Sarah is the go to girl! It can be so hard to find someone you trust with your hair, but she really executed exactly what I wanted. Truly amazing talent. Plus a pleasure to be in her chair!

I got my hair done last week at philosophe and I am so pleased with the experience! Not only is the salon adorable, the staff was so cool and pleasant to be around. I loved the décor and enjoyed sipping on the green tea while I read a magazine on one of the nooks they had on their table. The color they used on my hair was amazing — I went darker and the brown they used was so rich. The cut is exactly what I wanted. I also really liked how my stylist(Christina) also has a goal for my hair. Lovely experience and I will be back! :-)

The best haircut I have gotten since living in the Boston area. Christina explains what she is doing and why so that you can get to know your hair and better care for it. It was really helpful in allowing me to better reproduce the styling she did, which I have never been able to do with other stylists. It took the mystery out of good hair.

I love this place! Christina, the owner, is amazing. This is not your average hair salon. The owner and her staff are so creative, and their attention to detail and style is as evident in the décor as it is in their personalize service. Christina is a master stylist. She really spends time to figure out what you want in a hair cut and then can translate that look, no matter your hair type. If you are looking for a quick generic boring hair cut this place may not be for you, but if you are looking for a salon that offers personalized style in a funky and fun atmosphere… this is the place! Seriously, if you live near by this should be your neighbor salon.

Philosophé holds as much talent as it does charm. Let’s start with atmosphere; there are plain salons, there are pretty salons, and then there is Dedham’s Funky Parisian Carnival of imagination & beauty: Philosophé. I really can’t describe it any other way. Christina, the owner and master stylist, has created a place that takes you away from the world for a few hours. A carefully curated décor marrying vintage Paris with edgy mid-mod funk tickles all your senses as your eyes are being pulled around the space. While you are being serviced, you are offered delights such as tea in antique bone china teacups. I’ll take it! There are magazines galore, but if you’re more of a free-roaming techie, they’ve got iPads for you to search cuts, colors, trends or just keep you occupied while your color permeates. Even the bathroom is stunning, for real, I could hang out in there. Okay, and to the ultimate reason that I keep coming back to this place: Talent. I have tricky, fine hair and it’s hard to create the illusion of fullness. Christina spends time getting to know you and your hair. I can spit out nonsensical sentence fragments of what I want(I think last time all I said was: Madewell Catalogue model… Whoops) but the artist in Christina is able to translate any ideas into something beautiful. She gives me beautiful cuts & colors and makes sure I know how to style it myself. I followed this salon from Norwood to Dedham and if they decide to relocate to Scandinavia, well I’ve always wanted a reason to wear wooden shoes. Great place, great staff!

I am new to the area and decided to try this place for a hair cut. Christina took care of me, I have to say, she’s an artist and have a great personality. Not only I got a fantastic hair cut but also the atmosphere in the salon is very pleasant with a very unique deco. I recommend to try it!

I was excited to go back to get my hair done 3 weeks after my first appointment. Unfortunately, my experience was not positive. The salon was very busy. I waited ½ hour for Christina to finish with her client to take me. I wasn’t thrilled, but she was so good the first time so I was ok with waiting. When one of the staff brought me over to the color table, Christina stayed with her client but was close enough to talk to me. She asked if I was staying with the same color. I told her I was. Then she told me Gail would be doing my color. I booked the appointment with Christina and that is who I wanted. I wasn’t happy. But, I figured if I was doing the same color it was fine. Gail went to mix my color. She came back and told Christina my color wasn’t written down from my first visit. Ugh! Such a pain bc Christina and I spent a lot of time talking about what color I wanted on my first appointment. She was able to get the color I wanted my first appointment and I was thrilled with the result. I told Gail I wanted the same color. Christina never came over to help Gail figure out the color and she never apologized to me for not writing it down. She kept cutting her client’s hair. Gail went to mix the color. She came back and told me she was going to wash my hair and then apply. I have stubborn gray and I told her last time Christina applied it dry. So she applied it dry and it took forever. Two hours after I arrived she washed my hair. Two hours for a single process. Actually, it wasn’t even a single process. It was a gloss. I still had to get a haircut. I sat down for a haircut and waited for Christina to quickly eat lunch before she cut it. She asked if I wanted to keep the length. I said definitely. It was past my shoulders. She gave me a good wet cut and styled it and then said she was just going to clean it up now that it was dry. I thought it looked good but I figured she was just going to trim a tiny bit. She cut and cut and cut! Ugh! My hair barely goes into a ponytail and she did a lot of razor like cuts so it looks funny in a ponytail. She also really thinned out my hair by doing that technique and I already have thin hair. My hair just skims my shoulders now. I was at the salon for 3 hours and 15 minutes for a gloss and haircut. I have young kids and don’t have time to spend that much time at a salon. That’s twice as long than my old salon. Just a note, my first appointment was for a single process only and I was at the salon for 3 ½ hours. Anyway, when I got home from my 2nd appointment my kids and husband couldn’t believe my hair. I went into the salon a dark blond with highlights and came home with medium brown hair and no highlights. I was so disappointed. I was there for way too long and just wanted to leave so I didn’t say anything. Today I went online to book a highlight for Tue. I wanted Christina to know I was unhappy with the color. I decided not to make the appointment bc I don’t have 3 hrs open on Tue to get it done. I made an appt with another salon for highlights. During my entire appointment Christina was coloring someone’s hair, cutting someone else’s hair, threading eyebrows for 2 ladies, eating a quick lunch, and talking to a hair product salesman. She told me during my first appointment and my last appointment that she is never on time. If I book an appointment with a stylist I expect to get my services done by that stylist. $ 135 plus tip and my hair is a mess. Now, I have to pay another $ 100 tomorrow to get highlights at a different salon. Such a bummer bc Christina is very nice and the salon is close to home. I feel badly about changing my rating because the salon is relatively new and Christina is so nice. Looks like this won’t be my new salon after all!

One of a kind experience at this salon. No pretentious cold sterile environment here. Walking in is like going to your best friends house and having amazing, professional services done. The decorum is classy, vintage, warm and inviting. Christina’s passion for her work shows with each service she performs. There is so much unique vintage designs in the salon, you could admire for hours. They even provide the little touches of serving you coffee and snacks on a silver platter with adorable glassware. An experience you must try! There’s also a seating area with complimentary nooks with wifi!

Sarah is just amazing!!! I usually only get my hair cut once per year, back in California. However, I found this place on a run one night, and decided that it was just too chic/adorable to not stop in. Fast forward one week and one AWESOME hair cut later, and I am now totally hooked. You know how when you walk into some salons, you are made to feel like you are either part of the club or an outsider? And you know how some stylists make you feel like you should be grateful to be allowed to even walk in their front doors? NOTHERE!!! Christina, the owner, and the other stylists could not have been more welcoming. I felt like I had been going there for years, and like we were all old friends. Curly hair ladies… Sarah is your woman! She did a wonderful job listening to exactly what I wanted and using her creative license to give my hair a bit more pa-zazz(the technical term for style, volume, and low maintenance). I cannot wait for my next appointment, and definitely will be getting my hair cut more than annually from now on. Thank you Philosophe!
