I’ve been waiting for the grand opening of the Davison Farmers Market all winter, and it did not disappoint! Porter’s Orchard has a booth there, with the cider slushee machine that is so dear to my heart. Knob Hill Meats, with the best turkey jerkey there ever was or ever will be. Frozen whitefish patties from … Bay Port? Not sure if that’s the correct name, but those were tasty take home dinners. Not one, but TWO(maybe three?!) maple syrup stands. The Farmers Market bakery with their mouth-wateringly delicious croissants. And of course, mountains of fresh produce, fresh flowers — even an outdoor set up with fresh juices! Probably the two most surprising finds in the market were the boss Middle Eastern take-out counter and a legit cupcakery. I ate at both, and am a better, fatter person for it. The Green Olive Tree, oh man. I saw the shwarma meat and immediately knew what my lunch would be. Seasoning was so very perfect, meat was tender, and the garlic sauce was intensely spicy, in the way that only fresh garlic is. Also, as an added bonus, they have my ABSOLUTE favorite M.E. side dish. Sfeeha(though on the menu it is labeled as just«meat pie») consists of a base of ground beef, onion, plain yogurt, and a bunch of tasty spices, all piled on fresh dough and oven-baked to perfection. These bad boys are only $ 1 a pop, so naturally, I bought 4. SO good. The spinach pies are also on the dollar menu, and on the list for things to try next time. And then for dessert — Fun With Frosting, the cupcake shop that brings in amazing cake and frosting combos from their home base in Fenton. Many of the cupcakes are paired up in 2-packs, which is allows for easy transportation and an opportunity to mix and match flavors. The Triple Chocolate Dream came out on top for the duo that I purchased, but really, everything and everyone wins when gourmet cupcakes are being consumed. This is a fantastic market, and sets the bar high for the new Flint Farmers Market that will hopefully be opening later this summer.
