Oh Zias, why has it taken me so long to review you? Great service, fresh ingredients, yum. This family owned business gets my vote for consistently great sandwiches. My picky son loves the Viareggio(sp?) turkey/cheese with pesto mayo. He orders from there so often they know him by order! My favorite is the Livorno — fresh mozzarella/tomato/basil. The Phil’s special is not on the menu but is what my husband orders — no clue what’s involved here but he loves it and I’m sure there’s plenty of meat involved. Prices are also very reasonable.

Went in and explained my wife had allergies to chili peppers and they would need to avoid cross-contact. Whill paying, I saw the sandwich maker making the sandwich directly on the counter-top and asked the person running the register if that could cause issues. He agreed and asked the person making the sandwich to redo it. I took it home, wife ate a couple of bites and discovered she had put pepper jack cheese in it. There is no way this was anything else but kitchen sabotage. Wife had to go on steroids for a week and get an epipen.

The other day I stopped by this place, I was craving a very freshly made sandwich. I have been here many times before and most of the time I get my order correctly. I tried a new kind of Sandwich from what I’m used to and I asked specifically for the wheat bread. They made my sandwich and I left cause they were closing otherwise I would have stayed. Opening my sandwich and to my surprise she made it with white bread, not to good for my diabetes. Too bad, the deliciousness was there but wrong kind of bread. Oh well it happens! If you want something tasty, come and get It here. ^_^

LOVELOVELOVE! My BF and I were passing through and really wanted an Italian deli sandwich. We were warmly welcomed by the employees and the owner. So sweet! We were so pleased with everything we ordered. Definitely try the affogato

Best damn sandwiches! Always great when I have an upset stomach. Love their soft rolls, turkeys, and meatball subs. mmmm. so good. The only downside to this place is the owner. I feel bad for the staff for having to work with that guy. You can tell he sets a bad vibe whenever he’s around cuz his workers aren’t smiling.

Best sandwich in davis! It’s always packed and everyone is so friendly. There is a nice seating area outside with a cat that comes to greet you while you eat! I recommend the Milano. Soooo tasty!

There were only about five sandwich combinations on the board, and none included ham. They should figure about a way to put another 5 – 10 other combos up, or maybe put them on the printed menu. I created my own ham and cheese sandwich. The sandwich toppings included mayo, mustard, pickles, onions, lettuce, and tomato. The bread was good and easy to chew into, and the ingredients completed the package. Though Zia’s is an Italian deli, they should have regular, cheap-ish bottled water. Instead, they only have«fancy» San Benedetto bottled water. Also, I wasn’t a huge fan of their Black and Whites. Instead of shipping them in frozen from a bakery in the Bronx, they should find a place nearby and have them delivered fresh daily.

Ordered a Verreggio on sourdough slices. Soft and fresh sourdough, good tomatoes, overall yummy sandwich. Wish I would have asked for extra pesto mayo, it’s amazing! Inside it’s super cute. Looks like an east coast Italian deli.

Walked in to here one day with hubby and decide to pick up a sandwich for me for my lunch for the next day. It was about 10 minutes to close, and we felt really bad that we were coming so late, but the worker there said it was OK for us to order even though they had cleaned up everything. I had ordered a Siena Sandiwch which comes with Rosemary prosciutto cotto, fresh mozzarella, basil, oil and vinegar on a ciabatta roll. I had to customize my sandwich because I wasn’t eating any gluten, so I had it lettuce wrapped and I’m lactose intolerant so no cheese but I did double the meat. Even though the sound sound like much but it was really for sandwich and they give you quite a bit to eat, it’s a great quality cheese and meat. The employees are very courteous and very helpful to any questions you have about the menu. They also have other grocery items to sell that are Italian influence and they even have gelato there. Overall great experience highly recommend and definitely will be back again.

I ordered the Viareggio, turkey/mozzarella/pesto mayonnaise/lettuce/tomato/red onion! After someone’s tip, I asked the sandwich artist to warm up the turkey and cheese! PROS: Employees are very courteous and helpful. The french roll bread is so soft, but not tooo soft! It felt like they just made the bread!!! And the turkey tasted so fresh! And the pesto mayo was to die for!!! CONS: I didn’t know whether to leave the tray on the table or not haha! There’s also only a few tables, so I imagine during their peak hours, they get filled up pretty quick! OVERALL, I would deeeefinitely come back! God bless the Viareggio!!!

