Yes, the Delavan Café did not score all that well on a recent Health Dept. inspection(76 out of 100). The good news is that the infractions had to do with labeling, keeping the back area in good repair, and, yes, keeping the floors and walls clean. It could feel a bit sticky in there… Even so, this is still the locals’ hangout, with a «common table» and all. The place is often packed for lunch. It was formerly a pizza parlor, but is now a typical café, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They may close early, though, so you might want to call ahead if you’re planning to drive in from outside of Delavan. The breakfast is respectable. The portions are generous. What should you try? They have a good, honest hamburger that they’ve worked hard on making even better. The chili is very good: be sure to try a bowl while you’re there. They have Mexican specials every so often(Julio, the cook/owner, is Hispanic): a burrito plate and a soft taco plate. Both are very good; so, too, the quesadilla in the appetizers part of the menu. The prices are unbeatable. If you’re in the area – especially around lunchtime – and don’t feel like eating at the fancier and somewhat more expensive Harvest Café across the street, try the Delavan Café.
