New ownership has really made some fantastic updates. Bright and fun sports bar atmosphere now. Burgers were great! Up and coming place to be!

We stopped for happy hour. I ordered a vodka and seltzer. The ice was half melted, the selzer was flat. A beer and the drink were $ 10. So much for happy hour. The fire pit is gone and most of the built-in furniture has been removed. The bar is huge and felt empty as it was a light crowd. I understand the place is under new ownership and I wish them the best and I didn’t try the food. Based on the drinks and bartender I think it was a pretty average experience.

Attended a wedding recently at 18 west– I must say I was pleasantly surprised! The filet mug on was fantastic– tender enough to use only a butter knife! Service was also very good. We will be visiting again soon

Bad bad bad! We were there 2 weeks ago for fish, the place was almost empty we know why! The fish fry was really bad, not like the old fish fry. The portions were small fish was not tasty, and the potato pancakes were soggy. This was our usual Friday place, found out new owerers took over. Won’t go back

We recently went up to the Milwaukee/East Troy area to escape Chicago for a long weekend. 18 West was recommended to us by a friend from The City. We decided to drive up for an early dinner on Saturday night and I’m glad we made the drive. I started off with a glass of wine from Portugal that was recommended by the bar tender. That glass quickly turned into a bottle, thankfully I wasn’t driving! It was delish! We had a leisurely dinner that started with a couple crocks of soup. I had the French onion soup and I absolutely loved when the buttery, cheesy baguette managed to stay crunchy after being submerged in broth. Yum! My dinner date had the chicken noodle which was tasty as well. For my entrée I had the special of the filet with jumbo beer battered shrimp that included garlic mash and veggies. The filet was cooked perfectly medium and the shrimp batter was so tasty I didn’t even need to use the cocktail sauce they served on the side. I would have preferred my shrimp grilled but I didn’t bother to ask so that was my bad. The garlic mash was creamy and they were not shy with the garlic which I appreciated, super flavorful without leaving you with a garlic taste for the rest of the night. The veggies were veggies. My dinner date has the bacon wrapped meatloaf with garlic mash. I tasted the meatloaf and it was moist but I am not meatloaf eater so I can’t really comment past that. My dinner date also tried a couple of their Mule cocktails and said they were good(extra points for serving your mules in a copper mug!). We were both stuffed and didn’t have room for sweets so I also can’t comment on that. We sat at the bar for our meal since it was about 6 o’clock when we arrived and there were a few people enjoying food and drinks. Some snowmobilers and a couple that was hiking a trail that runs behind the restaurant that was lit up by candle light. I can’t recall the name but I need to check that trail out! By the time we left, around 8ish, the place had a steady dinner crowd. Overall a tasty night in a place that was off the beaten path for us city folk. We’ll be back when we come back to the area!

very nice upscale looking place with a cozy seating area around a fireplace. good food, reasonable prices. couldnt figure out why there werent more people there until a bunch of younger men came in and started playing beanbag toss in the bar. the noise of beanbags bouncing off plywood boards from 30 feet made impossible to carry a conversation or enjoy what i thought would be a nicer dinner experience

My grandparents and I went here yesterday as they live close to the restaurant. None of us had been here since the new owner and I have to say we were all impressed. I ordered the farm burger with goat cheese, bacon and caramelized onions. I was really pleased that there was no shortage on any of those ingredient and it was delicious! Also, a great deal for only $ 9. My grandpa ordered the Reuben, and while he enjoyed it over all, did note that he wished there was more sauerkraut– if that’s your thing, order extra. He also said he liked the sweet potato fries. The coffee was a little cold though and if your coming for anything other than lunch or a burger, I’d be prepared for a hefty check. I’d be very happy to return if I am in the area again!

18 West is an old established restaurant that for some reason or another has renamed itself at least three times. My wife and I were there last night(Mother’s Day eve). We stopped after church for a pre-Mother’s Day meal. We both had the ribs with garlic mashed potatoes. The soup we chose was French onion. We got more than enough to eat the ribs were a bit over done but they were good. The potatoes were very good and the soup was exceptional. They could have served a veggie which would have rounded out the plate nicely. As I said we were more than happy with the meal but we thought they were a bit on the pricey side. The drinks were good and the waitress was friendly, also the owners seemed quite involved in making sure their guests were comfort.

Went in for fish fry Friday. Food was ok, but prices on the menu were overall expensive. Portions were a bit on the small side. I like to be full after dining out. The Bloody Mary tasted like i was drinking fish. Waitstaff was pleasant and atmosphere was nice. For me, food taste and value trump atmosphere.

Came in hungry. Went out full. Waitress – Lauren, was VERY attentive and helpful. She saw to all of our extra needs and requests promptly. The special for Sat. was prime rib; it was very good. The«Chef’s Potato Montréal»(roasted potato cubes garnished with Parmesan, salt, and seasonings) which came with it was OK, but personally, I’ll go back to a baked potato next time. Wife had Maryland crab cakes which she said were real crab and good. Not quite enough sauce on the crab for her taste, however. Our guest had Chicken piccata which she said was very good, and had plentiful sauce. Both ladies had the sweet potato fries, which they said were good. The bread which came with the meal was nice, and hot, but a little too crusty; it was hard to cut nice slices. We had the French onion soup; it was good but not outstanding. As a finish we split an order of Cherries Jubilee 3 ways – It was done nicely, at our table. I thought there weren’t lots of cherries, otherwise it was quite satisfying. Negatives: The A/C was too cold. The music was a bit loud. Positives: Even though the place was catering a large wedding party dinner, there was no stinting the service to the regular diners. All of the staff were friendly, helpful, and courteous. Bottom line: We will definitely go there again, and would not hesitate to take another out-of-town guest.

They’ve recently rebranded and are going by a new name, but they’re such a staple of that neighborhood that I think they’ll always be Saxe’s to everyone. Went for Sunday brunch and it was tasty. The spread isn’t huge, but there was plenty to choose from. There was an omelet station and that same chef kept fresh waffles on a nearby table. Also loved the dessert selection — lots of small, bite-sized sweets to finish off your meal. Too many places ignore this detail or have huge servings that are too much after an AYCE brunch. Owners came over to talk to us and check on our experience. Great, family-owned, small-town sort of place.

The Saxes work hard to bring a quality venue and fare to our little town. They have succeeded. The bar is well run. Service is attentive and the food on target. Nice place for a cocktail after work or a place to meet with friends for dinner.
