I absolutely love this place. Their staff is extremely helpful. For instance, I’m a science teacher and I frequently need random supplies for crazy projects I have dreamed up. There’s an older guy in the hardware supply section that literally helps me figure out exactly what I need. We often end up brainstorming together. They’ve also helped me find difficult to source parts.
In the garden section, some of the most beautiful and hardy plants I have ever purchased have been from here. I love that they buy from local growers and I find that my plants do much better than I would otherwise experience from some of the big stores that simply sell cheap plants. Rarely will you find such helpful, knowledgeable, awesome staff as you will here. I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about them.

From their beautiful nursery plants to their stock of «everything under the sun» hardware items, there are so many reasons to love this Ace Hardware. The staff is always friendly, knowledgeable and willing to help. Over the last few years, it has become my go-​to gift store. They have a great selection of Green Egg & grilling gadgets, rubs, spices, mixes, etc. Need kitchen gadgets, linens, aprons, mugs, cards, etc — this is the place. I’ve purchased unique jewelry, candles and soaps for gifts. Need a hip outfit or bag — they’ve got that too. I loose track of time when I’m in this place. My kids love it too — free popcorn while you shop and candy or ice-​cream for the road. Due yourself and favor, visit this place and you’ll be a fan too. Tips: They tend to be super busy on sunny Saturday/​Sundays. Extra parking is available in the lot next door (think it’s also parking for an urgent care facility).

Bad customer service, experienced an uncaring and condescending manager. Was about to spend over $ 80 and have been a loyal customer for years. Going back to Lowe’s.

I’ve spent a lot of time in hardware stores in my life, but as a young woman I am not always treated excellently in them. I’ve been very happy with the service at this Ace — help is offered (or easy to find) but I’ve also always felt welcome.
Being an Ace the selection isn’t as big as a Home Depot or Lowes, but they pack a lot in to this little store. I’ve come here for tools, paint, lights, hardware, and plant supplies. I’ve had good experiences in each case. In addition to everything you expect to find in a hardware store, this has a fairly large selection of clothes and homegoods. It can be a little pricey, but much of it is fairly nice.
I particularly like their garden section — the selection is excellent. When you want to pick up bags of dirt, they have a back drive that you take so they are loaded directly into your car. I’m happy to not need to lug around bags of dirt like at most stores. Their seed selection is great, including heirlooms and some hard-​to-​find varieties. I’ve had excellent luck sprouting the seeds I’ve bought here.
I came in to buy «white» paint, and the employee was very helpful in helping me match the paint (using a chip of paint) and balance what my needs were. I expect that employees are equally knowledgeable and helpful in other sections of the store as well.

Incredibly helpful staff. Really, they’re amazing. There hasn’t been one time I have gone there for something specific and they didn’t have it. They have it all and them some. The inside feels like a cozy neighborhood shop, not a cold soulless hardware store. The outside garden area feels like a stroll in the park. I love coming here.

Today was the first time my beau & I had ever visited this Ace Hardware. Pulling in to the driveway, we were greeted by plenty of shady parking spots, lush green plants and things everywhere, and a very nice staff person. He asked us if we were looking for something in particular, and we told him that we needed both some potting soil & some plant food, for some succulent plants that we have. We also told him that this was our first time here. He wasn’t sure about soil & plant food specifically made for succulents, but he said that as soon as his manager finished her lunch, he would ask her about it for us.
We walked around the beautiful, serene grounds… it was so difficult to believe that we were still at a retail store! There is a great sized «garden», that has a nice little walking path, flanked by all manner of greenery, garden décor, outdoor fountains. So much to see! Plants here, shrubs and trees there. Following this «garden» path, you’re led to a beautiful barn type structure that houses a huge display pottery, all around. Behind that looks to be a full size, enclosed greenhouse. We didn’t venture back to look inside so, I’m not sure if what is inside of it is for sale, or if it is the starter home for some of the greenery sold here. One more barn front type structure holds larger bags of potting soil and the like. The outside area also has a lot of both indoor & outdoor wall décor.
I only took a star off, because the gentleman who asked us about what we were looking for finally came back, and told us that they thought just regular potting soil would be fine. I was a little bit disappointed to hear that, because I know that some companies make items specifically for succulents/​cacti. We actually ended up going in to the store, and finding potting soil for succulents, and got a little bottle of the plant food.
The inside of this Ace is slightly overwhelming when you walk in. There is sooo much to see everywhere! It’s fantastic.
One more thing we noticed… not one dead, shouldn’t-be-out-for-sale plant/​shrub/​tree anywhere, that we saw! Take THAT H.D. and L’s! Yes… we will most definitely make the drive over to this Ace again in the near future!

