Pollo Tropical

We finally ate here after driving by about a million times. I would consider it above average fast food. I had the Calypso Beef and my husband had the Mojo Pork. Both were very good. The star of the show was the balsamic tomatoes. Great flavor! We also got some of the cheese empanadas to try out. Great batter! My husband enjoyed the rice and beans, but said the Mac and Cheese was no good. Duh! Way would you even get Mac and Cheese? Will come again, but nothing out of this world.

Why two stars? Because I like Pollo Tropical’s food. But this location’s service has gone downhill fast… It’s unfortunate. I realize we got there at 9:40pm and they close at 10:00pm, but we got our food to go and I still felt like we were getting in their way. I was not given the chance to order a drink nor was I asked if my friend and I were on separate checks. They had the condiments closed up so those were unavailable. And then when we got home my sides were separated into each order giving each of us one side (we both ordered two sides) and my friend didn’t get any side that he ordered. I don’t complain but this was the worst service. I’m very disappointed.

Gone bad. 10pm (close at 11) and stated 25 minute wait for chicken skewer, had already turned off fryer for plantains. Went through about 8 things before found something i COULD actually order. Disappointed and probably wont be back.

Best chicken in Denton hands down. You gotta try the pineapple rum sauce it’s seriously the best sauce ever. Staff is friendly and this is our favorite place to eat in Denton.

I love eating here! I always get the drumstick and thigh kid’s meal and they hook you up with a lot of food, drink, and dessert for 4.99. Where else do you get healthy food that cheap?!?

Gave this place a chance. The sauce bars were a mess. Needs to be cleaned up along with the rest of the floor and tables. Place wasn’t that busy. Food was mediocre. Almost tasteless. I see no reason go back.

Ill fate led me through the doors of Pollo Tropical. I order the «Tropichop» which is basically a Chipotle bowl. The rice was overcooked by about 10 mins. It was soggy with the consistency of porridge. This «rice» was heaped on top of too few fragile spring greens which quickly forced them to decompose rapidly under the damp heat and pressure. The over salted chicken was perfectly cut into 1×1 inch squares showing an immaculately consistent shade of white throughout the meat. Chemical bath much?

Went to this place because I had a good experience at the location in frisco, this location however was not the same. I ordered a 3 meat combo and only received the chicken. The sides tasted old and microwaved like they had been packed up in their to go containers hours before I had come to order them. The young dude at the window was nice but couldn’t list the sauces to me, and they were not in the drive through menu so he ended just throwing 4 of some sort of ranch sauce and 2 or some other sauce in. After getting home and realizing what happened I called this location and it rang and rang for about 5 minutes before I gave up. I will not be going back to Pollo Tropical at all ever. And hope to get my money back if I can somehow get a hold of anyone.

Denton took away Taco Cabana, and now I am left with this culturally confused restaurant which runs out of ingredients in the evening.
The concept is interesting and has potential, but the service falls short, or at least at night. By 10pm, they were out of brown rice, nearly out of yellow rice, chicken, red beans, and other ingredients. When I asked about it, I was simply told that «people don’t usually eat this late.»
First off, way to go with the customer service. Secondly, I beg to differ. You’re located in a college town and it’s only 10pm. I would’ve left at this point, but I hadn’t eaten all day and I wanted to take advantage of their salsa bar.
Not only did they get my order wrong (they mixed up our order and gave my boyfriend the yellow rice and black beans that I ordered), but when I asked about it, she simply repeated «we are out of yellow rice.»
The stars I gave are for the salsa island, in which the red salsa was pretty decent, and the poyo sauce added some needed flavor to my «Tropichop.»
Overall, I don’t think I’ll be coming back unless it’s late and I’m desperate to avoid greasy fast food.
I would like Taco Cabana back, please.

