I bought a mango-banana smoothie, some hummus and pita, and a falafel sandwich. Firstly, the smoothie was to die for — one of the best I’ve had. It was very smooth and with the perfect amount of sweetness. The guy in the front was very friendly and happy to replace honey with sugar when I asked. I would recommend this place for the smoothies if nothing else. I will definitely be back for one. As for the hummus and pita — the hummus was unusually oily and not some of the best I’ve had, but I still prefer it to store brand hummus, so I can’t complain. Not bad. Extra bags of pita bread were $ 1 each and were pretty decent quality. The falafel was disappointing. It was barely cooked and not as flavorful as most sandwiches I’ve had. The pickles were also old and somehow nearly flavorless. There was an odd bitter taste, perhaps from the pickles, that made the sandwich taste a bit spoiled. I would not recommend buying a sandwich here. Prices were fair, and overall, I wouldn’t say to avoid this place. But if you’re looking for a great sandwich, there are lots of other Middle Eastern restaurants in Dearborn that are more deserving of your time and money.

Wow. Maybe I went here in a bad day. I got a beef shawarma which came wit hummus and pickles. The shawarma was very bland and dry, the pickles had no flavor(how can this be when the get them out of jar) and I couldn’t even eat the hummus due to a very sour taste unlike any hummus I’ve eaten before. I heard good things about this place but I wasn’t impressed. Hopefully that we’re having a bad day and the are usually much better.

The food is just okay but the service is bad and it is way over priced for the portion. Also once you make an order you cannot change it and they never do refunds one time my friend found a hair in her food and she didn’t get a refund.

The food is ok, but their costumer service SUCKS. I think the workers still think they’re in Middle East. Oh and, I opened my cup to see what kind of pop they gave me, only to find a BUG in it. Disgusting! They weren’t even apologetic about it.

After attending a movie at Fairlane Mall, I had decided to have a shawarma sandwich. I was really looking forward to a shawarma sandwich. My wife and I walked up to the counter. The time was 8:20PM on a Saturday night. The employee behind the counter yelled at us that the place was closed and shut off the lights. The cook could be seen in the back still cooking and not cleaning up nor shutting down the kitchen. After we walked off, a few young ladies of Middle Eastern heritage walked up and asked him why they had closed early. He told them that they had to pretend to close because someone of an ethnicity that he found undesirable had tried to get food there and pointed at where I was sitting after getting food from another food court restaurant. The girls said that it was too bad that someone of my ethnicity didn’t know to stay away from their Muslim place. The employee agreed with them. The employee apparently either didn’t know that I could hear them or didn’t care. Ten minutes later, the lights were back on, and they were serving food again. They continued to serve customers until the mall closed at 9PM. Be careful if you decide to go here. You might not be the right ethnicity for the staff and get treated in a nasty manner.

We ordered two shawarma sandwich combos in which the meat and pickles smelled and tasted spoiled, we took them back and they replaced the two sandwiches into one hamburger filled with mayo for 10 burgers, as my wife opened the sandwich we found that the cook spit in it and tried to cover it up with the extra mayo. So I was in a mall food court in a city that has one of the biggest Middle Eastern populations in the United States. Clearly I was not going to grab lunch at Taco Bell with Shawarma Express right there. For five bucks, I snagged a chicken schawarma sandwich and a soda. It took foreeeeeever to get it out to me, but once it was in my hands, I was a happy eater. Warm, tasty, generously sauced, with a grilled pita unlike any schawarma sandwich I’ve ever tried. This is about as good as food court grub gets.

Now that I work across the street from Fairlane mall, I’ll be visiting Shawarma Express a lot more often. They offer typical middle eastern sandwiches on Pita, and more americanized sandwiches on sub-style bread. In addition they do Fattouch, Tabbouleh and Greek salads, and sides like french fries. The prices are reasonable($ 3 for a pita sandwich, $ 4 for a Full salad) the service is quick and the food is tasty. Just get some breath mints, because you will be garlicky all day.