Stopped by Zia’s for lunch with friends while back in Davis for a buddy’s graduation. It’s still a quality spot those looking for something a bit different, but not too crazy with new flavors. They have their own specialty sandwiches, hot sandwiches, and paninis as well as a make your own option. Zia’s also serves as a small Italian grocery store with a bunch of different meat, cheese, sweets, and premade meals that you can buy to bring home. In terms of food, I usually get the Toscana which is a simple salame, peppercinis, provolone, oil and vinegar sandwich. The peppercinis balance smoothly with the flavorful salami, and I really like simple flavors in sandwiches. I always get a Pellegrino with my sandwich and it comes out to around nine bucks. The Lucca also seems to be popular amongst my friends if you’re more of a turkey person. Overall, I would totally recommend it for a quality lunch. It is only open until 6pm most days so it’s not ideal for late night eats. If I had only 5 words to review it I would say: Pleasant, authentic, and worth it.

Fellow vegetarians(who still eats cheese) get their Livorno Sandwich. You can choose your type of bread(french, crunch, sour dough, wheat etc.) and Livorno $ 7 comes with: * Fresh Mozzerella * Tomatoes * Basil * option of olive oil, salt and pepper. It doesn’t sound like much, but their sandwich is probably the freshest sandwich I ever had. You can tell from your first bite of this sandwich that they use great quality cheese and produce. The tomatoes were crunchy like cucumbers. Is that even possible? I don’t know where they get their tomatoes from. And the Basil aroma is very inviting you to finish the whole sandwich. It is quite pricey for a sandwich, but again I honestly think the quality of their ingredients is to die for. Cheers!

I’ve been told this place had the best sandwiches, and I’ve always loved a good sandwich. The reviews my friends and other people left added to the excitement, so I finally decided to try it. Being in Davis for a while, I’ve never noticed this place, small little deli restaurant. The viareggio seem to be a heavy favorite here, so that’s exactly what I got. It did not disappoint! I’m not a big fan of turkey, but it tasted great in this sandwich! They give you a good amount of meat, unlike other places they give you 2 slices. The veggies were fresh, and the bread, soft. I love soft bread on a sandwich, not the kind you have to crew and battle your way through. The best part. the pesto mayo. It gave the sandwich that extra flare, delicious! At the end of the day, it was just a sandwich. I wasn’t blown away like I thought I’ll be but I’m definitely a fan! Highly recommended!

The Viareggio, thanks to all the Unilocal reviews, was the sandwich I tried! I’m incredibly happy that I decided to drop by and order this sandwich! It was absolutely delicious. From the pesto mayo, to the smoked mozzarella and the turkey, it was all incredibly delicious. The customer service here is awesome! They explained the menu and my options which was very helpful. Also, the interior is so perfect! So many Italian goodies and sweets. Can’t wait to come back for another try! :)

Probably my favorite sandwich deli in Davis. It’s small and quaint venue, but so rich in what it has to offer. I didn’t get to shop around much, but I believe they sold a variety of sauces, oils, and cheeses? Don’t quote me on that… I’ll have to go back and check, but I do know they had a mini market section in there. I had the Lucca sandwich with pesto mayo, and it was bomb! I can’t wait to go back. Am I overdoing it if I go two days in a row?

