Most comprehensive CSA around. We’ve gotten our pet milk, meats, and produce from them all at different times but have since decided to make them our one stop shop food place. We recently purchased their Meat and More CSA which includes produce, eggs, meat, cheese, and either noodles or nut butters. They have a few options to pick up the food; we’ve used a host home before which was very convenient but since we’ve moved, their Franklin Farmers market location is closest. Although, it’s not as convenient(because you have to pick it up during certain hours), it allows us to make a trip of it which makes picking up our organic fresh food that much more fun. It’s definitely more expensive than the local grocery stores but for the quality of food we feel it’s worth it.

So disappointed! Our last order was missing two steaks, the bulk of the order. There was no communication why the steaks were not there, we called immediately and were told they would investigate the situation and get back with us. No one contacted us and we were four business days out from our order pickup, so we called again. The girl we talked to remembered our situation and was not apologetic for never contacting us back. Their supplier had run out and we were still charged for the steaks. The obvious thing is to refund the money immediately, right? No, they offered a credit towards our next order. Not only had we already decided we would not order from them again because of this, but the steaks were part of our meal plan for the current two weeks. We are a small family trying to eat healthy on a budget, we don’t have the money to buy more steaks elsewhere to replace the missing ones we already paid for. If we would have taken the credit, we wouldn’t have received the steaks(assuming they even had them in stock when we ordered again) until after this two weeks were over. When my husband refused to accept the offer for store credit, the girl had to call us back again. We were doubtful she’d even call back, so when the end of the business day came, my husband called them again. no answer. Then he posted on their Facebook page and we got a call twenty minutes later with a full refund. Oh, and they deleted the Facebook comment. How honest. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the first time meat was missing from one of our orders. I called immediately that time too and no one ever answered the phones. I emailed twice and never got a response. No magical non-communicated credit showed up in my account either. It’s a shame, I’ve enjoyed the stuff we actually did receive from them. But I can’t trust and rely on them, and their customer service is awful. I researched a lot about this farm before purchasing from them and was really excited to use them for our local meats. I’m so disappointed in the experience we’ve had and cannot believe how they’ve handled this. Don’t mess with them unless you enjoy staying on someone to correct their own mistakes or throwing your money out of the window.

Moving to Memphis I had certain preconcieved ideas of what it would be like… and one of my misconceptions was that I wouldn’t find quality organic foods. West Wind Farms is amazing! Having lived in Chicago, Florida, and Los Angeles, I have NEVER found a provider with the variety and quality of organic food stuffs anywhere. For the first time I have found organic prepared foods(the meatloaf and lunchmeats) and they are all fanastic. Their products are great, its good for the environment, and they are great people.

As far as quality beef goes, they’re in a class above. Grass-fed ribeye steaks bone-in or boneless, either way they’re awesome. It’s expensive but worth it. Check them out at the Franklin Farmer’s Market on the weekends or order for local delivery.

West Wind Farms deserves a nod for being Tennessee’s only current producer of certified organic meat and poultry. Every week, the owners make the 2 hour plus journey from east of Cookeville to provide Nashvillians with local organic meat. Like many other farmers, their wares are available on Saturdays at the Franklin Farmers’ Market and on Wednesdays at the Turnip Truck’s East Nashville Farmers’ Market. Anyone who thinks that a mass produced hormone filled, antibiotic, shipped from who knows where steak can taste as good as one locally and naturally raised, I issue you a challenge: try one from West Wind Farms. This steak is amazing, and it tastes like real steak. That might sound stupid, but until you’ve tried a steak like this, you didn’t know what steak really tasted like. If you want, you can even order a «whole order of beef» which is essentially a whole cow: 375lbs of beef. If that’s just a smidge too much, you can also do a half order, each of which is cut to your specifications. For those of us more sparing in our beef needs, there are several packs available, including different cuts of steak, ground beef and burgers. You can also order specific cuts by the pound. There’s a family pack containing 26lbs of beef available for $ 160. West Wind Farms definitely has variety when it comes to meat; they are practically the entire meat section of your grocery store — probably more because they also have«Chevon» or goat meat and lamb too. Usually the only lamb you’ll see in the meat section is from New Zealand. This is from Tennessee! There are also sausages made from all the varied meats listed above, including a delicious sounding pork and sage breakfast sausage, which I must order very soon. The thought of it is making my mouth water! I don’t have enough good things to say about West Wind Farms. Check out their website before you talk to them at either of the farmers’ markets and get an idea of the full range of their products so you can make an informed choice about what you want, otherwise you’ll probably get overwhelmed by the choices available.
