This is the first time I’m eating here and I have to say that the food is really good. It is also very cheap which is very good for my wallet! The staff is very pleasant and super polite. They have a large amount of items on the menu to satisfy anyone’s appetite. I would recommend this place to anyone that is in the area looking for a good lunch!

#hotdamn 43 years and still going strong. Tony’s is an institution! I first visited here in the early 80’s. Not much has changed and my fat free half tuna sub really hit the spot. Lots of memories from my Northshore Days. Northshore Ways are stirred up when I visit my old stomping grounds. Happy to see some things just don’t change… which often is a good thing too.

The guy would ask me what I wanted and then would start talking in Spanish over me. He then would ask again, what do you want to order? I would start to talk and yet again he would talk over me in Spanish. The third time he asked me I just kept talking over him. As a first time customer who has heard good things about this place. I will most likely not be returning. Customer service and being polite is more important to me, there are plenty of good sub shops in the area.

Large variety of fresh made sandwiches. A daily lunch special that never disappoints. And food ready fast, for when you are looking for a quick lunch. I highly recommend the chili. It is superb. I aim to become a regular here and ideally have a sandwich named after me.

It’s amazing that they open up at 8am for subs. I’ve never been there that early in the morning but it’s a great place for a good submarine sandwich. They use good deli meats and just a hint of onions in with their lettuce. I like just the use of oils so no mayo or mustard for me. I’ve only had their cold sandwiches so can’t speak for their Italian beef or sausage or other hot sandwiches. You can order ahead online, too. They have a great value coupon on for $ 20 at half off.

I support local sandwiches, but this place is a toss up to me. Be warned the whole sub is an enormous beast definitely suitable for two people. The sub was filled to the brim with meats! I opted for the original launcher which came with cold cuts. Although the quantity was plentiful, I am pretty sure one of the meats was extremely over salted, which really destroyed my taste buds to enjoy the sandwich. It was definitely OK /acceptable and worth the bang for your buck, but I expected it to be a little better given the local following.

I have to give Tony’s 5 stars not just for the subs but for the nostalgia too. I’ve been coming here for over 40 years, first as a teenager with my friends, now as an adult, making the 20 minute drive when I get the craving. The taste is still the same, the meat is piled high and the service is quick. I’m going to be moving out of state and will miss the place very much.

Now I’ve been coming here since High School and the experience hasn’t changed. Tony’s Subs are a North Shore staple and I’m glad that it’s still around. I’ve moved away and it’s a little bit of a drive to get there but well worth the drive. The service and ambiance are exactly as I remembered from many years ago. The food is still high quality and plentiful and to be honest, I don’t think the interior has changed a bit. But, that’s what makes it great! The menu has changed over the years with the addition of a few subs but the old standbys are still there! My parents live in Florida and every year we visit, my father still asks me to stop by Tony’s and get a few for them!

I’ve been going to Tony’s for almost 40 years. Love the place. Used to ride my bike there when I was 8 to pick up dinner for the family. My brothers and I would carry our bikes across the train tracks behind the restaurant. We used to live on this place!

We go here quite regularly. It’s just great subs. The amount of meat and fixings you get is miles beyond what Subway offers and for a comparable price. Lunch time is super busy, so I recommend ordering beforehand for pick-up or going during off peak hours. Not really much of a sit-down place anyway. We’ve tried a variety of their subs, all good. Chili cheese fries and shakes are standard, but good as well.

