Let them eat cake has an amazing location, ambiance, and extremely creative cupcakes! They offer mini versions of the regular sized cupcakes if you just want a taste, and switch out their flavors quite often. There are vegan options as well to accommodate everyone with a sweet tooth. There are ice cream macaron sandwiches as well! This is my personal favorite spot in Davis and I think everyone should check it out.

I needed a cake for my buddy at Davis California on a short one day notice. I live in Chicago and i called and inquired how they can accommodate me. They took my order just right, they delivered it on time and my friend loved the pokeball cake. Just wanted to say that distance means nothing when it comes to GREAT customer service. Thank you guys for all you do!

I have to say I was incredibly disappointed. I was a long-standing regular of this bakery during my undergraduate years, and was probably its biggest fan. Over the last three years I have been living in Texas and the first thing I wanted to do during our visit to California was to visit my favorite cupcake shop. I don’t know what happened during the ownership shift, but they obviously did not retain some of the recipes that had made it so successful in the past. In fact, they have altered the recipes of some of the old favorites so much so that they are hardly recognizable and no longer taste like anything special. The dublinar(one of my husband’s old favorites) was dry and tasteless and none of that liquor flavor was noticeable. I could have probably gotten a better chocolate cupcake from Safeway. The other cupcakes I tried were overly sweet and the frosting was so gritty and sugary that it tasted like it had come out of a container you buy from the grocery store. Very very sad to have to write such a heartbreaking review from a place I loved so much throughout college. I hope that let them eat cake can find its way back to what had made them great.

As a cupcake fanatic, I was so excited to try this place, after reading all the other reviews. I loved the rustic feel to the place and when I saw all the cupcakes and the different flavors, I just wanted to try them all. We got 6 cupcakes in total, and I was so disappointed. The flavors were there, but all 6 cupcakes were so so dry. Some to the point where they were hard! I’m not sure if it was just an off day, or what, but I’m kind of skeptical about coming back. Maybe one day.

Probably would’ve had a better experience if the Employees were more friendly and helpful. There were 3 people on shift in an empty store and they seemed very distracted by their own conversation to help customers out. The guy that rang me up also seemed very unenthusiastic and annoyed. 3 stars because the cupcakes are very cute and nicely decorated.

Cute little place! It has a very homey feel to it. The vibe is so perfect for Davis! Coffee shop feel, with classic antiques, yet it’s also hip! The owners are super nice. They both are very passionate about baking, and ever since they took over the place early this year, I can tell they’re putting in hard work to make positive changes! The flavors that they offer are endless! They have their typical flavors that they keep around all the time, but what I love is that they also have flavors of the week. It keeps things interesting and sometimes they even have a theme, so it’s kind of fun to see what elements they used. They also can make any cupcake you want from their list online, so that’s cool just in case you want a particular one. They also do custom cakes for your own celebration so they’re seriously an all-in-one bakery! All in all, a great place to have downtown for college students and families alike!

While the cupcakes aren’t bad, they are over priced. However, this review is actually about a specialty birthday cake. My boyfriend took in some art work asking for it to be used to help decorate a cake for my birthday and we were both severely disappointed. All that was done was some simple piping to mimic the vines in the art work, which honestly could have been done at home by an amateur. The cake might taste okay(we actually haven’t cut it yet because we were so let down we’re going to give this one away and order a new one from somewhere else) but I could have got the same thing for half the price at Savemart. Also, I guess the chef who made the cake wasn’t in when my boyfriend picked it up, so there was no option to speak to them about the design. Come here for cupcakes, but don’t order a specialty cake.

Let Them Eat Cake is an ADORABLE bakery in Davis. I really enjoyed the red velvet cupcake and the salted caramel cupcake(don’t remember the clever names – too focused on good cupcakes) The inside is cozy and you can tell that it’s an old home that’s been turned into a bakery. With lots of seating and natural light I expect that this will be a great place to come by and study or catch up with some friends. I’ll be back!

The product is good but it just bugs me that the frosting covers about 50% of the top. Doesn’t just bug me– prevents me from buying it! Why doesn’t the frosting cover the whole cupcake? Makes the cake part dry out.

Stopped by one afternoon for some small treats for later in the day. We decided to go for two mini cupcakes: a Boston cream and a peanut butter. The cupcakes were pretty standard; Nothing bad but nothing special, just good cupcakes. I do have to mention that when we got there, there was a woman behind the counter that just kind of ignored us for a good while. I’m sure she knew we were there but she chose not to acknowledge us for a few minutes. Then she proceeded to ask what we wanted and we were still deciding so she awkwardly said she would make a drink while we were deciding. Then she asked another woman came and took our order which went fine. I probably won’t come back since there are other places that serve cupcakes and I won’t have to stand there feeling like i’m an intruder and feel like i have no right to ask for help or what i want. Gives me anxiety.

What an adorable little place! I fell in love with this place the minute I walked in. The smell of delicious cakes hits you right when you walk in the door. There are a couple of tables available for studying. The tables are really spread apart and the room is super spacious. It makes studying less stressful with no other students crowding their book and laptops around you. In terms of cakes, they have a bunch of different flavor, each with its unique spin. Some are the traditional cupcakes(i.e. red velvet, vanilla) but there are also the special ones like salted caramel, maple bacon, or even espresso or mocha flavored. But it really depends on the week, they change up the special flavored ones. They classic ones are always there though, if you’re not too daring. But don’t worry too much, all of them are equally delicious!

Wonderfully tasty desserts, especially the cupcakes. Baked to perfection! I enjoy the Cookie Monster because of my love for chocolate chip cookies, but all are delicious. The owner was also a sweetheart. Very enthusiastic and kind to customers. Make sure to check out their website for the daily deals! Great for college wallets.

