Whitts Barbecue

I dont even know what to say. If I had not been craving bbq since leaving va beach I would have thrown this in the trash after the first bite and gone elsewhere! I love food, but I really can’t find much to like about this. I have eaten KC, Memphis, Texas and NC bbq and I can honestly say this was the worse I have ever put in my mouth.
The service was good and quick, and the 2″ piece of corn on the cob was tender and juicy, and the roll was fresh. That is why it has 2 stars.
Aside from that I can’t say anything good about the food. I got the combo with pork and ribs. With mouth watering I took a fork full of the pork after splashing it with the vinegar sauce (I think). I recoiled from it being so salty, and then the next bite was so bland I needed to add salt. There was absolutely NO flavor… But it wasnt dry! It seemed like it had been soaking in a watery grease.
The potatoe salad was less than ordinary, typical of what you would buy at a grocery store. The slaw was weird… It had what seemed like sugar water and a splash of white vinegar in it.
Now on to the ribs… They looked like they had been boiled and then set under a broiler for about a minute per side. NO seasoning at all and fairly greasy. If not for the 2 tablespoons of bbq sauce they included, they would have been uneatable.
I am so disappointed, not that the food was bad, that I didn’t throw it away and get something else. Now I have to wait til breakfast to get this taste out of my mouth!

Athens al. bbq very hard to beat anywhere in America highly recommend it try the pork sandwich with thin sauce no mayo and a sweet tea best tea in the world

Do you won’t the best «Bama Style» pulled pork sandwich in Alabama? This is your place. I’ve been eating here since I was a child, and I am pleased that to this day over 30 years later they are still the shizzle. I know what I’m talking about, hence I grew up in the south and I have visited the best bbq styles around the country, and I was the kitchen manager and pit master at restaurants like Jim N’ Nicks bbq and have consulted many bbq restaurants in their opening ventures. EVERYTHING here is always amazing, my only complaint is that I wish they had picnic tables outside so when I’m out and about I don’t have to eat in my car. Otherwise, service is quick and consistent with a strong emphasis on value, bbq, family, local, love, passion, and southern hospitality at it’s fullest. Roll Tide!

I love the BBQ at Whits! I grew up getting this stuff and haven’t been able to find a better BBQ restaurant (even after moving to much bigger cities that have tons of great BBQ restaurants). The flavor is excellent and there rarely is much fat in the meat. They also have excellent pulled chicken if you’re looking for something besides BBQ. This is a must try place and you are really missing out if you don’t give it a try. The food here won’t disappoint, it’ll have you coming back for more

I’m a simple eater… I only get the pulled pork sandwich… ask for it PLAIN otherwise you will get slaw/​chow on top which ruins the sandwich IMHO… anyways, you would think their homemade sauce would be better than what it is… it is waaaay too watery for my taste, so I carry Arby’s sauce in my truck glove box and just put that on it or Tabasco.
Their buildings need to be painted/​sided, but don’t judge the sandwich on that, they are tasty.

Every time I am in town, I have to get my BBQ fix. In the past I would always get the pulled pork sandwich or the chicken, both of these items are always good. The last time I was in town, I was going to a friends house and decided to pick up the normal Pulled pork and chicken, I also added an order of the ribs. Holy Cow! I had been missing out all of these years, the BBQ Ribs were some of the best ribs I have ever tasted. My mouth waters just thinking about them. Unfortunately I cannot indulge until I am back in town again but I will definitely make Whitts one of my stops.

Fantastic smokehouse barbeque on the cheapy cheaps at this drive through /​walk up BBQ joint. I personally like much better than Gibsons even though they don’t have Brisket. Also, this location has picnic benches to eat at so you can sit down.
