I went to Mikuni Sushi this evening with my girlfriend and had an excellent time. Despite it being a busy Saturday night and a graduation night at UC Davis, service was quick and the food was delicious. We had water and drinks within a few minutes and our food followed shortly after. Opting for the $ 45 for two, we had the crispy gyoza to start, which were excellent. The mixed tempura with shrimp and fresh vegetables were also good, I would have preferred them to be a little more fried, but good none the less. For our sushi rolls, we chose the spicy salmon roll and the Annie roll. The spicy salmon roll was nice, good flavor and the panko on top added a nice texture. However, it couldn’t compete with the Annie roll. The Annie roll was fresh, had excellent mixture of flavors from the fish and amazing sauce, and the contrasting texture of the crunchy cucumber to the softness of the rice and fish was fantastic. To finish the night we had the Xango cheesecake. This dessert was odd at first glance, but the second it touches your tongue it was heaven. The mild warmness of the tortilla and cheesecake was soothing and lifted the tanginess of the filling itself. The sauce accompanied with it provided just the right amount of sweetness and fruitiness. Overall it was a great first experience at Mikuni Sushi. I plan to return in the future, and I’ll be sure to recommend the restaurant to friends and family.

HONESTLY. only worth going for lunch specials/happy hour I’ve had my fair share of Japanese restaurants, and for the normal prices that they have at Mikuni’s it’s pretty ridiculous. It’s not worth paying full price because you will be disappointed. Don’t get me wrong the quality and everything is good, but if you’re gonna be paying a good $ 12-$ 20 for an entrée it better be of high quality and/or be filling. Not very authentic Japanese food, but it does the job if you’re craving it.

Excellent service as usual from the team at Davis mikuni’s. With Larry managing and Yao on the line, how could this visit go wrong.

I love mikuni! The fish is always fresh! It’s a little pricey, but there aren’t maybe good sushi places in davis. The happy hour is pretty good and the staff is always excellent

I decided to try Mikuni after always walking by and saying to myself«how the hell is there a wait at a restaurant in Davis?!» It’s four star Unilocal rating also enticed me but I’m leery of highly rated Davis spots… I think the people here have been exposed to so many bad restaurants in Davis that they’ve become habituated to mediocre food and have actually begun to enjoy it. Anywho, I started off with the edamame which was served cold. I was pretty surprised because I’ve been to many Asian restaurants and have always been served warm edamame. Not sure I like the cold version of them. They also didn’t have any salt on them which I assumed was the typical way to prepare them. For my meal, I ordered the chicken teriyaki, which was mistake number one at a place known for its sushi. It was served on a plate with a sad looking salad and a bowl of rice. The chicken had teriyaki sauce drizzled on it and did not look appealing. It also wasn’t cooked all the way through and had a weird taste to it. The rice wasn’t too offensive. The chicken teriyaki meal was $ 13.50 which was pretty overpriced for what you got. Definitely not worth it at all. The service was pretty slow and we were trying to flag down the waiter for a good portion of our time. To conclude, I don’t think I’ll be returning to Mikuni.

Best. Sushi. Ever! My family and I wanted to go to a sushi place– not too fancy or too casual, and this was the perfect place. The rolls were all equally amazing, and service was great. All the rolls were cut very thin which I prefer in sushi, and it didn’t fall apart easily which made it easy to eat(and yummy of course)! Also, I’m not a fan of udon soup so I was a bit skeptical but I became a fan quickly at my first bite. They were very generous with their noodles! It was very busy since it was Mother’s Day, but they were fairly quick with our orders which I appreciated. I wish I remembered the name of our waitress because she was so sweet! I will definitely be visiting Davis again for Mikunis.

Mikuni is hands down one of my favorite restaurants in Davis. If you want delicious food at a reasonable price in an upscale atmosphere, Mikuni is the place to go. Since Davis has a lot of sushi buffets, Mikuni may feel really pricey, but the quality of the foods prepared are top-notch. I really enjoyed the BMW roll, the pepperfin, and especially the beef curry! I probably get the curry 90% of the time. If it’s your birthday and you’re a member of their Koki rewards program, you get a free dessert! Not to mention, you can spin the wheel for a prize if it’s within 2 days of your birthday. So theoretically, you could go to Mikuni for 5 days straight when your birthday approaches!

This sushi bar/restaurant is pretty bomb. I love the tuna here, as it tastes fresh. Mikuni is possibly the best sushi restaurant in Davis, though that really doesn’t say much, as most of the sushi bars here are buffets. Prices are reasonable for what you get. I recommend going to their happy hour if you are really looking for a deal. They do have alcohol here, as well, which is a plus. Parking is in the back. The restaurant itself has an upscale/trendy atmosphere to it, which makes it a solid option to celebrate a special night here, or take someone special here. All in all, I do recommend giving this place a try. There really aren’t that many better options in the area when it comes to quality sushi.

