Although Delta Airlines is not my preferred carrier when flying out of Daytona Beach it’s the only carrier I consider. The counter and gate staff here has always been exceptional and very helpful. As far the airline as a whole they are okay, since I don’t use them often my statue doesn’t get me many perks I usually use any miles I accumulate for upgrade inside the cabin. I did notice a few things that annoy me after paying $ 25 at the counter per checked bag more often than not they gate check the bags free of charge so basically they punish those of us that check our bags at the counter so unless you have a very heavy or oversize bag it’s worth taking it through security and getting it tagged at the gate and it arrives at your final destination at baggage claim free of charge. They need to rethink this policy.

Speedy luggage and friendly ticket agents, the gate agents got us boarded smoothly as well. Delta does not have much service from Daytona — just five or so flights a day to Atlanta.

This airline changed our reservation from the morning we were due to fly out, and rescheduled us to fly on the following evening, a full 1 ½ days after we were originally due to travel. I understand that Delta made this change because they were expecting some bad weather conditions to hit their main hub in Atlanta, and they decided to cancel several flights in anticipation. While I can appreciate that, what I have a major problem with is that we were never notified of this change by the airline via phone or e-mail, we only found out that our reservation had been changed when we got on the internet to do online check in and to print boarding passes the evening before the originally scheduled flight. If we hadn’t done that, we wouldn’t have found out about the change until after we’d driven more than an hour to the airport for our departing flights, which had been cancelled. This would’ve made for a really bad situation, and caused a lot of stress to say the least. While I realize Delta is a large airline with thousands of people flying with them each day, they’re also in the customer service industry. If they must cancel or greatly delay flights due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, especially this many hours in advance, they should at least take a moment to notify people before they make the trek to the airport, park and schlep all their stuff to the terminal, only to find out their time and preparation was all wasted.