Intown Ace (they’re affiliated with the Intown Ace in VaHi) is the best hardware store in town. Sometimes I think this should be my retirement job just so I can hang out here more. The people are awesome.
They might not have the huge selection of Home Depot or Lowe’s but they have a much bigger selection of certain items, such as bolts, nuts, screws and washers, something I find myself needing to match quite often. Just walking down their aisles is an experience. They carry so much stuff that I absolutely must have! I even picked up a bottle of Kentucky teriyaki sauce today (over near the grills).
Too much stuff to list.
Parking seems like it can be a zoo when busy, but not really when you know that parking is available in the adjacent lot too.

Ace Hardware tried to scam me out $ 400. I went to this location to buy a grill that was only available at this store. When I get to the store I was told that the grill I wanted was on the shelf. I go over and it’s marked as the one I wanted. I also dropped another $ 70 on a portable cart for said grill. Long story short I got home and put everything together and the grill did not mount properly. I called Weber for help and gave them the serial number. I was told the grill I bought was obsolete and was not being sold anymore. I thought they were mistaken and told the operator that all the labels were correct but she insisted it was the obsolete model. Once she directed me to the owners manual I realized that Ace had labeled and priced this as a new model and just changed the labels from a new model to one that is longer manufactured. I will never use these scam artists again. Even when I drove back (40 miles) I was asked to wait 10 minutes until someone would help me. once I finally spoke to the manager he did not believe me until I showed him. Forget this place.

Great store, If you can tolerate the obnoxious music that they seem to need to play. and the cashiers on their I phones…

Terrible customer service and blatantly dishonest! The owner, Dave, refused to give me a refund for the brand new, unused items I purchased just 4 days before, citing a make believe «no return on winter merchandise» policy. First the cashier told me the policy was on the receipt, which it is not. Then Dave says there was probably a sign on the door about it, which there was not. I have a call into corporate for their help but this business is absolutely discriminatory and makes policies as they please depending on who you are or how much money is at stake. Do yourself a favor and just go to Lowes or HD. They would never get away with treating people like this or make up random «policies» as it benefits them and their wallet.

This is a really fantastic hardware store — and reminds me of the old Hastings in both customer service and employee knowledge. While it’s certainly not the least expensive experience, there are some things that are worth more than saving a buck or two — in this case you’re getting the benefit of the amazing information accrued by the Ace employees you’ll meet at this location. The people here are simply amazing.
Second, there are a few items here that you won’t find at other BORG stores — some specialty tools, brands and other things worth trying/​buying that the big box stores will never carry due to costs. This Ace has been my go-​to source for organically grown, heirloom sourced starter herbs, for instance. I remember my first visit here (20 years ago?) and how well treated I was by the staff — I was able to find something that wasn’t available at the local Home Depot — when I asked about it someone walked me directly to the shelf. Try doing that at HD or Lowes!
Kudos to the staff of this Ace Hardware — you’ve consistently put the pleasure back into shopping.
I think it’s best to visit this location during the week — the weekends are very busy and parking can become a problem.

This store won an award for being the best Ace Hardware in the country, and I see why. Helpful, friendly, knowledgeable staff, good selection of products and excellent outdoor center. They’ve got local Georgia sports team memorabilia hanging from the walls, and City of Decatur logos scattered about. It feels like the kind of hometown, neighborhood hardware store where Marty McFly would get some wiring and screws for Doc Brown’s Delorean, if that makes any sense at all. I love it.
There’s a Home Depot down the street, but I avoid it whenever possible. Lazy, unpleasant employees who do their best to avoid contact with customers, impractical, sprawling layout. Totally, completely impersonal big box store with no heart.

THE BEST. We were out plant shopping and decided to stop here on a whim. NOT what we expected. As other reviewers mentioned, there is a lot of stuff to see and buy here. From the awesome garden area outside to the huge selection of gifty-​type items, oh, and the practical hardware stuff… Pretty much a one-​stop shop, minus food… But they DO have soup mixes, rubs, and sauces to peruse.
Tokyomilk products, jewelry, cute decorative items and TERRARIUM FIGURES. I just love it so much. Christmas shopping in May, basically.
We bought chain, soap, some ground cover, and an owl bottle opener… At ACE. What!!!

