stop here.

Sweet spot– I actually start to see West Virginia differently because of Davis, WVA and the fact that there is a coffeehouse. So that’s good news because I am kinda starting to think that WVA is better than VA. Friendly baristas(owners?), lovely spot, very open and their décor is amazing. I want to replicate their décor for my apartment. One drawback: My coffee wasn’t that great. I think the barista forgot to add hazelnut(I already took off without tasting it first because it was too hot) so my coffee wasn’t that great. However I will return here anyway just to have that funky coffeehouse in middle of nowhere. At least whenever I head up to Blackwater Falls. Note: This coffeehouse is actually in Davis, WVA, not Thomas. It is on Williams Ave, across from Nanny’s Bakery( )

Definitely an interesting place, and it seems they have even upgraded from when I visited at their previous location. All in all I it’s a good place. I’ve had very good coffee and espresso drinks here. I’d definitely recommend you stop in. But I can’t go more than 3 stars for two reasons: a) Cost realism. Last time I stopped in I ordered a two shot espresso drink and a fairly standard cookie — and it was a few cents shy of $ 10. I’ve no hesitation paying for quality, and I understand the pressures on a small business … but that would seem a bit pricey in NYC, let alone in these parts. b) it was slower than dirt last time. Part of it was due to a nice crowd in the place. But part of it seemed to be an inefficient layout in the prep area. The staff were working hard, but it still took 15 minutes or so to get my espresso drink with just a few people in line in front of me.

Note that Hypno Coff has move out of «downtown» Thomas and is now on Rt 32 between Thomas and Davis. Theyare frequented by all hte coolest folks of the area. The cappachino was great — a real surprise in the rural area. They are also a coffee roaster and have locally baked yummies.
