Yolo Basin Foundation

This place is great! I came here as part of a school field trip with my daughter. The volunteers and staff were amazing! They know the area, with its plants and animals, like it is their own backyard. They were friendly, easy to talk to, knowledgeable and informative. I’m looking forward to bringing my family back there again.

The Yolo Basin Foundation is a great resource, especially if you have children or are interested in learning about the species native to the area. I went on the Bat Walk & Talk last summer, a very popular tour about bats, and had a blast. The tour started in the Yolo Basin Foundation building, where we saw a video about bats and were shown a live bat. Then, we took a caravan to an area beneath the Causeway at dusk. If you have a 4-​wheel drive vehicle, I would recommend coming in it. The Foundation has a couple multi-​passenger vehicles to take some of the group, but not everyone. Once at the area beneath the Causeway, you wait for the bugs to come out. Then, the bats emerge. It’s a great way to learn about bats and to take some cool pictures. I highly recommend this tour. Dress in layers and be sure to reserve your spot early on the Yolo Basin Foundation website.
