Being an avid reader I must give all libraries five stars. The Decatur Public Library offers a good selection of reading material. The downside of the library is its size and its location. Decatur could really use a bigger library in a more central location. A big thumbs up to the Friends of the Library who run a great used book store. You can find all kinds of books and magzines at very reasonable prices. The money made by the book sale room goes to the library. I have heard a rumor that some of the library board members want to put a coffee shop in the library. I say BOO to this as if I want coffee I will go to a coffee shop. I would rather see money spent to upgrade the facilities that we have instead of putting a lot of money and effort into a coffee shop at the library. The restrooms at the library were recently renovated and they are very nice and clean. It would be nice to see the rest of the library updated as well.

Nice library with a wonderful genealogical room and an Alabama Room for researching history. Got my library card here today and sat down to read a few magazines in the air-conditioned confines. I asked the reference desk about two books I never found. One was a Haynes Repair Manual for my 1989 Ford Ranger. It must have been checked out as it wasn’t there. The other was a history of Decatur(I was looking for info on the old railroad depot) which I never found. Staff was great, very informative. The woman handling reference/help had great tattoos!