I had been here about 3 or 4 times. The first sub or 2 were pretty average, and the 3rd one was so-so, but my 4th visit will be my last one. I am anything but an «I’d like to speak to a manager» kind of person. I’m a 23 year-old man who just wants his food, damn it. But I made an account just to post my experience. I’ve never posted a review for anything before. I walk in and the place isn’t busy at all during the afternoon. I politely asked them(since there are no descriptions of the sandwiches) what the difference was between the Mixed Italian and the Mixed American. The response I got was a little condescending, dude goes«Well one is called the Mixed Italian, and the other is called the Mixed American.» It wasn’t an attempt to crack a light-hearted joke, he definitely was trying to poke fun at me. Doubt he says that if I’m 40. Just pickin on the young guy I guess. He then shows me what’s on them on a piece of paper next to where the prep the sandwiches. Then the other employee next to him asks me as I’m ordering if I want chips in a very sarcastic tone(since I clearly must be a moron because I don’t know what meats goes on a Mixed Italian or Mixed American, that I need help deciding if I want to grab chips next go the cash register), and the other employee interrupts and is all«OOOH come on let’s not pick on the kid.» Something along those lines. It was an awkward exchange because they made it that. I didn’t show it on my sleeve but I was starting to feel uncomfortable. He preps the sandwich, asks what kind of cheese I want on it, and I tell him American cheese. I tell him it’s for here, and he doesn’t ring it up on the cash register and he tells me «ten.» I was confused because I always remembered it being 9 something each time I had been there. So I ask, «10 on the dot?» and he’s like«Yea.» So I give him the 10 and don’t argue, and this point I’m feeling even more uncomfortable like I’ve done something wrong, so I didn’t argue it. Turns out I’m not the only one who hasn’t received there change according to a few reviews I read on Urbanspoon. That’s incredibly rude. So then I’m eating my sandwich and after a few bites I notice there wasn’t ANY cheese on my sandwich even though he had asked me what cheese I wanted!!! I was so pissed at this point. I peeled back all of the layers of the sandwich. Was this some kind of joke? He MUST have done it on purpose. How would he have forgotten to put on the cheese? I have no idea why he would do that to me. I can swear to you that I was acting polite. There was no reason for him to not give me my change back or put cheese on my sandwich. I was so mad, I’ve never felt so disrespected like that, after I left my blood was really boiling. 95% of the time I doubt this guy acts like a jerk. I don’t know. He must have been having a bad day. He seemed aight the first few times I went. But I guess my first impression was wrong. Unless you’re a regular and love this place, I wouldn’t recommend it. To be honest, bad experience aside, their subs aren’t that good. The turkey is very low quality. Almost rubbery. The bread is pretty tough. I would take Jersey Mike’s or Jimmy John’s any day of the week over Tony’s. So yea just felt like putting this out there. It was truly a bad experience at this place for me. I felt so disrespected and uncomfortable while I was there. It was puzzling. Perhaps he was jealous because I must have had the day off since I was dressed casually or something on a weekday? I honestly don’t know. Unless you’ve been a loyal regular for a long time, you might have the same experience that I did.

Okay this place was fantastic! I had the corned beef with everything and it hit the spot. Perfect balance of meat, bread, seasonings!

Tony’s is just ‘okay’. I really only go to Tony’s when I’m desperate for a sub,(especially since I do NOT like subway). Ingredients are subpar. Especially the bread. The bread is always hard and crusty, and not the fresh kind of crusty. The fries always have a lingering taste of rancid fry oil which is very unappealing. If I really want a decent sub I will have to drive to Famos.

This place has really good subs. I kinda discovered it by accident while driving by it one day and was very impressed. It’s easy to miss bc it’s so small but it is located right near the HS so it’s in a good spot. A nice alternative to the chains for sure.

Honestly, I’m at 3.5 stars, but I’m a round up kinda guy. My students appreciate that at least. Good, yes. Great, no. Definitely the best option in the area, but by no means life changing. Lots of meat on the subs. Not super high quality or anything, but it satisfies. I think it’s funny when people go so negative. It’s a freaking sub shop. Take some of the bologna off if you hate it so much. I mean, there is 10 oz of meat on there. Take a little off, chubs. All sides are baked, not fried. Service is fine. Once again, it’s a freaking sub shop. Relax, folks. They do have frequent diner reward cards also. Unless you want to drive 15 minutes in a different direction or want subway, this is your spot for a sub sandwich.

No more worries from me, I just got done with a Ham & Turkey and it was as good as ever so I’m giving back the 5 star rating it deserves. Apparently the last time I was there they had an off day. Today with a long line that reached the door I should have known better than to doubt this sub joint. I even got a smile from the guy who made my sub when I forgot my ‘punch-card’ that they now offer. Buy 10 subs get one free. Piece of cake for this guy.