Mikuni is the best! Very trendy atmosphere, nice outside seating, and great lunch specials. Any time my mom is in town, we make the 45 minute drive to get our Mikuni fix. We split the Sushi Illustrated Combo($ 15.50) and a bento box($ 11.50 I believe). It is SO delicious and more than enough food.

I have been coming to Mikuni since the first week I arrived at Davis. It’s my go-to restaurant whenever my boyfriend and I feel like going on a dinner date. In fact, our Koki Card is at around 1000 points($ 1 = 1 point) and we have never ordered alcohol before. If we’ve spent $ 1000 on sushi here, you better believe we love it. The staff here has always been incredibly kind and patient. They know the menu well, so if you tell them what flavors you’re looking for(i.e. I’m looking for something spicy & crunchy), they can give you recommendations straight off the bat. Furthermore, if you have any special accommodations needed, they are very patient as well. As for the food, it has never been a disappointment. The ingredients used are fresh and aesthetically pleasing. They also have a decent vegetarian menu, which is surprisingly good news for any vegetarian sushi-lovers. Overall, I love Mikuni! Will definitely continue returning throughout my four years here at Davis. :)

The quality of the fish here is really good and fresh but the portion is really small :( Came here for lunch with my bf for Saturday lunch. We were surprised they had lunch specials on a weekend. Nonetheless, when we saw Chirashi and sashimi combo(our go to dishes at sushi places) we had to get it. Both dishes were very similar but the Chirashi had more variety of fish and it came with cold rice while the sashimi combo had less variety but more quantity of fish and warm rice. The sashimi pieces were really small and thin compared to other places I’ve been. If even say that it’s the thinnest and smallest cuts I’ve ever had but the quality was on point. The portion size was kinda small so we didn’t feel full at the end of the meal. It might’ve been because it was a lunch special. But $ 16 each for Chirashi and sashimi combo is pretty cheap!

I went to mikuni a lot. I wouldn’t say every time I went I had good time. But if you right order the right thing, the food is def amazing. There are couple dishes I really wanna recommend: 1. Benjamin roll, crunch shrimp tempura inside, green jalapeño on top with glazed smoked tuna. Lots of flavors are going on in one mouth once you took a bite 2. Tommy’s roll. Instead of using seaweed wrap, they used some pink skin. I don’t know what it is, but it tastes like cotton candy and smells like cherry blossom. Spicy creamy but refreshing. 3. Sea steak. 4. Chirashi don is amazing too. The sashimi is fresh. But there aren’t many choice of meat in the dish. 5.unagi don. So it’s a grilled eel with rice! I would recommend to go early cuz it gets busy! If you go on your birthday, you can spin the wheel to get a prize. Enjoy the mikuni!

A pretty basic sushi option that is a prevalent chain around Sac area. The fish I’ve tried here is just ok, and the food generally is overpriced. I tried the tuna sashimi appetizer and also had a chicken udon bowl. The appetizer had minimal amounts of fish and the fish didn’t taste that great. For the udon, there was very little chicken meat and very little flavor. I also tried a few pieces of my friends’ individual rolls but they weren’t very memorable. For very Americanized sushi(which apparently most of Davis likes) this is the place to go, but there are a lot of better smaller places to go and even sushi buffet that is better quality than here.

One of my favorite chain restaurants. In Davis, especially, there’s not many good seafood restaurants because of the obvious reason– there isn’t a nearby body of water we can obtain our fish from. Therefore, you should expect most seafood restaurants inland of California, ie. Davis, to be pretty mediocre. Mikuni’s is definitely an exception. Their sushi is one of my favorites and because of this I refuse to eat sushi anywhere else in Davis, especially! As a UCD student, I’ve been here plenty of times and the rolls I recommend are Pimp My Roll and any roll that has eel on top like the Una Cali roll. Relaxed atmosphere paired with delicious sushi is a place you can’t miss. Don’t forget their dessert menu too! My suggestions? Lava cake or sweet dream! Their prices are a bit expensive, especially for a college student, but its flexible, fun atmosphere is enough that you can dress the place up or down whether going out with friends or treating yourself to quick yet satisfying meal. Besides the sushi rolls, my favorite thing about Mikunis is their beverage selection. I’ve never been more inclined to try out all the alcoholic drink options they put on the menu, especially the specials! Their wide variety, again, gives Mikunis that flexible atmosphere depending on what kind of night/day yoie having. If you’re visiting or family is stopping by and the craving is for sushi, I would recommend this place without a doubt.

