Nelson’s Wee Bake

Went to Olar, SC to run a 5K and what better way to end a run than to eat baked goods, LOL! This place was fantastic! I had the cheese Danish and the mini bearclaw! It was devine! I will definitely be returning to Denmark to visit this place. I think it’s only open Thursday through Sunday but it is worth the detour stop when traveling!

Homemade done right. Always good. Always fresh

In Denmark for work, we had a short wait between jobs. Nelson’s Wee Bakery is right on the highway we take thru Denmark, and we’ve driven by like, 1,000 times. It’s small and humble, and it’s been open every time we drove by for 2 years so it was finally time to drop in. The wonderful smell was obvious as soon as we stepped out of the truck. We were hoping that a bakery would have sandwiches and we were thrilled they did. They have BBQ pulled pork and Chicken salad on freshly baked white bread, wheat bread or buns. We shared a pulled pork sandwich on a bun, and we couldn’t resist getting a cupcake and a bag of day-​old glazed donut holes. With the chips and soda we had in the truck it was a great meal (they sell chips and soda so you don’t have to bring your own). Our food was ready almost before we had decided which sweets we wanted. There’s no seating so we made our way back to the truck and pulled over to a shady spot to eat. The pork was moist and delicious and good, with a mild vinegar-​mustard sauce. It’s not «gourmet» and there’s no bark but it is a really great sandwich (especially for $ 3.00!). The freshly made bun was incredible! We happily chowed it down and dug into the cupcake. It was chocolate with white frosting, nicely dense, moist, and not too sweet. It was so good we had to dig into the donut holes as we went down the road. We ate 3 quickly and realized we needed milk, which we got from the gas station down the road. We didn’t plan on eating all the donut holes — we really don’t eat a lot — but we ate them all. If those are stale, we can’t wait to get some fresh ones. We also plan on buying a loaf of bread next time, and they have rolls, cake and brownies too. Believe me, we will NEVER just drive by again.