‘Heard quite a bit of praise for Zias from a number of people… I was really looking forward to having lunch here after hearing about how great the sandwiches were. Zias Delicatessen is a quaint neighborhood deli, well lit, nice color scheme(light woods, warm w/earth tone accents), well organized, and clean.(Thumbs up) Photo — Before, I continue let me start by asking, «What deli runs out of bread at 3pm in the afternoon… ‘AND ice too?! What gives?»(That’s like a sushi bar running out of rice!) ‘Not the first impression I was expecting but despite a couple of standard staple items being MIA, I still gave them a try. The service was fine, the young lady that took my order was helpful, answered a few of my basic, «First time here,» round of questions, she even suggested trying their popular, Viareggio Sandwich. Well, when in Rome! The order — Viareggio: Turkey, smoked mozzarella cheese, Zito’s pesto mayonnaise, lettuce, and tomato(Only soft rolls available) $ 6.50 — «Alright»; basic sandwich; fair portions Photo — Iced Mocha(sans ice) $ 2.65 — «Okay»; would’ve been better if they had ice Photo — ‘And all for about under $ 10. Overall, okay.(Shrugs) ‘Nothing amazing, just alright… Albeit, the Viareggio had fair portions, it was pretty much a basic, standard sandwich that one can pick up @ any decent sandwich shop. The pesto-mayonaisse was its saving grace BUT then again, you can spread pesto on just about anything, fold in a little mayo, and make stale, day old toast, taste good… So, I thought, «Is this it?» Is this the deli that so may people have been pitching to me as «Awesome!»(Sigh) I was hoping for so much more… ‘Like a choice of bread, maybe even some ice? Outside seating — It seems that the majority of people are fans, cooI! It’s always great to see privately owned shops getting the support of the locals. However, I just did not find it to be «The place,» that so many people made Zias out to be… ‘An okay sandwich @ an okay price and there you go, «Tah-dah!»(Sound of a single person clapping) It’s not bad by any means, nor is it «Knock your socks off,» amazing… It’s just alright. — Big Aloha! I honestly hate myself for not trying this place until my last year of college!!! I’ve heard about how amazing it was from my friends but I just didn’t think a sandwich place in Davis would live up to the hype. and BOYWAS I WRONG! I remember taking a bite of my sandwich and instantly regretting not trying this place earlier. The sandwiches are SOOOGOOD — the ingredients are so fresh and everything on the sandwich just goes so perfectly with each other. After eating it that day, I’ve come back so many times already because I crave it so much! The one thing that stands out to me about this place is their pesto-mayo. Make sure to get in on your sandwich if it doesn’t already come with it :) My go-to order is the Viareggio on a soft roll(this bread is amazing too!!!). I definitely recommend it if you like turkey. It’s a simple yet amazingly delicious, fresh-tasting sandwich. I usually replace the mozzarella with provolone but that’s just a personal preference; the sandwich tastes amazing no matter what. The Lucca is another popular sandwich here — I personally have never tried it, but my friend gets it all the time and he loves it! I think I’ve used the word ‘amazing’ one too many times in this review but I honestly just don’t know how else to describe Zia’s. This place is a must try for anyone that lives in or passes through Davis!

What a quaint place-it’s a small sandwich shop that looks like a mini-butcher shop with all these European snacks on shelves in the corner, two small fridges of refreshments, chips near the cash register, small desserts in the glass displays, and a concise menu of the sandwiches on the wall facing the entrance(you can order pre-arranged sandwich choices OR you can create your own). I’ve only tried the meatball sandwich(which I think is quite delicious)! There isn’t much space inside to dine, but sitting outside under the umbrella-protected tables is nice!

The best sandwich joint in Downtown Davis! Zias not only makes incredible sandwiches but also offers a variety of Italian delicacies and desserts. Craving some Straciatella Ice Cream or some Tiramisu? Zias has it all! Coffee(for Espressos), pastas, sauces, oils, and other imported Italian snacks and sweets can be found here as well. My favorite sandwiches, so far: + Lucca(with turkey, prosciutto, & monterey jack cheese) + Viareggio(with turkey, mozzarella, and pesto) Pesto and Turkey is and will always be a great combination for almost anything in my opinion. The sandwiches are relatively big. For approximately $ 5 – 6, my tummy was happy and I felt pretty content and full. Quality ingredients, creamy sauces/condiments, fresh meant, crisp vegetables, and some good bread. I recommend getting the Hard Crust Roll(sourdough) for your sandwiches. I just appreciate the added crunchiness and texture of the crust. Just like a baguette… almost. Oh, and try the desserts and get some bottled sodas! I have yet to try some of their panini. The Grilled Prosciutto Panino does sound really appetizing right now… Service? Really friendly and accommodating!

Nice, fresh tasting sandwiches. I had the Viareggiano aka turkey pesto. It was simple but the turkey tasted like real meat as opposed to the processed stuff and there was lots of it. I would have liked to find some veggies like tomato & onion but most of the menu choices were meat-oriented. I suppose I should have customized. The REAL winner of the meal was my honey vanilla cream soda. The Wisconsin crafted soda was out of this world foodie goodness and I don’t usually mess with sodas. They had a few other varieties which I intend to try as well. Do yourself a favor and try it(located in the side fridge in the left).
