Stopped by this place on a 30 mile group ride out to the airport. Inside is like stepping back into time. Inside, you may find knick knacks, dusty old paperbacks, tools, junk food, and other random stuffs. Outside, there are friendly cats lounging on cardboard boxes. And defunct gas pumps and a really rusty old truck. If you are ever in this area, you should stop by for a soda.

If you want peacock feathers, conspiracy theories and natural healing tips, this is where you’ll find them. I just love old places. I posted a Unilocal thread, which led me to posting on craigslist, which led to the suggestion to call Michalk’s Grocery. I called and sure enough, they have peacocks running around, and sold me the shed feathers for the best price in town. It’s an old little building, established in the early 1900s, with pictures of it way back in the day, horse and buggy and all. Everyone who came in while I was there was handed exactly what they came for, without asking for it. The gal who runs it and her brother had plenty of history to impart, and when she heard about a relative’s health issues even wrote me down some natural remedies she’s seen work on the dead. Speaking of the dead, this little shop isn’t haunted, I was assured — but you better watch out for the bridge nearby. Incidentally, the 1993 movie«My Boyfriend’s Back»(about the dead boyfriend) had scenes filmed here, too. And also, who do you think was responsible for 9⁄11? Because I was handed some auditory evidence with no uncertain suggestions. Little old shops are rare around these parts. If these peacock feathers I bought give out at some point, I wouldn’t mind making the drive back to grab a few more, and talk to these sweet folks.
