I’ve been on the hunt for some good quality meat and remembered a little farm I used to visit way back in the day. I made the 90 min trip to Denison on like freakin’ Tornado Day in Texas, driving around a downed tree in the middle of the farm road while trying to not get my brother’s car stuck in the mud. Following the signs, we finally made it to the shop. Which was closed… There was a sign on the door with a number and before I could push«talk» on my cell, a man appears from the house next door and just casually walks past me and opens the door to the shop. «How can I help you?» The prices for the meat were all there, making it easy and I quickly gave the man my order. They were out of bacon, which I remember tasting amazing, but they had my pork, whole chicken and ground beef so I was happy. Looking around in the shop, I quickly realized that it was most likely cash only. The cash register looked like it was missing some buttons and was probably around way before Roosevelt was in office and I felt incredibly stupid for not even thinking about bringing cash with me. Just when I was about to slap myself with the wrapped up whole chicken in front of me, the man says, «Nah, don’t worry about it. You can pay me later. Or just send me a check when you get home,» and then proceeds to write the address on the small piece of receipt he gave me. I almost started laughing. You definitely won’t find that level of trust anywhere else. For a pound of ground beef, pound of pork cutlets and 3.5 pound chicken, the total came out to 27 bucks. Don’t worry everyone, I’m writing the check right now.(Put it on my meat tab!)

This is my other favorite meat place at the Coppell Farmer’s Market. They have a wide assortment of poultry, beef, and pork products. All of their meat is locally grown and grass fed. I love to get my bacon, pot roasts, Italian sausage, and ground beef from here. They also have the BEST hot breakfast sausage(pork) on EARTH! I could eat that stuff every day it is so good! If you want eggs from Dominion, you have to order them in advance. They always run out of eggs at the farmers market. I have found their eggs to be outstanding, but I’m a slacker and forget to pre-order when the FM is open. I usually get my eggs from Rehoboth, and have always been pleased. Taylor Cooper is the salesman for Dominion farms. He is a student of life and fascinating to talk with. He will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about the farm, slaughter methods, and raising meat. He also inquires about recipes and is always wanting to find new ways to cook meat. If you want specific items, it is always best to pre-order them(meat or eggs). Dominion runs a smaller stall at the farmers market than the other meat vendor, and carries different items from week to week. They are always accommodating if you want something special though. Dominion does winter drops at the Coppell Farmers Market once a month for pre-ordered meat and eggs. I am so appreciative of this service as I face farmers market withdrawal during these winter months!
