Very welcoming with great ambiance. The sushi is fresh and well prepared. A large selection of rolls. The 911 roll is presented on a flaming platter and tastes amazing. The udon was as it should be. The selection of specialty rolls sets this place apart.

Good. You should give it a try. We just started trying food out in this area. Typically we get Sushi in larger city areas, so I was surprised that there was a decent sushi place out in the country.
The quality is pretty good, and the flavors are good as well.

Order the sushi dinner for two. The albacore tuna and red snapper nigiri were my favs. Great place to go for a birthday: deep fried ice cream was delightful! Tuna, tuna, tuna… yum

This restaurant has been a friendly oasis for a traveler. My colleagues and I have been welcomed and enjoyed great sushi in the most unlikely place. It just goes to show, nowhere is all that far from anywhere.
Haro of Japan is a must stop place every time we are in Sycamore. Don’t miss it.
My favourite is the Kiss of Fire. You just have to figure out your own. :)

The service was really great. I was not a fan of the ginger dressing on the house salad. It wasn’t as sweet as the ginger dressing I’ve tried at other sushi restaurants. I also didn’t think the miso soup was as good as other sushi restaurants I’ve been to. We tried the Firecracker and White Dragon Rolls. Both were large and delicious. You will spend a bit of money here, but for good sushi you always will.

Went here for lunch with family and had great service.
I ordered the Philadelphia and Love Love rolls. The sushi appeared to be fresh and was delicious. Miso soup was great.
Only complaint was the music was a little distracting and loud.

Very nice staff and the food was very good. The sushi rolls were done right and tasted so good. To have a place like this is Dekalb is like a little slice of Chicago. So happy to have it. The inside was very nice and clean. The staff greeted us when we came in and were very attentive. We will be coming back.

Had an early Valentine’s dinner here yesterday AND was pleasantly surprised by a really enjoyable feast! My husband and I hadn’t stopped in since the restaurant went under new management. I have to say it is 100% better than before– food, décor and atmosphere. We tried the tuna tataki, california rolls, shumai, beef hibachi and beef bimimbop — everything was excellent! The staff was very attentive too. Thanks for a great night!

Amazing sushi! The prices are excellent for the quality and quantity of the food you’re getting. Every time we go, we pick three menu items and it is around $ 5 — $ 10 cheaper than going to a restaurant that sells American food, even with an employee discount.
They have lunch and dinner menus on weekdays. Most of the menu is the same but there are lunch specials. The dinner menu is bigger, but all the sushi available doesn’t change.
The sushi is very fresh and tastes wonderful. I’ve ordered about 4 different types of rolls, and they were excellent. I had the fried pork and fried chicken, both amazing. It comes with a scoop of rice, Japanese potato salad, house salad, and miso soup. The soup is to die for! It’s very tasty and you can tell this is fresh, not microwaved or leftover.
They also serve a selection of Korean dishes! I haven’t tried any yet, but next time I go, I am definitely going to get something Korean.
We also came in for my boyfriend’s birthday and they gave us a tempura fried ice cream as a special treat from the chef.
They have very friendly service and they check up on how you’re doing enough times that it’s completely comfortable. They also have Japanese and Korean music playing in the restaurant. When you leave the restaurant, everyone who is working makes sure to say farewell.
I love this place more than Fushi Yami and Mikimoto, I just wish they were open on Sundays.

Me and my family frequently travel in to genva/​st. Charles area for sushi, not anymore. This place was fantastic. The staff was on point. The waitress was so sweet and knowledgeable. The sushi was fantastic and the bento boxes were delish. It was so good that two days after eating in we called and got take out. The fried rice was amazing. I can’t wait to go eat there again.

Got the teriyaki bento box. I was amazed, it was to die for, very good value for the money and everything was delicious. Meso soup was amazing. Décor is beautiful. Well done guys, keep up the good work.

