Great authentic pub with great hosts. Large selection of Draft and bottle beer, extensive whisk(e)y selection and creative menu. We went with an innocuous sounding Rice bowl that was a perfect blend of flavors & Chicken 65(appetizer on menu but big enough for a meal) that was a Chicken bites in a terrific curry sauce. Highlight of the evening was a flight of whiskey $ 15. I will stop in next time I’m in the area.

This pub is such a tribute to authentic Irish pubs in America. It truly looks like a pub you would find in Ireland. Guinness is great and poured correctly and there is an incredible selection of whiskeys. I recommend the Green Spot, favorites whiskey ever! Wish this place nothing but continued success.

Just try to get service here. We were at the bar with 6 people and waited over 20-minutes. No acknowledgement, no service.

Worst(and smallest) fish sandwich ever. I would honestly rather have a Filet O’ Fish from McDonald’s than ever eat the one from here again. I was first shocked by how small the fish sandwich from here was. Then I took a bite… completely tasteless. Well, maybe it gets better after the first bite… nope, it actually got worse! Along with it being completely tasteless, the grossly soggy lettuce, the fish was completly soft/soggy/wet even. After the few bites I tried, I ended up throwing the rest away. The potato wedges(chips), and the chips with curry side were pretty bad too. The potatoes were dry, looked and tasted old, and had no seasning on them. My beau said that the bangers and mash that he had from here were good, but really really lack any seasoning. The portion of bread with house made butter is in no way worth the price they charge, even for a side. My beau will stick with the bangers and mash and I, the fish & chips from The Brewhouse in L5P. Or I’ll get the delicious fish sandwich from Three Dollar Café. It really seems like the person making the food at MacMcGee’s tonight just doesn’t care at all. Considering there are so many bar/pub type places in Atlanta(including at least a handful of other«Irish» ones), one would think that Mac McGee’s would at least try to keep the standards of their food pretty high. We had a really disappointing dinner from Mac McGee’s tonight, to say the least. Our food was delivered via Door Dash.

A decent irish pub in Decatur. Lacking in beer selection when compared to brick store pub which is like maybe less than 500 ft away. But its def less crowded and they do offer a great variety of whiskey. Def one to add to the list if you plan on bar crawling in the area.

I’m pretty new to whisk(e)y so I can really dig the flights that Mac McGee’s offers. They have a big-ass book full of whiskey. For a base price of $ 20, you get three choices. Some offerings are special or rare and if you choose it, you’ll have to add to the base price. They also have a $ 15 pre-selected flight on the chalkboard over the bar. Since my whiskey knowledge is limited, I typically ask the bartender to put something together for me and he or she will always do a great job. Service here is great — I have zero complaints. The downer for me is the food. It’s not great but not awful. Just kind of… adequate. And it never sits well with me, either. I’ve got a pretty tough stomach but I usually leave here with a tummyache. Boooo. All in all, I would totally recommend Mac McGee for drinks. Whiskey aside, they have a pretty good beer list with a fair selection of local brews. Service is friendly. And it usually flies under the radar given its trendier neighbors on the square.

This isn’t the place to go if you are eating healthy… But we did anyways. I tried the chicken chilly soup and the roasted brussel sprouts, and both were great. My date loved her Bloody Mary and pumpking ale, while I had a tasty local ipa and whiskey and ginger beer.(The whisk(e)y selection is expansive!) There isn’t a huge crowd on the weekdays, so it’s worth checking out. Note: the staff turned over recently, but the new guys seem to be pretty cool and knowledgeable.

The fish and chips was the most horrible choice. Fish was over fried with oil reused over and over again. Also the bangers and mashed were not even close to the regular. Plus it took forever for the food the come.

If you love whiskey this is your spot. If not, get the bees knees. Soooooo good. We got the chicken 65 and the fries apps. Both great and unique. Chicken was a little spicy but delecious and the fries had gravy and cheese! Enough said. Service was friendly and top notch.

