Atmosphere and wait staff rock! However, the food does not. Thick fried green tomatoes. Lemon pepper wings just taste like regular fried chicken. Ribs taste like they were made a couple of days ago. If you are coming, just sit at the bar, drink, relax and enjoy. Get your food someplace else.

Great dining experience, food is fabulous and the presentation was amazing. We don’t have food like this in Portland Oregon so it was a treat! Thank you!

One of the worst restaurants I’ve ever been to! If it was an option to give no stars I would! I never plan on going back I would rather starve! I came in with my family for a birthday we got there around 8 took 30 minutes to get a something to drink she gave us water another 25 minutes to get our actual ordered drinks. After the drinks maybe 20⁄30 more minutes to order the food only one waiter. So we’ve been here for now 2 hours finally received our food we ordered catfish dinner and fish and chips TERRIBLE wet no season just nasty fries was soft not cooked all the way! So I asked her to take it back she stated the kitchen was close so I couldn’t reordered which was fine already been here to long I’m ready to go! Get my bill and they charge me for the meal stating I ate some of it. I tasted the catfish and let my boyfriend taste it and he spit it out nasty so we ate off the same nugget and I took it back but they thought I was going to pay for that it was 10 $ it wasn’t even about the money it was the principle I wasn’t paying for something I didnt eat so the waiter come back and say the manager went home so I can’t get it took off the bill. They have another waitress come over and state she will just call the police because they will take off 8 $ off the meal but I have to pay 7 $ for the rest… Of What… My drink I had a coke that was 2.50 they charge taxes and the table had 6 so you know they charge gratuity which is 18% so why my bill still so high? It should be 18% of 2.50 right… no my boyfriend eats chicken and fries his fries were sent back but chicken was cooI so I pay for his food with my card they kept my card saying they gone wait on the police. That’s fine but if I’m paying for someone else’s food why tf are you keeping my card! It took another 15 minutes going back and forth on why the bill wasn’t correct finally the waitress said she’ll pay for it only the 2 $ still leaving me with 5.30 why is my drink so high? The taste should be sorry for such bad service I would never recommend anyone to go here. It’s a black owned place which I love to support my people but this here I would never come back!

Some of the best food we’ve had in the greater Dayton/Cincinnati area since we moved here from Chicago. Their ribeye sandwich was easily the best sandwich I’d ever head anywhere.

Excellent place! The server was wonderful, the food was amazing and the music was great! The drinks were awesome. Get the collard greens egg rolls. Perfectly spicy. Everything we ate was perfect. We’ll be back the next time we are down this way.

Stopped by Taste last night to grab some dinner. Sat at the bar and was pleasantly surprised to be sitting next to the owner. Great guy, bought everyone at the bar a round. Tried the Paso Creek wine and it was a hit. For dinner got the pasta carbonara. Tried it blackened and the hint of spice was just enough. Added mushrooms and it was great. I’ll definitely go back!

Just went to Taste’s Gospel Brunch. The food was great, the service wonderful, but oh my the singer was truly inspiring and uplifting. I love the design of this place, everything right down to the salt and pepper shakers were stylish. Can’t wait to go back for jazz!

Fantastic service, 50% off very good drinks during happy hour, the BEST fried chicken I’ve ever had, and we were even given a free dessert to go!!! Certainly glad we stumbled onto this great restaurant while we had time to kill in Dayton! Highly recommend! Just be aware that they don’t open until 4pm on Saturdays.

We got a GroupOn and decided to make the journey out to Trotwood to try Taste. My family is from Louisiana so I’m a big fan of Creole food but I’m usually disappointed when I order gumbo or fried catfish out at an «upscale» restaurant. However, Taste was an exception & a pleasant surprise. For appetizers we ordered the skillet fried crab cake and the gumbo. The crab cake was filled with crab and had great flavor. The rice in the gumbo was a little too crunchy for my taste but the flavor of the soup was spot on. Our entrees were both fantastic. My girlfriend got the shrimp and scallops which was presented well and had great flavor though the portion was a but small and I had the fried catfish with Mac & cheese and collard greens. I’m not usually a big fan of collard greens but these were AWESOME! Also, the catfish was fried perfectly. Overall, it was a great experience. We sat at the bar and although there was only one bartender for 15 – 20 people she was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We’ll definitely be back to check out some live jazz and try some more of the menu. The jerk wings looked great and supposedly they are spicy and flavorful. A customer next to us was sweating while eating them but he couldn’t stop! Can’t wait to go back

My last, and final, review. We again ventured back. This was the third time we tried Taste. First time was awesome, second time was abysmal, and third time was ok. It was good, but nothing to write home about. The waitress was rude and the service was sorely lacking. Overall, the experience was ok. I would say consistency is not this restaurant’s strong point. So roll the dice and take your chances on getting a good experience. It may be worth it.

For the live jazz music alone, it is worth the drive. On Friday, the live jazz starts at 8:00pm, so I made sure to make reservations at 7:30pm for dinner to catch the band. It was full for a Friday, but not packed. You probably could of gotten away with not making any reservations. I recommend sitting to the left/right of the bar if you want to see the band. So this is an old apple bee’s, but this recycled/converted this into something more upscale. I think they did a great job with the décor, but I can’t help to see the remainders of the old apple bee’s structure. Be aware that the service is extremely slow, I wasn’t in a rush and the live jazz music more than made up for it. Since the food is southern comfort and heavy, I never felt hungry waiting in between my apps and entrees. They have pretty good selections of cocktails and some beers on tap(not a lot). For the non-alcoholics, they have ginger beer! The food: Truffle Parmesan fries — very dense, but good. We couldn’t finish them though. Fried Okra(comes with sweet and sour like dipping sauce), I think they are worth doing it here. Wedge Salad(nothing to cry over about) I do wish I got the crab cakes though(next time!) Chicken and Waffles(sweet potato waffles with chicken wings). It was done right. Seafood Gumbo — a little soupier than I thought it was going to be and spicy. I like spicy food, but there is def. some kick to it. All and all, I know they have Sunday brunch with live jazz and a late night menu after 10pm. The atmosphere was great for a date night. Between the smooth R&B music and live jazz, this is a place where you can dress down in jeans or come in your favorite cocktail dress for an evening of fun. Another tip, the GPS will take you behind the restaurant, but this is in front of the walgreens.

I know I am late, but I finally made it to Taste. I went Saturday for lunch and had the fried okra as an appetizer, and the chicken and sweet potato waffles. I liked both appetizer and entrée. I liked the spices on the okra and the chicken and the sweet potatoes didn’t over power the tast of the waffles, which were fluffy by the way. What I didn’t lke was that the chicken was limited to chcken wings. Bottom line it still worked. The restaurant has a nice décor — a clean, minumalistic appeal. The décor is not jammed with«themed» decorations like pictures of wacky seens or car/airplane parts or anything to fit the name of the place. Our waitress was attentive and eager to answer any questions I had.