Let me stay of by saying I’m not a fan of sushi but…
We went to Haro for my son’s birthday and I was totally blown away. I ordered the chicken teriyaki which was good, but sitting at the bar watching the chef prepare the sushi was the real treat. The presentation was outstanding!
When the chef heard I didn’t like raw fish he prepared a veggie roll for me that was incredible! He also made another roll (which we didn’t order) in honor of the birthday we were celebrating. The chef and other staff truly cared about our dining experience.
This was well worth the money and I can’t wait to go back.

The new management has really made this place 100X better! I can tell the fish quality is much MUCH better, the miso soup is the right temperature, and the service is a lot better.
What to order: For an appetizer I enjoy the golden shrimp; not many sushi restaurants make this anymore, and this place does it well! For my main dish I like to get the 3 maki rolls for $ 15, and it comes with soup and salad with the signature ginger dressing. Miso soup is one of my favorites, and here it is really good and just the right temperature *with the old management it used to be room temperature and was gross eating it.* The sushi rolls are great and it is the perfect amount of food to fill you up! We have not ordered desert here yet, but the new management usually gives us something complimentary which is always a bonus! Last time we were in we got complimentary cucumber with shaved crab on top and it was very nice. only place we ever go for GOOD sushi! :)

First visit, even though I’ve noticed the lunch sign many times.
I was greeted right away, as the staff shouts a greeting to every guest as they walk in. Ordered the noodle and sushi lunch. Then, as my order was handed (two hands) to me, I noticed a marinated raw shrimp sushi on special and ordered that too.
The lunch special was good: no surprises, exactly what I ordered, and fresh! The marinated shrimp sushi was awesome! Great flavor and texture.
Lastly, I wanted to be cranky with the server for not automatically taking my finished plates. But… When I inquired about an unknown fish at the sushi bar; it was albacore; she asked the sushi chef to give me a piece to try! Ok, I loved her for that bite of generosity! And, the Albacore, seared and seasoned just 1 cm around the edges, may now be my favorite sashimi of all.
I’m definitely returning for lunch or dinner.

Went in during the lunch period, just after 1:00 p.m. The service was fast and attentive. The waitress was always around if we needed something. Our order arrived timely and presented to perfection. There was plenty of food for two. I finished the meal feeling satisfied. The cherry on top came when I received the bill. It was an exceptional dining experience and a pleasant surprise at under $ 40 including tip, for one of their higher end meals. I will definitely put it on my list of regular places to eat when I’m in Sycamore.

Ate here for lunch. Service was very, very good. They are clearly intent on ensuring a good experience from a service standpoint.
Unfortunately the environment wasn’t great. It was a little on the warm stuffy side, and the music was too loud, contemporary and tinny sound. Authentic Japanese music would be a huge improvement. So, on that particular day, hot and noisy.
Miso soup is not near as good as when under previous ownership. Didn’t have that hearty taste. Entrée’s were ok but I didn’t really detect any notable improvement. Will eat there
again for sure, but it just didn’t have that over the top feel.
ps — 30 bucks for 2 entrée’s plus tip; seems about the same as previous owners charged.

Haru’s new owners SERIOUSLY upped their game. The new menu is awesome, spicy mayo finally got changed to real spicy mayo, and they were super polite and friendly. Love it.

This is my first time trying Haru of Japan and I am very happy I did.
Because I needed a sushi-​fix, I got the California roll and spicy tuna roll to-​go. I can’t speak to the whole menu, but I can say what I have noticed so far.
The staff greeted me kindly when I came in. The guy who makes the sushi made sure to say hi from across the restaurant. The inside is decorated nicely, is clean, and the lighting makes for good ambiance. The prices were reasonable, especially because the sushi tastes FRESH. Having fresh sushi is the most important thing at a Japanese restaurant. Whatever mixture they are using to make the spicy tuna is awesome. You can taste the tuna and it has a good kick. It also comes prepared nicely and neatly.
If I lived 5 minutes away from here like my parents do, I would be eating here once a week and exploring more of the menu. I’m willing to bet that many other items are worth trying.

This place was fantastic. The sushi was so fresh and they had some pretty interesting rolls. Very reasonably priced as well. The only downside is I live so far away!