Go here for a traditional style hoagie or submarine on a fresh Gonella white submarine roll. The lunch traffic in this place is a bunch of white and blue collar guys who know how they like their subs. The ordering line is designed to move those white subs, because the small and regular size are premade with lettuce & tomato and ready for your meat choice. I had a lite tuna sub on a whole wheat roll. Don’t order that. It was bland and bready. I guess regulars know to order the sub on the standard white Gonella roll. There are about 15 different sub types on the menu which come in three sizes. I have to try this place again to find out why it’s rated as possibly the best sub shop on the north shore. I’m zero for one on this front.

Can you walk to this place, no. Can you easily drive past this place, yes. Is it worth a trip, yup. This place is not much to look at from the outside. In fact my wife was a little shocked when I took her there. There is some seating outside and some on the inside. There are about 15 different subs, mostly different permutations of about 6 different lunch meats. But its so good, and they put so much meat on the sandwich. I’m pretty sure it would cost me more to buy all the meat and make these at home. But if you want more, they do Italian beefs and sausages(and a combo). All are solid and full of flavor. I’m not sure what brand they use or if they are making their own, but well worth it. Plus you can get a chocolate malt(could be a little more chocolaty) and Carol’s cookies. I’m not going to another sub shop while this place is so close to home

I come here for two things, the launcher sub and the Italian Beef sammies. They PILE the meat onto the launcher when it comes to subs, so if you like cold sub sandwiches with piled high meat on a delicious sub roll, this place is great. The Italian Beef is phenomenal… In my opinion, it’s better than Al’s Italian beef. I get mine with Mozz cheese every time. Unlike Al’s or other places that dip the entire bread in juice, Tony’s uses just enough just on the inside to soften up the bread but not turn it into a soggy mess. YUM!

Come for the food and not for the chat. I’ve been meaning to get to this place. I honestly kept forgetting about it, because it’s a bit off the beaten path. Thank you hubby for remembering, because I had a feeling in my gut it would be fantastic. And yes it was! We picked our kids up from school today and went for a sub sandwich journey. Tired… oh so tired… of Subway, I was delighted to try something new and different. It was a huge success. This place is pretty divey, but I have to tell you, it’s clean. Of course I asked my kids if they needed to pee at home before our venture and they said«no.» Of course when we got to Tony’s, they had to pee. I was scared… so very scared to open the unmarked red door. Was it a bathroom? A closet? I thought for sure it would be disgusting, and it wasn’t at all. Whew! A clean bathroom in a dive is a good sign in my book(what book anyway?). We opted for three turkey subs and a giant… I mean giant… dill pickle for my husband since he already ate. There’s a reason this place has been around for more than 20 years. It’s because the food quality is outstanding. For $ 5.99 we each got combos — fresh Gonnella sub rolls filled with piled high turkey, cheese, the fixins, shredded lettuce(the really messy kind), a bag of chips, and a 20oz. drink. Hello?! Fresh, flavorful, and hands down way better than the other sub shop staple I’m tired of. And, I’m still full! The hours are interesting. I’m obsessed with wondering what people order at 8AM in the morning? I stared down the menu thinking there must be a breakfast sandwich, but I’m guessing it’s probably so people can pick up their lunch before they start their day. Smart people. I noticed a sign hanging from the ceiling advertising 3 – 6 foot sub trays for parties and events. Great for game day, graduation day, family picnic events, etc. Ok, the service. They are fast and to the point here. No time or interest for clever conversation. Don’t expect a thank you or anything of the sort. If you are looking for love, you might want to go elsewhere. Honestly I didn’t know whether to be annoyed or laugh at how unfriendly the guy behind the counter was. But, I came prepared for this after reading some of the other reviews. Imagine for a moment the scene from the original Willy Wonka movie when Gene Wilder is sitting at his desk with his back to Charlie. Gene just sits there and ignores Charlie because he messed up with the bubble drink. That’s kind of how I felt about the service here. Probably will take it to go next time. Oh, I should mention there’s a gas station on the premises if you want to really fill up.