MacMcGee is my favorite pub in Decatur, which is saying a lot when you have the likes of Brickstore and the Marlay House as close competitors. The pub is fairly small and cozy with a great pub ambiance. Although the beer list isn’t as varied as some of the other bars in the area, MacMcGee’s actually makes an effort to carry UK and Irish ales, which are oddly difficult to find in most Irish pubs these days as everyone seems to be carrying either all local breweries(most of which aren’t all that good), or hopped up California ales. I always know I’ll have a wide choice of nice sessionable ales at MacMcGee’s. In most other local bars, you have to choose between the one or two beers on the menu that aren’t 100 ibu IPAs. Non hop-heads need not apply. Other pros of MacMcGee’s: –Friendly bartenders and staff that take the time to talk to customers and get to know them –Very good pub food. Love the tandoor chicken. Never had a bad food experience here –Extremely expansive whiskey list at great prices. $ 15 featured flights everyday –The car repair girl in the guy’s bathroom. Classic. –Great special events. St. Paddy’s here is awesome, as is New Year’s, and Kentucky Derby Day. They had Founders KBS bottles for $ 5 this year, what the what?! –Never too crowded like the other big pub on the square. Can usually always find a nice place to sit at a table or bar So next time you’re walking around the Decatur square and notice the bright red façade beckoning you, heed the call, have a pint of bombardier or fullers, eat some tandoor chicken, sip a shot of scotch, and pat yourself on the back for being a man/woman of impeccable taste. You are an inspiration.

Best pub– pub fare anywhere. Not the beer selection of the brick store, but not the crushing crowd either. I do love the brisk store. Don’t get me wrong. Their whiskey selection is far above anywhere else’s.

My boyfriend and I spend a lot of time here. We both enjoy scotch a great deal, and if you are looking for a good selection, Mac McGee’s is about as good it gets! Nestled in Decatur square, the delightful pub serves up some of the most epic pub food ever from their scratch-made kitchen. Shepherds pie? Oh yes, with ground lamb and the most delicious mashed potatoes on top. Irish breakfast? Bring on the black pudding! Want a burger? All of them are massive and tasty! And you must absolutely try the poutine! Cheese curds, chips, and gravy. Bring a friend, because the serving size is huge! All of the bartenders are informative and helpful. Need help deciding what to drink? They can hook you up! Whether you have one of their low priced daily whiskey flight specials, or build your own flight from their binder full of whiskey, chances are you will find something you love. Not a whiskey fan? They have an awesome selection of local taps and bottles. The cocktails are also to die for — like Bloody Marys? Give the Bloody Mary Queen of Scots a try! Delicious twist on a classic cocktail. Overall I simply cannot say enough good things about Mac McGee. The pub has become a traditional hang out for me, and if you like an old style pub atmosphere, chances are it will for you, too! Be aware it can get quite loud and packed on busy nights, especially if there are events going on.

Four stars because it’s a proper pour for Guinness, great! We came in on a Saturday night around 8:30 and with the sole intention to get some bread pudding and drinks. Very busy and great vibe. It was nice to be in a happening spot with everyone laughing and having a good time. Ordered the bread pudding and surprised it came out as more of a brownie consistency. Ice cream on it was good. Drinks were good so…4 stars it is. I will go back to olde blind dog for my bread puddings from now on :)

Our second destination during my friend and I’s Decatur Adventures day! So when we came to Mac McGee, we had no idea they were a whisky specialty bar. However, the bartender was very nice and he was more than willing to explain the menu for us. We decided to get the Georgia Peach, Bloody Mary, and Scotch Eggs to munch on the side. It was actually my first time trying a bloody mary and I really liked it. I’m usually not a fan of tomato juice but the drink was quite delicious. I also liked my georgia peach since I love peach flavored drinks. Scotch eggs were great as well; it was interesting to eat a fried boiled egg! The atmosphere was a bit down and quiet when we visited but its probably because we went a little too early. I’m sure it gets more lively later on into the evening.

Came for lunch with some friends to celebrate a birthday. Food was decent. I could have used more corned beef and cabbage on my sandwich as the bread to content ratio was off(not enough filling!). What’s great about this place is their selection of Whisk(e)y. Very extensive book for those that want to explore their menu. Whisk(e)y flights come in 3’s. Only 1 server and 1 bartender for the lunch crowd so was a little hard to get service, but kudos to the 1 waitress.

What’s better on a chilly evening than a hearty bowl of delicious chicken and dumplings? Nothing. Except maybe a hearty bowl of poutine to go along with it and a Manhattan to wash it all down. If your layer of winter blubber is thin and you need something to stick to your ribs, go to Mac McGees. #wintersurvivalguide
