I have been using this company for years. I couldn’t believe that they didn’t have more Unilocal reviews… so let me tell you WHY I’ve used them all this time!
They are very reasonable AND they know what they are doing. It’s tough to evaluate a business when you don’t know much about what they do. Because of an old job with a utility company, I have something called a Manual J certification in AC/​duct design, so I was VERY PICKY in choosing my contractor. I called MANY looking for one that was certified and could only identify a handful. Most AC companies don’t have Manual J certification — it’s not necessary to work, most consumers have no idea what it is anyway, and it’s costly and time consuming to seek out extra certifications and education.
A Manual J certification means that your contractor went to the bother of getting extra education and doesn’t have to just guess at the right system for your home. It means that, if needed for more complex installations or problems («this room is always hot no matter what I do!») they are able to calculate the specifics of your situation — down to the type of windows, insulation, doors, building materials, duct placement, even window direction (because a room with an east facing room gets hotter than one facing north or south, right?) and every other little factor — in order to determine what you need for YOUR house on YOUR lot with YOUR particular challenges.
You don’t always NEED a full Manual J assessment, and they are more common in commercial applications — but I am happy to trust someone who is familiar with those more advanced concepts to do work for me in my home too!
I first met Gary & Kool Ray when I was remodeling my home. In addition to an AC replacement I needed an exhaust run from a commercial grade gas range that wasn’t on an easy-​to-​access exterior wall. Many AC contractors will not do this sort of work. Kool Ray does.
It’s now almost 12 years later. I’ve never had a problem with either the AC or the exhaust venting that they’ve installed. Over the years they’ve handled repairs and maintenance fairly and promptly. If I have a problem, Gary, the owner is hands-​on and will solve it.
They are great about being up front about cost vs benefit. There are some AC ducts that weren’t located in optimal spots in my home (by the original builder). They discussed the cost of moving them and advised me that it wouldn’t be worth it, even though this would have been a pricey job for them. Over the years they’ve even called me about rental properties to tell me that they’ve gotten a notice from their AC manufacturers that they will be raising prices by a certain date due to an increase in materials cost… they called to warn me and ask if I needed any units replaced in rentals before the price increases took effect!
You can’t find customer service like that in many places!
I’ve made many referrals to them and everyone has always been thrilled with them. Highly Highly recommended!

Why does the AC always go down in the summer? This time Kool-​Ray could not patch for us but gave us a fair deal on a new system. They filled out all the paperwork for an instant rebate. Been working with Gary for years. Very trustworthy. They may not spend a lot of money like other companies on billboards and radio ads but they are reliable, trustworthy and fair. Thanks guys. Would never live in Florida without AC. Don’t know how early pioneers did it.