This is the best Ace Hardware! I have passed this Ace so many times, but I never had a reason to visit. We needed some rope and we were passing this store, so we stopped. This store is not just a hardware store. They have so many cool, unusual and arty household items. This is where I will be buying almost all of my future gifts.
The garden section is great. I have always really liked the Ace on Highlands in Virginia Highlands, but this Ace is in an «Ace Hardware» league of it’s own.
The staff is very courteous and helpful. Our cashier was precious.

This ACE Hardware store is so much more than just a hardware store. They have everything! Great garden section, great kitchen /​home canning area, everything imaginable when it comes to lawn, garden, and home goods, and of course all kinds of hard to find hardware.
The staff is very friendly, courteous, and professional. Checkout cashiers are simply the best.
Skip the annoying big box stores (Lowes and Home Depot) and hit up this ACE store. The shopping experience is so much better by comparison.

I was looking for a hardware store not far from where we moved to, and this place was very close, so I decided to stop by. When I walked in, I fell in love. First off, the staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. Every time I’ve been there (a lot recently, with a new house), someone has always been there to help and has done a great job doing it! I’ve even seen some staff members wearing shirts that boast that they work in the best ACE store in Atlanta, which I won’t contest one bit!
Their selection is pretty great (though you can’t buy wood planks there and they can’t really cut down what they do have), and they even have keys that Home Depot doesn’t have.
But the crown jewels of this place are the garden department and the gift department. Outside is a wonderland of plants and pots and other gardening essentials and decorations. You could spend hours just admiring everything! And inside there are tons of really nice, stylish gifts, anywhere from scarves to mugs, even artwork for your walls! I’m pretty sure I’ll be buying some Christmas presents there this year! Speaking of holidays, they even have a little seasonal section that has some fun Halloween stuff right now. They also have a lot of merchandise with local college and City of Decatur emblems on it.
Love this place! I have some pretty fierce customer loyalty already!

I love that every time I walk inside, I am greeted by the cashiers and then asked by one of the floor staff if they can help me.
I am usually here to pick up something specific, so I haven’t had a chance to wander and learn the whole store. I have, however, perused the middle of the store, where they have kitchen/​cooking stuff and a ton of random stuff… from jewelry to Fox Bros. BBQ sauce to lotions and fancy soaps.
Ace may be pricier than the gigantic hardware stores, but I can be almost certain that I will get the customer service that (usually) justifies the higher price.

Well, Intown Ace — you blew it today.
I live in downtown Decatur, and while I’ve frequented this place in the past — today was the last time I will darken your doorway.
I spend a LOT of money on home improvement and hardware stuff. Within the past 5 years, we’re talking tens-​of-​thousands of dollars. As much as I want to support the little guy, I just can’t do it anymore with this place.
FIrst, it’s an Ace. So the prices are inflated to a near ridiculous level. A pleated air-​filter that would run you $ 8 at Home Depot (not 2 miles up the road, no less) is $ 15 here. Paint? $ 45 a gallon for something that is no better than the $ 30 Sherwin Williams stuff. I could go on — but you get the idea. They are proud of their merchandise.
They have a lot of the odd little parts and doodads that the box stores don’t have, so that’s nice. And the FLOOR STAFF is great. No, where they continually blow it is at the checkout lane.
Without fail — every single time I am in there, there’s a massive line for checkout. Today was no exception. The kicker today was that there were two empty registers while the other two were running at-​capacity. I stood in line for 11 minutes and never made it to the cashier before I put my stuff down and walked out. There were two other staff members standing behind an un-​used paint counter — both of which I’ve seen man registers before.
To be that inconsiderate of your customer’s time is a sign of either bad management, or an organization that simply doesn’t care. In either case, I’ll be going to Home Depot from now on.

This Intown Ace is amazing! The staff is so knowledgeable. They carry so many unique items too, which is great. I love the new kids area which a ton of Melissa and Doug projects that are reasonably priced. My kids love looking at all of the seeds and picking out the ones they want to plant in our garden. Oh, they are always popping popcorn and who does not like that.
The staff in the plant area is really helpful too. They were able to help me find plants that grow fruit and which ones would look nice with our other fruiting buds.
I have been to a lot of Aces, but this is by far the coolest one that I have gone to and will continue to go to.
Now, if you know, Walmart (blah!) is trying to open down the street from here. If for one moment, they think that they will take away business from Ace, they are mistaken. I hope that no one buys any garden stuff from Walmart. We do not need a big box in this neighborhood and we support our locally run companies who do not underpay their employees.
