I can make a lop eared bunny out of a gym sock. Just sayin.’ Jo-Ann’s is worth dropping in once a month or so. I get great fabric there for future outfits. Always wait for their 50% off coupons, which come out every few weeks. Sometimes there is a coupon for another 15% off your entire purchase. It makes high end fabric($ 30-$ 60 per yard) very accessible. The selection pulls you in. Fleece was on sale for $ 5/yd one trip and I made a few pullover hoodies with an easy to sew pattern even though I’d never thought of working with fleece or for that matter making a hoodie. Not having what you need to get started on a project is a total buzz kill. Unless I’m looking for a really unusual notion I find it here. Be ready for a monster line for the really big sales, but it’s worth it.

I just went here last night(Christmas eve) and this is my 1st time at this store. Everyone was really friendly and helpful. I’m new to sewing and they were super helpful with everything I needed. They’re patterns are a little more expensive than Walmart but they have a huge fan selection of fabric. They didn’t have everything I needed, though. I needed a plastic buckle, a large and medium sized magnetic snap and they didn’t have any of those. But other than that everything was great.

Little Denton Jo-Ann’s. This tiny shop has been here for so long I just want to pat it on the head and give it a cookie. They sell your basic sewing goods and patterns, and as a design student I’ve made many a hasty trip here to grab some buttons or boning before they close. I’m surprised the company hasn’t opened a bigger store, like the one in Lewisville, here in Denton. We have two universities in town that both have fashion design programs, so I can personally assure them that it would be worth their time. They don’t sell much fabric outside of the quilter’s cotton prints and polyester/rayon«silky» blends. Please, please do not waste your money on anything that claims to be «silk» or «wool» on the label. These are made with what looks, and feels, like the lowest grade material and can cost 4x as much an Armani silk or Calvin Klein wool at Golden D’Or in Dallas. No, it’s not the fabrics that make me appreciate Jo-Ann’s. It’s the fact that it’s right around the corner from me, and when I’m out of fusing or whatever(like I am now) I can make a quick trip and be back to my sewing machine in 15 minutes.
