Deale Umai Sushi House

We have enjoyed every meal we’ve had here. Great sushi and friendly owners/​atmosphere. So glad there is such an authentic Japanese restaurant in this area!

Hands down best sushi in the area. Owner is always there and super nice. Never had a problem with service or food. On par with other sushi places with prices. Good quality sushi, even though the outside might not look like it. Always worth the stop.

Fantastic sushi. Just had some tonight for the first time and it was delicious. Lived in NYC and DC and this is up there. We will be ordering from there again!

Not bad, but not 5 stars. It was a bit inconsistent. The yellowtail was fantastic but then the tuna was so so. The owners are indeed nice, so that’s a plus. If you’re in Deale and want sushi, try it.

Ordered take out for the first time and it was delicious. We had to wait a bit but didn’t mind. The owners are very nice and the sushi is fresh.

Always greeted by the owners. I generally show up and place a to go order. The majority of times I receive a complimentary Umai Ball, a wonderful app if you like cream cheese and scallions. Since they’ve opened I’ve eaten here about twice a month and I’ve never been disaapointed.

Umai Sushi house is the best around and is a surprising find for South County! The food is authentic and fresh and the owner Mrs. Park is so kind and friendly and will quickly learn your name. Eat in or carry out. Both options provide excellent food that rivals any big city sushi restaurants. It’s our favorite!

I’d like to give 3.5 stars, but the app won’t let me so I’ll stretch it more toward four. I did really like the place.
Service: Our server wasn’t personable or quick, and she got a drink order wrong when she guess his order because she didn’t hear him and didn’t know the menu. However, once the service was taken over by the manager/​owner, we were happy. She was awesome. She did mix up the split checks a little bit, but it wasn’t a big difference (maybe a soda), and she was super busy so I understand. Also, the people I was with had been before and said it was busier than usual so having slow service made sense.
The food: My food was amazing. I had a chicken bento box that I recommend — everything came out fresh and very tasty. Everyone else liked their food also, for the most part. I heard that some of the sushi wasn’t the best they’ve had, but still good. I can vouch for the spicy tuna roll — holy crap just get it YUM. My box came with a thinly sliced tempura potato that was really unique and yummy. Food did take a LONG time to come out though, probably about 25 – 30 minutes, but I wasn’t timing it.
Overall regardless of the slow service I will likely return, although maybe for lunch when it’s not so busy.

I adore this place I kept going here and eventully became good friends with the owner she is awesome and always made me smile and gave us amazing things to eat. Most of the time I just came in and she would serve us knowing what we wanted which was the best. Great place hidden in the area but you will enjoy it.

I’ve had sushi all over Maryland, DC and California. And I absolutely love the quality of the food here. The fact that the staff treats you like long lost friends only adds to the great experience. They have a great variety – if you are not interested in sushi and want hot food, that’s delicious too. With the addition of the liquor license, there are some nice beer and sake options. Try it and enjoy!

I LOVE having sushi 5 min. away from my house in SOUTHERN ANNE ARUNDEL county. The service is great, the owners are fantastic, super friendly. I usually order to go, and have found the sushi to be delicious, as well as their other food. I would say the only reason why I don’t give 5 stars is because the prices are a little high, but I chalk that up to the convenience of it being 5 min. away vs. 20 mins! I had one day where they were busy and had to wait longer than expected and was irritated, but that happened once and never again since.

For some reason, my original review isn’t showing up. This is for a visit a couple of months ago.
1.5 hours from the time we ordered to the time we actually got the first of our order. Many people simply walked out, including people who had called in orders from hours previous. When the good came, it really wasn’t very good.
The one good part about the restaurant is that the sushi chef has a good sense of humor.
We will not be back.

Awesome food, very fresh and great quality. Staff is friendly and helpful. Good time all around… Don’t go on weekend because they get really busy but it is worth the wait!

First of all, props for this place having lower-​sodium soy sauce (which still has like 25% daily value in one tablespoon, wow…). They were speedy and friendly, and the fish was fresh, but I was not blown away by any aspect. I also thought things were a bit overpriced, but perhaps it was due to the establishment’s proximity to the ocean. This raised my expectations to a level that simply could not be met properly.
I ordered the spicy salmon roll and the California roll. Both were satisfactory but nothing that trumped any previous sushi experience I have had thus far. Basically, there’s not much else I have to say about this place. It’s okay for a typical, run-​of-​the-​mill sushi experience for which you may pay a bit more than you should. Period, end of story.

Pros:
~Great sushi.
~Fried cream cheese appetizers are amazing.
~Very friendly waitstaff.
~Quaint and tidy.
Cons:
~As slow as if they had to go catch the fish themselves, even when they aren’t terribly busy.
I haven’t decided if I’ll return.

Sushi was good, but service and atmosphere was awesome! A gem in the middle of nowhere!

This place has quality food. The sushi is so fresh and the bento boxes are so fun to get! I get the vegetarian bento box which comes with a tofu dish, veggie sushi, tempura veggies, and some rice. It is amazing.
The owners and servers are very friendly. It is also good to see your meal being made completely fresh when you order it. The only problem is that there is really only one person making sushi at one time, making the wait time extremely long at times. Although it is slow, the wait is often worth the taste!

You wouldn’t think, in this little storefront shop, in this small bayside town, would be this awesome sushi restaurant. Everything we’ve had from them has been delicious and beautiful to look at. The chef’s artistry is on display with every dish, little flourishes with the sauces are just cool. I’d drive a lot further for this level of service since moving to Calvert County, but I’m glad I don’t have to.

Really great service! The owner was very nice. We walked in around 6:30pm on a Tuesday night and it was pretty busy. We didn’t have any reservations but we asked for a table for 6 because we were meeting here with my best friend’s family. The lady seated us and so we waited. Well an hour later my friend ended up not making it. Luckily there were no other big parties that came in after us and when we told the lady that it was just going to be 2 of us for dinner, she wasn’t upset.
This is probably one of the greatest restaurants I’ve been to anywhere though! I really hope they can survive out here because their location seems out in the middle of smallstownsville of Deale, MD, but I hear they are very popular with the locals so I think they’re safe!
The only thing missing from this place is sake! They serve no alcohol!
