I am a relatively new to growing plants. These guys were really helpful and patient, and their selection was diverse and robust. I think I’ll be stopping by often.

This place a really nice place to get your plants! My friend I were trying to make our first terrariums and we didn’t really know much other than watching YouTube videos to see how. We came to this place with a jar and no knowledge of how exactly to make it. The people who work there really know their stuff. They suggested what to add to the jar, and suggested the different kinds of plants that we should buy based on the location of our house that we were going to put them in. We ended up getting charcoal, potting soil, then bought some rocks from Ace nearby. I love my terrarium and everything costed exactly the same price as the jar, which in my opinion is a great deal. Although, the charcoal and the potting soil could be bought for cheaper at Ace, this mom and pop deserved the extra dollar! Thank you! And shout out to Maggie for helping us!

Nice little nursery. No customer service. Both girls seating in front of a computer didn’t even bother to get up and greet or ask if I needed help. More helpful at Walmart.

Mixed experience. I’ve purchased many plants over the years that I’ve lived in Davis. Their plants are excellent quality – top shelf, for sure. On earlier visits, years ago, customer service was good. Friendly staff was helpful and present in the yard. Recently, my staff experience has gone dramatically downhill. As I’ve wandered the yard, pacing for a half hour or more, either no staff is even outside(instead staying behind the counter) or, when they are outside, they have not even acknowledged my presence much less asked to assist me. When I’ve asked for specific plants, I’ve simply been told they don’t have it. In the past, the staff was always helpful in ordering what I was looking for. I’m not sure what has changed in terms of the way the nursery is staffing, but the experience of shopping at this nursery is no longer fun and most often I walk out with nothing but disappointment. Though I prefer supporting small, local businesses, I think I’ll do my shopping at ACE or drive into Sac for my nursery shopping in the future. The staff doesn’t seem to want my business anyway.

Big fan of this nursery and its owner. Don Shor has helped me so much over the years with great advice and an understanding of horticulture that is rarely matched. I’m not even a local and this fella has helped me on so many occasions I can’t even recount them all. Thanks Don!

You can’t miss the red barn on the road with a small nursery. I have to agree with Michael K that the prices were definitely not obvious and it felt more like a boutique nursery versus something more like Navlets in Pleasant Hill. Still, I was able to find broccoli and swiss chard to plant before the season is over for us here in San Francisco, although I wasn’t able to find a correct planter for it.

Sometimes, I can find a plant at Redwood Barn that I can’t find anywhere else in town. The plants here come from top shelf nurseries. I’ve had very good luck with everything I’ve purchased here. Finding a parking space can be a real challenge, even with a subcompact. I usually end up parking on the street in front of the tire store.

A red zone is not a loading zone! My car has been hit twice because of their unlawful behavior. I will be contacting the county to repaint the curb because obviously its not red enough for them.

This is the third nursery that I’ve gone to in my venture to building my new veggie garden. As a novice gardener, I had tons of questions and concerns. Of all the nurseries I’ve gone to, this one is by far the friendliest and most willing to offer advice and their expertise. The gentleman there spent at least 20 minutes with me to discuss the pros and cons of different plant varietals and techniques to improve the success of my future garden. Neither of the other two nurseries were as eager and willing to spend that amount of time with me and neither seemed to care for the success of my garden. The gentleman at Redwood Barn Nursery offered himself to any future questions and even suggested bringing in leaves or soil from any plants that I may have any struggle with to help aid in any issues. You can tell that the people here really want you to have success. I will definitely come back. Great service and quality care.

On my afternoon bike ride, I was canvasing Davis for houseplants and homewares. It was nice to be outside as opposed to racing toward SF per my usual Friday afternoon schedule. Redwood Barn Nursery reminds me of the garden stores I used to frequent in Santa Cruz. It has a well maintained and nicely arrayed selection of veggies, herbs, organics, natives, and drought resistant plants outside. A variety of cacti, succulents, and ground covers also line the gravel paths that twist around the small yard. I tried not to get distracted outside and made my way inside to find the houseplants. They’re tucked away upstairs and seem like an afterthought. The selection isn’t great and compared to the vibrant healthy plants outside, I felt like I was in a grandma’s dusty houseplant attic. The employees ranged from friendly to less than friendly when I was discussing what I was looking for. In the end, I took my business elsewhere, but I would consider returning for outdoor plants.