It’s far too often that we have another burger or taco joint come in and forget that their is great, but slightly different food around the corner. This is one of those places that fits this and i think they nailed it.
For a fast food sit down place, it seems to be clean and well kept. The staff is friendly and i’ve had nothing but fast service. The menu has a wide selection of not only meats, but sides as well. The main attraction to this place is the sauce bar. I just found out that some people are not fans of sauces, wtf is that about!!! Even if you’re not a fan of sauces they have a great selection that i’m sure you could find one you like.
Overall this place is really great and takes away from the everyday normal. Plus i never leave there feeling like i need to shame myself for eating unhealthy.
Tip: the beans and rice count as one side!

Ordered the Calypso Beef which I love. When my order came to the table, I received the pork. Took it up front and said this is not right, they looked at my receipt and said sorry and gave me the calypso beef. The restaurant was disgusting even at 2pm when I visited. Most of the tables still had plates on them and food particles on the table as they were not wiped off. The sauce bar was not clean and not full. There was a bunch of horse play and screaming in the back. Not sure what that was about. Food was still good but facility was way below my standards. Hence the 2 star rating.

I really really want to love this place. I’ve tried it once before and I didn’t really feel good later. Although it did taste really good! So I tried it yesterday to give it another shot and it was really good except the rice was not cooked correctly and it was hard. That was a little bit frustrating. But I have only tried the tropichop lite which is with less calories but then I also add a side of the garlic cilantro dressing and man that Sauce is amazing. Despite these two previous experience id say give it a shot. It’s pretty tasty!

First time here. Good selection, good prices.
Fella at the counter explained everything well, very helpful.
I like their choices of sauces, tried four different ones. Really liked three, mixed them in.
I got a small tropichop meal with pulled pork, peppers, onion, corn, brown rice, and black beans.
I thought it was good.
Music was loud. Didn’t go here to listen to loud mellow 70’s music. Already lived through all those songs.

Chicken had a good flavor, BUT my main problem was the staff working the night I went. The cashier taking our order was talking on her cell phone as I was trying to order.
As I was waiting for my food, the entire staff working behind the counter and kitchen were bad mouthing the manager in front of everyone. Said manager finally made an appearance and I guess had enough of his employees and just walked out. Ridiculous. All of the staff except the manager appeared to be fresh out of high school age, and lacking any «life experiences «. Will not be going back.

Above average and as good as the ones in Florida
… It’s more than a chicken restaurant its tropical, Caribbean cuisine… really man, this is great food, and good atmosphere

Upon second visit here find blocked internet pages and also realize chicken not as good as the chicken in Florida, today was greasy and undercooked, hard buns, food no big deal, just another corporate franchise … Oh well

Despite the name, this place actually has some decent vegetarian options. Sucks that the brown rice is cooked with chicken and the red beans are cooked with pork, but they do have a decent number of sides that are cheap and pretty tasty for when you are in a hurry. The plantains and yucca are pretty legit.

Been there, done that, no reason to go back.
Slow service, mediocre and underseasoned food. Not much happening on the plate.
Pollo Tropical is trying to not be a good restaurant, and they’ve reached their modest goal.

Forgive me Chipotle, for I have sinned.
I was so excited to try this place, but found it to be overpriced and not even really edible.
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again.
** Vegetarians still have taste buds. Do not offer a vegetarian menu item just for the sake of it**
I’m honestly so disappointed that I don’t have the energy to get into how bad it was.
Cliffnotes: their «tropichop» has WAY too many onions – and I like onions! Poorly seasoned, tastes like plain canned corn, overcooked rice and beans, chopped raw tomatoes (why?) and peppers. I could have made this at home. But I wouldn’t have. Because it doesn’t taste good. It’s also way overpriced for what you get. Go down the road to Chipotle or Rosa’s.

I gave 5 stars for 3 reasons:
1. Good customer service both times I’ve gone.
2. Really affordable food (there are coupons available online)
3. Tasty food! I’ve gotten the Tropichop twice now, never disappoints, love the sauce bar to add diff flavors to my dish.
Side note: it’s good for families, has a drive thru but doesn’t have the feel of a «fast food» place even though they are pretty quick, they serve beer, if your trying to eat healthier it can be done here (grilled chicken etc).
