I can’t really review a place that isn’t open. What a shame. Paper sign on door said open Saturday and Wednesday limited hours. If only there were a big U.S. owned cycling company that had deep pockets and wanted a nice marketing experience that they could write off.

Shame on the US Bicycling Hall of Fame! Why move to this location if you aren’t going to honor and maintain it? No plaques, not even a list of inductees, for the last 5 years! Precious little info on all but a few honorees prior to that. Everything needed dusting and sweeping. We had to seek out someone to pay. Lots of people enter, but only to use the public restroom. This is not what I expected in the Bicycle Capital of America.

There is a lot to like about the US Bicycling Hall of Fame, but maybe not enough to justify the price of admission. I’ve been a few times, and always had a good time, but for some reason I can’t bring myself to pay for it. There is a truly fantastic collection of bikes from all points in the history and development of the machine, from early Boneshakers to modern race bikes. It is fun to walk through the museum and trace the evolution of the concept. Most amazingly of all, while the bikes of today may seem worlds apart, if you look closely the idea has remain largely unchanged in a hundred years. Refinement of the concept maybe, but that’s all. Not to mention, some big names in the bike world come through here to give talks, Craig Calfee and Jacquie Phelan to same a few. Maybe it is worth paying the admission price, come to think of it.

What a treat to have such biking memorabilia, historical recap and biking epicenter on the West Coast… in our very own ‘Bike Capital of the World’, as Davis has always self proclaimed. Right on the main corner of the Farmers Market/Central Park… perfect. 3rd and B, easy to find. Hours match the Farmer’s Market hours… even better! Wednesdays 4pm — 8pm Saturdays 10am — 2pm