I LOVEDLOVEDLOVED3 out of the 4(mini) cupcakes that I tried. However the vibe was very weird. I stood around for about 5 – 8 minutes while a guy slowly cleaned the coffee maker and a lady walked out from the back and looked at me and didn’t say two words. She then came over to me after talking to the coffee maker cleaner dude, but it was a weird interaction. I thought their food menu was a bit strange and when I asked about one of the options, the lady said she didn’t even make it… So why have it on the menu? I also thought it was very very wierd that they charged so much for the to-go box. I would probably go back if I had a sweet tooth and urge for some adorable minny cupcakes, but probably not for lunch.

After living in Davis for two summers, I would have to say my favorite place to study at is Let Them Eat Cake. These are my ultimate favorites: Scarlett(Red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting) – This is one of their classics. I love red velvet cake, and I would say this is probably the best tasting red velvet cupcake I’ve ever had. It’s not crazily sweet, and the flavor of the cocoa is just right. The cream cheese frosting is lovely and the cupcake is moist. I would eat 10 of these if I knew I weren’t going to develop diabetes in the long run. Rosebud(Rose water infused cake with vanilla cream cheese frosting) – My older sister loves rose-flavored food items, so she used to get this one often. Even though I usually don’t like rose as a food flavor, this cupcake tastes very pleasant. The vanilla cream cheese frosting brings out the rose flavor in a way that makes me like this cupcake! 21 Carrot(Carrot cake with raisins frosted with cream cheese) – My little sister loves carrot cake, so we also buy this cupcake often. The carrot flavor shines through and the raisins add the right chewy bit to this cupcake. I also really like carrot cake, and this place does their carrot cakes really well – not too sweet and true to the carrot flavor. I love the atmosphere of this bakery. They have vintage furniture and I feel so fancy sitting here studying. Love it! I want to come here for a tea party one day!

If you know me, then you know my absurd infatuation with cupcakes. And this place definitely did not disappoint. First of all, the décor in here is absolutely adorable. I loved the rustic, eclectic vibe. I was in Davis to study with a friend and I wish we had discovered this place sooner. Plenty of tables and outlets to go around. Now let me get to the main event. I ordered the Tirimi-So-So cupcake. I’m just going to quote the menu here because I won’t be able to do this slice of heaven justice: «Espresso chocolate cake filled with rum-infused custard topped with almond cream cheese frosting.» Um… #micdrop My friend and I were initially headed to the froyo place next door, but being the cake lover that I am, I immediately stopped in front of this place. I turned to my friend, checked Unilocal, and we walked right in. Best decision of the day.

Best cupcake place in Davis! I love ordering the Theo cupcake! The mocha frosting is absolutely delicious. The dubliner as well is pretty good. The frosting is lighter than most places and the cakes themselves aren’t dense which is always nice to have. This place is so cute when you enter! The décor is perfect and is reminiscent of a French café! Their loyalty program is always a perk! Make sure you mention it once you come by. The drawback that I find with this place is that it is overpriced, which is the only reason why I don’t come by too often.

I’ve really warmed up to this place. At first, I was a little put off by the Dirty Mug experience with my tea, but that has not been a problem since and honestly, my self employed /café working friends and I have not been able to find a better place to bunker down and work. The tables are huge, the wifi is dependable, the place is mostly empty, and we do enjoy the rotating special flavors they have for the cupcakes. I had a rose flavored one yesterday topped with a chèvre buttercream and I really regret not buying more. Great loyalty program too. You just mention their name and they keep track of all purchases. After 8 or so, I think you either get something free or for half off. No complaints here. I am coming in all the time.

Yes pleeeeasse LETMEEATTHESECAKES! This shop is adorable and has the cutest interior! The thing that I love the most about these little desserts were the frostings… Every frosting on each cake had such a perfect flavor that complimented the cake! As for the actual cake portion of the cupcake, some were very light and moist, while some wee just dry, crumbly and not desirable. I noticed the red velvet, cookie dough, and white cakes were all the moist ones and it was the chocolate cakes that were really dense and dry. My favorite cupcake is the Cookie Monster! The frosting is exactly like cookie dough… so freakin good! Another favorite would be the Paul Bunyan cake(buttermilk cake, maple frosting, and bacon), it was the fluffiest cake ever and the maple frosting and bacon went so well together. I wish I got more than a slice. My girlfriends favorite is the tres leche one, but I have yet to try it because their flavor a change monthly. They usually have tres leche on cinco de mayo so I will be back to try it in may! Despite the changing daily available flavors, they offer any flavors if you call beforehand to place an order for at least 1 dozen normal of one flavor or 3 dozen small of 1 flavor. If I can’t wait till may, then I may be ordering a dozen of the tres leches to try, hehe.

Such a cute little bakery. I got two cupcakes on my last visit: Down By The Sea(a vanilla cake with a salted caramel buttercream) and the Red Velvet(traditional red cake with cream cheese frosting). Both were yummy, but nothing spectacular. The red velvet was a bit too dense for my taste but their frosting was great, especially the salted caramel buttercream on the DBTS cupcake. Not a ton of seating inside, but I can’t imagine that really being an issue since most people just come in, point at their desired cupcake, then leave. It’s also really close to central park which would be a great place to sit and enjoy a cupcake anyway! I paid roughly $ 9 for three cupcakes, which is a bit pricey for the smallness of the cupcake and the local broke college kid demographic. When a cupcake craving hits, I may come back, but for now I’m not too sure I’d be willing to spend so much on their cupcakes.
