So I had to take a photo for my Emory card and I realized that it looked like a before picture for a hair cut. I felt a very sudden but strong urge to fix that so I needed a place I could get to quickly and immediately. A quick Unilocal search turned up dozens of trendy salons with attractive websites and since normally I love that stuff I was surprised when I realized I was calling Spirals to ask if they had a walk in appointment immediately. They were only half a mile away; it was rush hour and I knew even if I found a place with tons of great reviews that had a spot, it would take FOREVER to get there. And I just didn’t feel like making this haircut a THING. So I just said whatever, lets take a risk and go to this spot by public. I show up and Christopher sits me down and we start talking about my hair and what I want. I instinctively said trim because usually the stylist takes off more than I request. So he goes to work and we start chatting about the social scene in Atlanta. I’m new so he gives me all the ins and outs of it all and I love it. He is such an interesting and perceptive person. So my hair cut is done and it still looks kind of meh. I’m asking him what we could do about the bangs because they still look all wispy and damaged and gross. Then I suggest maybe we should cut more off. This relieved look washes over his face and I just know he was holding back but only because I had said trim only. I had to admit to him that I showed up guarded but our conversation had relaxed me and I trusted him enough to actually get to work on making my hair look more like an «after» picture. He gave me an awesome hair cut as soon as I stopped being controlling and letting him do is job. I was so happy with his work I smiled like a fool as soon as I saw how it looked. I felt SO much better with all of the dead split ends gone and the nasty frizzy bits that I had been in denial trimmed away. I guess I was putting off my haircut because I was resistant to change my appearance while transitioning to a new city but I totally just changed it for the better. The salon has a tanning section that I will probably never use. Interestingly all the stylists were men. The salon was much less sterile that most places you would see in a grocery store shopping center. It was a very diverse crowd and the prices were reasonable. Would definitely go back.
