Cool little coffee shop. I’m not the biggest fan as a place to go and get work done just because it is smallish and difficult to grab a seat. But they do have fresh organic teas that are good for those of us who can’t or chose not to do coffee. But what I AM a fan of is the spoken word open mic night on Sundays. Highly recommend it. There is a wide variety of talent but each time I have went there have been at least one or two speakers that bring a deep, thought provoking message to the microphone. And if you have some spoken words you would like to speak then they welcome you here and are the crowd is supportive of each new speaker.

Nothing wow about this place, just a regular hipster coffee shop. It definitely needs some cleaning plus it smells like thrift shop.

Java Monkey is a neat place to meet a friend for coffee, listen to music, grab a bite, have a glass of wine or of course my favorite a cup of coffee. The service is good. The atmosphere has a college feel to it. The furniture is very worn and needs a major face lift. The hummus plate here is great. I’ve had it several times. I’ve caught a couple of shows from local talent here which is a fun time. It’s pretty busy on Saturday and Sundays. Lots of local college kids flock here and hang for hours.

Went on a Monday afternoon to get some work done and the place was definitely crowded. I was able to grab the last free table. A very cozy atmosphere with a touch of Austin vibes. Tables were rather small and close together if you are trying to get actual work done. Java Monkey is a better spot for just hanging out or some light reading on one of the couches. Ordered an almond milk latte which wasn’t the best-absolutely way too much foam and not enough liquid. Didn’t order anything to eat, but the salads looked pretty good. Not my first pick on a return visit, but will consider revisiting when the weather warms up and the patio is open.

The Java Monkey? More like the stinky monkey! The place smells like a stale fart, but the coffee is good.

This place is amazing, they’re sandwiches are stellar and environment surreal. The live music and poetry is also sublime I love escaping here after work!

I like this place a lot. The coffee is really good and so is the beer and wine selection(for a coffee shop, certainly). The food I’ve had has also been good. I like to come here and study because it usually isn’t too crowded and they play music softly enough that it isn’t overwhelming or distracting. The only reason I’m giving them 4 stars is because I think the staff could be just a tad friendlier. But overall, I think this place is really good and it’s usually my first choice study spot if I want to get off campus.

Got an Americano. The price is like any other coffee shop. The shots are pulled really well. The environment is very chill and everyone is doing their own thing. If you enjoy sipping on a good cup of coffee and chilling with a friend, this is a place I would recommend.

Cool place and great joint to either hang out and drink some coffee or drinks(yeah, they have both and pull off the combo pretty well). I studied late and then hung out and listened to some live music. Only prob is parking which is an issue for anywhere downtown so it’s hard to knock this place too much for that.

I found this little jewel back in 2009. It’s conveniently right across from the Decatur Marta Train station probably a few yards away. My first drink there was the Vanilla Latte(hot). It’s the most perfect latte I’ve ever tasted! When I drink other lattes, I always compare others to the one here. I will continue going here for some premium lattes as a special treat for myself. They have some cake too. It’s a little on the pricey side in my opinion but there has been times when I’ve bought a slice just to meet their credit card minimum. It’s also pretty sweet and easy to take to go. The only major problem I have is the parking. It’s so hard to find one. Sometimes I have to park at the plaza by Starbucks or even a block over by the church. Also, the size of the store is pretty big with many places to sit inside or outside but it does get crowded as does most coffee shops.

I love going here for a nice cup or coffee or a glass of wine and snack plate. They have comfortable seating and music outside sometimes. The prices are great and the staff is super friendly. I wish parking was more convenient, but you can park in the garage and walk around. I have gotten a coin voucher before to get out of the gate. Haven’t had many of the other items aside from the fruit of small snacks.

Can’t believe I haven’t written a review yet! I’ve been here several times. Nice, cool, local coffee shop. But I come here for the food! My favorite menu item is the BAT(bacon-arugula-tomato) panini sandwich. It’s delicious!!! I get it every time. It comes with a side. I usually get the salad(field greens & vinegarette). When I do have coffee, I get a cappuccino. I love the fact that they have almond milk! Today, I tried their frozen mint lemonade. Very refreshing especially on a hot summer day. The ambiance is laid back. They have indoor & outdoor seating. I think they have a wine bar and events in the evenings but I’ve never been. I will have to check those out in the future.

Java Monkey is an OK place to go for an OK coffee. It has a pretty nice patio area and I think the café makes good use of the oddly-shaped building, but their drinks have pretty hit or miss for me. The hot latte was delicious, but the iced coffee has been watery and bland on more than one occasion.

Place is as hipster as it gets. You walk into a small cozy dimly lit coffee shop where they serve in glasses not plastic.(Pretty legit) They also have bakery items such as cakes(which are cut into large pieces) so you better have a stomach for it. I like that they have poetry night on Sunday!

This is a quaint licensed coffee house in the trendy downtown Decatur shopping area. Service is slow with free wifi and a relaxed atmosphere. Not your typical urban coffee house; expect a lot of composting recycling artsy folk here. The teas are organic and poured fresh into the pouch for steeping; also was surprised by a nice selection of fresh bottled raw organic juices; nice touch.

«I remember when I was picking beans in Guatemala. We used to have fresh coffee, right off the vines. That was good. This is s**t, but I’m in a cop station.» — The Usual Suspects(1995) Always a fan of a good cup of coffee, Java Monkey did right by me. A quick stop in for a café mocha on a drizzly Saturday and I was ready for something to warm the soul. The place is on the smaller side — and you have to do a little maneuvering to get around the seating area when you first walk in. Once you make your way to the back — there is the bar to place your order. Also a bit on the cramped side, but effective. The staff was friendly and inviting, the coffee was delicious and the chairs were comfy, like being in my living room. Not a bad spot when hanging out in Decatur.