From my last review you can read that I do enjoy Mikunis a lot. I’ve always enjoyed my food but everything else has been weird here, especially on my last visit. I always get the dinner combo with the two appetizers/starters, two rolls, and a dessert. It’s a great deal BUT they always make the eating experience weird for us. Every time I’ve ordered this they’ll bring out all the food at once. Sometimes I’ll receive my rolls before my appetizers. What’s the point of an appetizer if I receive it alongside my main dish? This may come down to preference but come on it just defeats the purpose of the whole progression of the meal. Appetizers first then main then dessert. But not here. Maybe you wouldn’t mind all your food coming out at once? But I like to have some excitement and anticipation with my food. Plus the tables are so small and we’re overwhelmed with tons of food. Also we sat at the bar this last time and throughout the entire meal we could smell bleach and other cleaning products. I appreciate the efforts to be clean but the fumes were really strong. Our bartender was nice and took great care of us. But when I asked for a spoon for my miso soup, he just put it straight in my bowl rather than setting it down. Weird. Just weird. Kinda makes me not want to return which is sad.

I heard a lot of great things about Mikuni so I decided to check it out for dinner. For appetizers I had the grilled tuna and grilled asparagus. I proceeded to get a salmon chirashi and a sashimi platter. The only complaint I have are the slices are quite thin. I’m use to thick slices at other Japanese restaurants. I told the waiter not to include octopus on my sashimi platter but we ended with it anyway. I can’t stand octopus cuz it’s so hard to chew and its flavorless. The only thing I really liked were the appetizers. The service was really good but the thinly sliced sashimi earned them a 3 star.

Mikuni is definitely one of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve gone to to get nigiri and sushi rolls. I wouldnt suggest getting anything else here other than sushi. This place is a bit too pricey for rice bowls or bentos. This place is pricey in general, but you get what you pay for. Their sashimi is very fresh and well cut. They dont stuff your nigiris and sushi rolls with rice, very generous on the raw ingredients. I recommend the following: * Chirashi donburi $ 20 * Japanese Mafia rolls $ 14 * Incredible rolls $ 14 * any selections of their nigiri $ 5/2pc Ambience can be quite loud at night because they have a bar area, plenty of seatings, nice outside patio too. There is a private parking lot, so parking is not a problem and if its your birthday, bring your id and you get to spin the wheel fortune! Cheers!

I’ve been here a few times and get a fairly consistent experience. The service is nice. The décor is ok and the restaurant is clean. The food is pretty good. Not mind blowing«the fish is so fresh it melts in mouth like butter» kinda thing. The rolls have a LOT of sauce on it typically which is not my favorite but a lot of people like it. Any of the rice bowls are, again, ok. Good flavor but a loooot of rice(about 2⁄3 to ¾ rice to meat and veggie ratio). They have some specials on monitors and other adult beverages which taste good but are low on alcohol content(small pour). It might be worth it to come for a your birthday since they have a giveaway! They do check ID though so be sure it’s either day of or two days before/after. Would I come here again? Meh. It’s ok. Maybe for another birthday for free stuff but for Japanese food I’ll stick to Huku or banzai.

Happy hour! Difficult to get two sushi meals for under $ 40, but we managed to get two large meals WITH a non-alcoholic beverage(calm down… I drove) AND an alcoholic beverage for under $ 40AFTER tax!!! That we did, and I am fairly full. Granted, most of it was not what people identify as «authentic» sushi, but it was delicious(so the authenticity cry is irrelevant) and once again, I am full. Happy hour prices push my rating up to 5 stars.

There’s just something about udon; you can switch any noodle for udon and the dish tastes fine, good, sometimes better. Or maybe I’m just an udon fanatic. Either way, there’s one thing only that keeps me coming back to splurge on Mikuni’s food – the Musolino pasta. Yes, it is a pretty simple dish that probably doesn’t cost as much to make as it is to order, but that’s never stopped me. There’s just something about the combination of the prawns, onions and oil on udon that fits so perfectly with my taste pallet. And since we’re already here, why not just get the 2 for $ 45 deal and make it a full course meal?(One entrée, two sushi rolls, 1 appetizer and 1 desert at your choice for $ 45 dollars!) Four stars because a lot of the dishes simply aren’t worth how much you’re paying; other Japanese restaurants in the vicinity can fulfill my chicken teriyaki or tempura roll cravings for a cheaper price. However, there are some pretty innovative dishes and appetizers that you don’t find at other places as much. Aside from a great atmosphere and service, if you’re on a college student budget like me, I’d definitely recommend coming here for the 2 for 45 deal once in a while after a great midterm or just a simple celebration.
