There’s pizza… and then there’s an experience. The place is small. Unassuming. You’d think«ok I read a Unilocal review I’ll give it a shot, but so far I’m not impressed.» That is until the pizza melts on your tongue like cream from a cow on Mt. Olympia. The truffle pizza with prosciutto is what I’m talking about… and you will be too. A good wine list and helpful staff bookends this journey. If you want cheese on bread there are plenty of good places in Delray. If you want to want to go home with a river of flavor tattooed on your tongue come here.

Best pizza in the area, hands down! My favorite though is the Melanzane alla Parmigiana, which is this incredible eggplant parmesan. It’s the best I’ve ever had — totally crave worthy. I also love the orange spicy oil — be sure to ask for it. The staff is made up of completely nice, genuine people.

Pizza made the traditional Italian way! My wife and I ate there last night and everything was really delicious! They make the mozzarella and burrata in house daily. We had the burrata app and shared the Regina pizza for main. Both were sensational. They even gave us a slice of flourless chocolate cake after finding out we were celebrating our anniversary. Two thumbs up!

This is one of the very few places I’ve been that has pizza made like the kind I had in Italy. The mozzarella is made fresh, and they have high quality ingredients imported to make a pizza crust that is pretty close to perfect. We had no trouble getting a table, and were quickly greeted by our waiter. He had an excellent menu presentation and explained the value of the pizza and food made here very well. We ordered a mozzarella and prosciutto appetizer that came out very quickly and was awesome. The ingredients, while simple, were delicious and definitely worth the price. We got the Pizza Romeo, which is part of their white pizza selection. Although an individual pizza, with an appetizer it was enough for two of us. It was piled with chunks of mozzarella and pancetta. With a drizzle of their house made spicy olive oils, I was in heaven. I wish this place was a little closer to home, so I could come in more often.

Let me first say that my husband and I consider ourselves pizza enthusiasts. We’ve sampled MANY pies throughout the United States(and been fortunate to sample a few in Italy as well) and until yesterday, had a hands down favorite in Greenwich Village. Well, last night, we had the good fortune to visit Scuola Vecchia on Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach! When we looked at the menu and noticed the«Keste» we just had to pull Sharon(the owner) over. You see, Keste is our place in the Village. We found out that the pizza world is small one and both she, and the people at Keste trained with Roberto Caporuscio, a world renowned pizza master. So that’s a little history. Now about the pizza… OHMYGOD! We ordered the Margherita to start and its EXCELLENT! Perfect combination of amazing sauce, fresh cheese and sensational crust(chewy, bubbly and with just the right amount of char). Then we got the Keste(which we found out means«the one»). It’s our favorite from our place in the Village and we thought«how could it possibly be as good?» Well, it was OUTSTANDING! If we closed our eyes and ate it we would have thought we were in NYC. SOOOOGOOD! Then, just to be sure, we ordered another Margherita(our record is 5 pies!) and our thoughts were confirmed! FANTASTIC! When we go up north(we only moved here about a year ago) to see family, we always carve out an afternoon to get to Keste. Well, I am happy to say that we don’t need to go to the Village to get our pizza fix. Scuola Vecchia(«Old School») is our new FAVORITE place! Sharon was so warm and friendly, even sitting with us a while and sharing her story, Shaun, her son and pizza maker as well, came by to welcome us and out waiter Anthony was friendly, attentive and wonderful. We already made our reservation for next Saturday night. Not sure we can wait that long!

CHEATEDONTHEBILL. We just came back from S.V. where we for their Happy Hour which is between 5 and 6pm, every day except Friday and Saturday. We sat down at 5:45 and ordered right away. We ordered 2 Margherita pizzas(happy hour price $ 6 each), 3 small glasses of wine(for $ 10 and $ 9 each), a panini for $ 10 and Angioletti with Nutella for $ 12. In fairness, the food was very good as usual. However when the bill arrived my father paid it without checking and I didn’t realize till we got in the car that it was for $ 78.44 instead of $ 65.75 it should have been with the tax. He also left a $ 15 tip because the service was good. The older Italian waiter with long hair, obviously charged us full price for the pizzas even though we were there during the Happy hour — twice as much as everyone else was paying. So much for our good mood for the evening. Shame!

