I used to patronize the UC Davis Bookstore frequently to buy art supplies when I was a student. I went there recently because I did not think it worthwhile to drive to Sacramento merely to procure a handful of pencils and erasers. When I got to the parking structure, I realized that I had but one quarter to feed the meter. So, being that I only had 10 minutes to find more quarters, I ran to the store to get some more. I walked right up to the register that was without a customer in sight and the girl at the register didn’t even acknowledge me. Being the gentleman that I am, I gave her a moment to gain her composure, to ready herself to provide the excellent customer service that I was sure she was capable of providing. Alas, it never came. Now, dear reader, bear in mind that I was standing about 2 feet from this girl, and she was looking straight ahead. I stood there like a schoolboy sitting outside the principals office. After what seemed like an eternity, she said«I can help you over here.» You cannot imagine my delight. However, the celebration was short-lived. She was, in fact, speaking to the young man who had, only then, walked up behind me and stood by a mysterious blank square of cardboard on a post. Out of curiosity, I walked to the other side of this blank piece of cardboard, and what, to my wonder, should appear, but a SIGN that indicated that there was, indeed, a designated spot to stand. Now, I admit, in my haste, I overlooked that there is a designated waiting area. However, there were no other customers around, and the sign points the other direction.(If only there was a way to make a two-sided sign!!) Now, here is the moment you’ve been gritting your teeth for: mere seconds after stepping on the other side of that sign, a smiling young woman in the employ of this establishment cheerfully acknowledged me and called me over for service! Huzzah! So, the moral of the story: when patronizing the UC Davis Bookstore, mind the signs and obey the rules, and your unfortunate malady of invisibility will dissipate, allowing for swift and enthusiastic service. And p. s., in case you were wondering, when I got back to my car, I had exactly 17 seconds left of my original quarter. Just in the nickel of time! So, after feeding the meter with quarters galore, I was able to take my time shopping. And when I was ready to make my purchase, I felt a confidence approaching the counter, and I stood firm with the knowledge that my previous disregard for proper protocol had been thoroughly corrected and that my desire to expedite the checkout process would be satisfied with a swiftness and enthusiasm I was only able to imagine on my previous interaction.

Ahh the memorial store, we’ve shared so many memories. On our way to Sac the other day, my friends and I decided to cruise through Davis and relive our glory days. When we saw the bookstore downtown, we HAD to stop by. It was so much fun just looking through all the logo gear and seeing what has changed/hasn’t changed. I have to give this place 5 stars for one reason and one reason only: they didn’t kick us out. HAHA we were like kids in a candy store… loud, obnoxious, flipping through all the stuff. After maybe 20 minutes of perusing, I bought a lanyard. Yup, that’s it – a new lanyard for my keys. The cashier didn’t even bat an eye, though he did smirk at us a bit. ANDHEWASSOAWESOME, he let us see the new UCD ids(because yes, I still carry mine from 2004, thank you very much. Gives me $ 1 off movies, so hrmph!). Anyway, 5 stars for the trip down memory lane!

The bookstore is a great place to shop since there aren’t many shopping centers near Davis(before Forever21) came to Davis of course. The clothing is pretty pricey, but since it’s branded with the UCDavis name and logo it’s expected. The quality of the clothes are very well made. As for books, and other school necessities, it is overly priced. you can shop online for cheaper books and school items, but if you want something with the UCDavis logo for family, friends or loved one, the UCDavis store is the place to go. They also have another store in downtown, Davis with more clothes and other necessities. Also remember to check their website for any sales going on during the month.

Ahhh, the Bookstore! The place to get pretty much almost everything! Literally, if you need a pencil, they have plenty, from cheap 10¢ eraser-less mini pencils to really expensive pencils of high quality. If you need some, they sell scantrons of any kind by the thousands! If you need anything, here’s the place! It’s also the place to get UC Davis branded stuff! There are hoodies, sweats, pens, notebooks, keychains, lanyards, license plate frames, olive oil, olive oil lipbalm, sun dried tomatoes, etc. Anything you can probably think of that a student needs is probably UCD branded. A lot of what the bookstore sells is pretty expensive. Especially the hoodies(in the $ 40 – 60 range…). But if you check the back of the little blue weekly agenda, there are some coupons for 20−25% off hoodies! I also try to get school supplies elsewhere due to the price but the bookstore is so convenient. haha Plus, I love the UCD branded stuff. I’m such a UCD fanatic. I love this school! Main floor is usually apparel, cookware, school supplies, books, etc, etc. Downstairs in the basement is where they sell textbooks. Textbooks… expensive… There is also a Clinique area for your lotion and makeup needs and the TechHub for all your computer needs. Pretty cool. When paying at the cash register, you can pay with with your ID card and the fees go to your student account for you to pay later. This place is so darn handy.
