My friend and ate dinner here on a Thursday evening. I had the Dearborn Inn salad, we both had the chicken, and then we split the almond cake. The room is lovely with its high ceilings. It was bright and we sat next to a window. The salad was delicious. I would order that every time if I lived here! The dressing amount was perfect; the blue cheese subtle; the pine nuts sprinkled throughout, and the occasional Michigan cherry completed it. We both loved the chicken. The sauce made it! It was served with rice but neither of us was thrilled about that. We got some replacement vegetables. The almond cake dessert is a must if you love almond flavor and raspberry! Soft, moist cake with raspberry inside– it was different. The side of raspberry sorbet didn’t last long. Service was great.

My husband and I went to Edison’s at the Dearborn Inn primarily because many of the other fine dining establishments in and around Detroit are closed on Mondays. I wanted to celebrate my 10 year anniversary at my job on the actual date so our limited options led us to Edison’s. I had attended a couple of weddings at the Dearborn Inn and found the meals delicious, so I was excited to try dinner at Edison’s. Our 6:00 reservation was totally unnecessary as we were the first table to be seated for dinner. Throughout our hour and half dinner only six other tables held patrons. Our waiter was very nice, attentive and accommodating. Dishes were brought and taken away at perfect intervals and our water glasses never got less than half way full. We had looked at the menu online in advance and plotted our meal, tapas style. Instead of the traditional appetizer, entrée and dessert, we ordered several starters and planned to share. Our waiter devised the best way to bring out the dishes, course by course. We started with a complimentary, simple bread basket and my husband sipped on a glass of red wine. I stuck with water as we also were celebrating our 18th week of pregnancy. Next came 3 slices of different bruschettas that we cut in half and enjoyed immensely. Following that was the star of the evening, the lobster bisque which was brought out in 2 bowls(they split our single serving into 2). The bowl had a dollop of marscarpone and a serving of lobster, that smelled amazing, then the waiter poured the bisque over the lobster and marscarpone from a gravy boat. This was pure magic. I ate every last speck by utilizing the bread from our bread basket. After this, we had Deaborn Inn salads that were fresh and tasty and seemingly drenched in dressing but it was just right for us. The next part of our meal was a little disappointing for me, but not my husband. He loved it all. I admit I am a moderately picky person and my taste buds have intensified with pregnancy. We shared the apricot scallops with a couscous and mint pesto garnished with watercress. I adored the scallops, they were cooked perfectly. And we also had the duck crêpe with a little cabbage salad. The duck was too peppery for my liking and the cabbage salad needed salt but again, my husband happily devoured my portion. The end of the evening included a wonderfully aromatic coffee for my husband and two desserts. I enjoyed the lemon tart and a white chocolate ice cream while my husband went with the Napoleon that included a chocolate shell surrounding a bottom layer of chocolate cake, a white chocolate mousse and a milk chocolate mousse with a center of ganache flanked by 3 small pools of chocolate sauce holding 3 perfectly ripe raspberries. I will be coming back, perhaps during the holidays to see if the Inn decorates for Christmas. And I will dream of the lobster bisque until then.

A lovely restaurant. I highly recommend the short ribs – it melts in your mouth! The lobster bisque was also tasty! I would’ve given five stars, but service was slightly slow toward the end of the meal.

We went to celebrate my husband’s birthday last night and it was our first time to the restaurant. We were both pleasantly surprised how wonderful everything was. The moment when the hostess led us to our table, we just fall in love with the décor and the ambience. I had Beet Salad and Duck Breast. My husband had Dearborn Inn Salad and Rack of Lambs. They were not only beautifully presented but perfectly seasoned and cooked. The whole experience was beyond our expectation and it exceeded most of other upscale restaurants we have been. We thought the price was very reasonable with the quality of food and service. This is a special place to indulge.

For the last forty years I have celebrated Christmas Eve dinner at the Dearborn Inn. So I have seen many changes over the years. Last year I thought the restaurant was on life support. The menu had limited selection and the best wine in the restaurant was a Franciscan merlot. It felt like the Courtyard Marriott. Well this year the restaurant has vastly improved. The Lobster bisque was perfect. My entrée was a poached salmon with fresh vegetables. The wine list has marginally improved. I would add some wines outside of Napa to provide some variety for customers. While I was pleased with my meal this year the restaurant still has a long way to go to get back to the glory days of the Eighties. I really miss the signature prime rib with Yorkshire pudding.

We took my Grandmother and Mother here for lunch today, and some early cocktails… =} Very nice place, love the old pics on the walls, plus just love the old hotel ambiance and it’s history. For starters we had the vegetable tempura and it did not disappoint, some deep fried tastiness for sure. I had the vegetable linguine, it was nice, but a little on the bland side. My husband had the skirt steak sandwich, he said it was good, but not remarkable. Grandma had the turkey burger, she enjoyed that very much. The fresh made potato chips were awesome and enjoyed by all. Our server«Kim» was fantastic, she was warm and friendly and made our visit a little more special. Overall the place was okay, but the food could definitely use a little oomph, especially for the price. However, it could be a lunch thing, sounds like dinner is a little better, will probably give it another try and update my review accordingly.

Ate here the other night and it was so good, I had to add to Unilocal! It’s pricier, but really excellent food, beautifully presented with outstanding service. A great place to take someone for a special dinner. The restaurant has just been redone and the décor and the ambience is very nice. I had roasted salmon served on a bed of lump crab and topped with Bernaise sauce … delicious! Everyone loved what they ordered. After my disappointing outing to The Whitney, it’s nice to have a top-notch go-to restaurant for special occasions again.