Every time I visit my friend who lives in Delray I try different spots to eat. Coming from New York and being first generation Italian I was truly impressed with this spot. We ordered the Burrantina to start and both ordered a pizza. The Burrantina is a dish with fresh mozzarella, arugula and tomatoes drizzled with balsamic vinegar. The mozzarella was super fresh and very soft. The pizzas are pan size(4 slices) perfect for one person. I didn’t even finish it I had only 3 slices. I ordered the margherita. All ingredients seemed fresh and it was very tasty. The only negative was the sliced Italian bead. It was not what I am used to the texture was a bit strange. However I think it has to do with the water so I am not allowing that to effect this review. I would go back again!

Brought a group of out of town friends looking for homey italian food here, and it never disappoints. They use the best ingredients, make everything fresh, and the staff is all very attentive and interested in giving you a great experience — all at reasonable prices. My wife loves the pizza, as the crust is crispy and chewy. Love when Mom stops by to make sure everyone is happy with the food.

Had a great dinner here with the family. Got a few different pizzas and salads and eveything was perfect. Ingredients were fresh, service was great, atmosphere was relaxed. Only complaint is that we didnt have enough leftovers the next day –guess that means we’ll have to go back soon!

Scuola Vecchia in the opinion of our group is over rated and over priced. Once we got seated we were told a long list of ingredients, menu items that the Kitchen was out of. It also seemed to me that the wait staff were in a rush. The pizza was good but I enjoy a better Pie down the street at Luigi“s. Overall a very average experience.

Scuola Vecchia Pizza è Vino has my vote for the best pizzeria in all Florida. My fav is the Regina Margherita Neapolitan Pizza made with Imported buffalo mozzarella, cherry tomatoes„ extra virgin olive with fresh basil. The balance among crust, sauce, and cheese Without too much of neither allows your palate to taste all three components. The service is great, they make you feel like family. I love sitting outside watching Delray Beach people walk by, Gives you that NYC city feel which by the way if you’re in the city you must try Kested pizzeria in the village. The imported oven is a piece of art from Italy giving the pizza the perfect charcoal touch. If you appreciate quality ingredients and art then Scuola is the place. Buon appetito!

with 7 empty tables they could not accommodate my family’s party of four… because of reservations that were happening in an hour… this is not how restaurants use reservations.

Scuola Vecchia Pizzeria Located in Delray Beach, this place is pretty good for pizza, but I wouldn’t go crazy about the rest of the menu. It’s an italo-american type of menu more than real Italian, so it doesn’t get me too excited. However, the pizza is pretty good, and that seems to be the item they are focused on.

Uh Yum! My boyfriend and I went out tonight to try some Italian food. The restaurant we went to had actually closed permanently. Bummed we started walking back to the car and a random homeless guy told us we had to try this restaurant. So we did. Wow… What a find! We had calamari, pizza, and wine. I cannot say enough how amazing everything was. They actually serves the calamari with flash fried arugula which happens to be very tasty. Service was excellent and the owner came over and introduced herself. We told her about the guy who referred us to her and she said they often feed the homeless which really was amazing. Not only was the food spectacular but they were helping the community as well. Will be going back very soon! Keep up the great work!!! XOXOXO

From Chicago and growing up Sicilian I am always weary of getting pizza in other states. No issue here! What a find! Authentic real deal! Just down the street from our hotel and the perfect sized personal pizzas for my wife and 2 boys. Took a picture of my Funghi and prosciutto pizza and one piece was missing. I couldn’t wait! For dessert a Nutella Pizza. I would have eaten it for breakfast! Service was polite and the place is cozy but not loud at all. The waitress even cut up my 8 year olds pizza nicely for easier eating without asking. Would definitely come here again if we trek back to DelRay Beach.

