So I got some estimates on some blown in attic insulation from the big box stores… and was blown away by their estimates. Then a friend of the family told me to call Metropolitan. I made the call, I got the estimate, and made my decision. Bruce was very thorough in explaining this insulation stuff to me, as I knew nothing except I didn’t have any in my attic. DTE brought that to my attention when I got my July electric bill… Initially, I planned to insulate the walls as well, but when the guys came out to do the job, they discovered that the house actually has insulation in the walls and they let me know and called Bruce so he could get me a new estimate. I was so glad they were so honest. At that point, I pictured some other company standing out there blowing air into the walls while I pay for insulation. They put in more soffit vents, four roof vents, baffles, and the blown in insulation. One of the other companies didn’t even mention ventilation! The second one mentioned the roof vents, but told me that he’d have to call a roof guy.
Bruce took a look at my one drafty window and told me what’s wrong with it just because I asked. He also told me some unfortunate news that I will need a new roof in a couple years. The years of this house not having attic insulation until I bought it certainly took a toll on the roof. Improper ventilation + no insulation + Michigan weather = roof start to fall apart.
I will definitely be calling these guys when I decide on new windows! Very knowledgable, friendly, and they clean up after themselves. You would have never known anyone was here blowing insulation around or cutting holes in my roof!