Scuola Vecchia means«Old School» in Italian, and that is the way that they make pizza. This is some of the best gourmet, Southern Italian(not Italian American) style pizza that I’ve ever had. The dough and the house made cheese and the menu that sports more Italian fare like a white pizza with pistachio and sausage, prosciutto and sliced figs, and my favorite, the Keste, with buffalo mozzarella prosciutto ad arugula. Hands down the best! Super fresh ingredients. Killer marinara. Why anyone would eat at Mellow Mushroom or one of the burned pizza places passing themselves off as «coal oven» is beyond me. The service was wonderful, and the small space was nicely decorated and tasteful. In all, it was il miglorie(the best)! Don’t come on Tuesdays. They’re closed. They don’t do lunches either during the week.

I’ve lived in Delray for 5 years and have long had a void in my life for truly great pizza options that are close by. Lets be honest with ourselves, Anthony’s Coal Fire is not great pizza. Yes, it’s good pizza and the wings and ribs definitely make up for what’s lacking in their pies, but it will never be great pizza. Don’t get me started on Mellow Mushroom. We go there for the beer. Some would argue Nick’s New Haven Pizza qualifies as great, although I’m personally not a fan. In terms of great pizza I’ve had in South Florida, Pizzeria Oceano is on my list for sure and so is Lucali. And after 3 visits to Scuola Vecchia I feel strongly enough to add them to my short list of great, local pizza places. And it’s in Delray. a stones throw from my house! Tip: Don’t fuss up your pizza with too many toppings. I made this mistake on my first visit. Instead, opt for the simpler options that lend themselves well to Neapolitan style pizza like the classic Margherita with hot soppressata, Keste’ and on my last visit sausage and broccoli rabe. Finally, ask for fresh basil on the side and add just before eating. It really makes a huge difference.

I heard so much about Scuola Vecchia being nationally ranked and one of the best pizzerias in the tri county area that I didn’t know what to expect. Scuola delivered in a big way. The service was first class and the food was fantastic. We started with the Tagliere Misto platter and then we had the Regina Margherita pizza and a calzone. All were incredibly fresh using the best ingredients. I can wait to go back again.

Fantastic! I had read about this restaurant being in the top 100 places with the best pizza in the US and apparently the ONLY restaurant in the state of Florida to have made it to the list. Their hours had made it difficult for us to go and try a slice as we’re not morning people and our sense of lunchtime is at 3pm which is right when they close up to switch around for dinner service at 5pm. Argh!!! Alas, we were finally able to try them on Saturday night during a street festival. The restaurant was full of seated people which was a sure sign that the Top 100 List does not lie. We were seated by a cheerful waitress. The menu was full of amazing options that we had a hard time figuring out what we would try. Since I knew about their pizza, I made it a priority that we must try the pizza for this first visit. There are three options of pizza types– white, red, and build your own. We went to look at the red pizzas and of course, this is a purely Italian restaurant that they’re not going to have the typical American pepperoni or meatlovers kind of pizza. So we decided to go with the Capricciosa pizza which is of mozzarella, Italian ham, mushrooms, and artichokes. We were not so sure about the artichokes being served on the pizza, but we love artichokes anyway. So why not?! It arrived after maybe 15 minutes. It looked beautiful! The thin crust was perfectly brick oven toasted, the red sauce was lightly spread throughout. The mozzarella was very Italian, not as salty as the typical American Kraft mozzarella cheese. The ham, mushrooms, and artichokes were a phenomenal combination. My husband, being from New York and having lived next to an Italian family, was entirely impressed by this pizza and said it is the best pizza we’ve found here in Palm Beach County so far. We will definitely be repeat customers and hope to try the other menu items… hopefully lasagna…
